I’ve come to the decision that I’ll just use this blog to share when I’ve posted a new fic. I’ve been minimizing the amount of time I spend on tumblr now because of how I feel about their new policies and such.

That said, I’ve posted two more fics in this series in the time that I was away.

Upstream Theory

~6k words. Terry-centric fic, two chapters. In which Terry travels out of Tsubakura City to find his fortune and his name.

Notes:

Trans boy Terry! This is something I’ve thought about for a long time and wanted to handle properly with this fic. Terry has a...particular history with the way his gender has been treated by the western fandom, and having grown up with that and coming to new opinions on it, I wanted to do right by his character.

Alan and Karen are from the GBA game. I love the characters in the game and I wanted to more directly involve them with characters that aren’t just Yamato.

Kit is a Cat person OC who I’ve had for a long time, though they were much older originally.

This is the first time where I let my more original world building slip into the story, as seen in the garden scene. Only one of the characters spoken about is an OC though. I think it’s fairly obvious who the other is.

I don’t think inserting prejudice into a fantasy setting that didn’t explicitly rely on it for a narrative is a good move, so there’s none of that here.

Armada is really fun to write when you remember he’s a huge memer in the anime.

~2k words. Bull-centric fic, oneshot. Bull and Gray’s original first meeting several months before Cobalt Blade’s debut, from Bull’s POV (all three of them).

This was another WIP just sitting there for ages tbh

POV pronouns swapping is one of my favorite little tricks.

Not unlike most passes at Bull’s backstory, he’s had a hard life in this one, but I’ve tried to keep it fairly vague and it involves a sentient robot.

What is Cubase Elements?

Cubase Elements is a step up from the Cubase AI which can be bought outright or can be upgraded to if you already have the Cubase AI or Cubase LE. It runs on the award-winning 32-bit floating point and it has a maximum of 48 audio tracks and 64 MIDI tracks, and 24 instrument tracks with full automatic delay compensation and flexible routing, which is more than enough for what you’re planning to do.

Difference between Cubase AI and Elements

Version

– Cubase is one of the most powerful music creation software packages in the world and one of the best digital audio workstations available for mixing video soundtracks and surround sound projects. AI is a streamlined version of the Cubase Pro which gets bundled with Steinberg stroke Yamaha products. It provides all the basic tools for recording, editing, and mixing for all genres. Cubase Elements, on the other hand, is a stripped-down version available with the basic audio editing toolset which you can either buy outright or upgrade to if you have Cubase LE or Cubase AI.

Audio/MIDI/Instrument Count

– Cubase Elements runs on the award-winning 32-bit floating point meaning it can record up to 32 bit 192 kHz whereas Cubase AI can record only in 24-bit quality up to 192 kHz. Talking about audio track count, Cubase AI has a maximum of 32 audio tracks whereas Cubase Elements has a maximum of 48 audio tracks. In addition, Cubase AI supports up to a maximum of 48 MIDI tracks whereas Elements supports up to 64 MIDI tracks. Instrument track count is 16 in Cubase AI and 24 in Elements.

Arranger Track

– One of the key features of the Cubase Elements is the ‘Arranger Track’ function which allows you to play different sections of your musical arrangements in any order you want without moving anything, even in live performances. There can be only one Arranger track in each Cubase project and it is managed in the Project window. This way, you do not have to move, copy and paste events in the Project window. On the contrary, there is no Arranger track function in Cubase AI.

Instruments and Inserts

– Cubase AI offers outstanding composition tools and features some powerful Steinberg VST instruments comprising the Cubase AI are HALion Sonic SE, a versatile sound production tool and Groove Agent SE, a wonderful tool for creating amazing beats. Cubase Elements, on the other hand, features three VST instruments comprising the HALion Sonic SE, Groove Agent SE, and the Prologue Synthesizer to help create powerful bass sounds. Coming to the maximum number of inserts you can have on an audio channel; Cubase AI has full inserts while Cubase Elements allows you to have eight inserts per audio channel.

Other Features

– You can have eight group channels and four FX channels with Cubase AI but Cubase Elements gives you 16 group channels and 8 effects channels to work with. Cubase Elements also allows you to add dither to your audio signal to minimize the effect of quantization errors in order to trade a little bit of low-level noise. Plus, Elements is equipped with the ‘Hermode Tuning’ system to help your tunes you play dynamically richer, and the ‘Remote Control Editor’ which gives you a convenient way to control your VST plug-ins from an external control surface. This is just a little snippet I wrote a while ago that currently doesn’t have a place in any fic since I’m planning to rewrite where I first put it in. It’s set the morning after Marda-B’s defeat and calls back to frostbite.

So Terry prepared breakfast and then he sat down and ate with the others who had stayed the night at the Cat Cafe. Terry ate in silence, only half listening to the occasional background chatter from the others.

That is, until Wen suddenly leapt to his feet and shouted, "What the fuck do you mean 'you spent the night with him'?"

Terry found himself looking up to see Wen staring in shock at Gray, who was sitting unusually close to Enjyu.

"It means 'I spent the night with him'," said Gray, crossing his arms and leaning back. Enjyu smirked and placed an arm around him.

"Jealous?" asked Enjyu.

"Like hell I'll ever be!" spat Wen and as Li started trying to calm him, he added, "Gray, do yourself a favor and get the fuck away from him while you still can."

Bull, who must have been paying only half-attention to the conversation, chose this moment to inform Wen, "Enjyu's one of the good guys now."

Terry bit his lip as Wen turned in his spot to glare at Bull. The apprentice mechanic was completely oblivious of course, having returned his attention to his food, a large plate of sausages. Of course, Bull in his normal state was unaware of how complicated relations between the former Shadow Alliance members were.

"Even if Enjyu's one of the good guys now, he's never gonna be one of us," hissed Wen.

Terry swore that the sheer weight of the silence that reigned the room after that could have crushed them all a hundred times over.

Li broke the silence.

"Sit down, brother," he said.

Wen turned on him, looking like he was about to argue, then he seemed to think better of it.

"I'm going for a walk," he announced.

Here we go, folks! Enjyu’s first entry in the series at a whopping 19k+ words. This one’s a big fic with a lot going on, so here’s some notes:

Once again Gray takes a spotlight in someone’s else fic, but there’s a good reason this time, I swear!

Trans man Ababa

The brief scene with Armada at the start was mostly meant to be an introduction to this version of Enjyu in an environment readers should be familiar with—ruining Armada’s day.

Enjyu’s motorbike is from the manga

There are four OCs in this fic, and I hope they were enjoyable.

Similarly, there are several major plotlines going on, and a lot more minor ones interwoven into the “between” sections. 

Since the story takes place over three years, and then a fourth year passes, Enjyu is 17 in the final scene.

This also means puberty was happening throughout the fic, and Enjyu was the first to get a growth spurt that stuck. He’s quite proud of being the tallest kid around.

When I think about it, this fic kind of makes Gray a bad person, because wind at his back showed how little he thought of Wen after all the scenes they share together here happened...teen drama huzzah

Speaking of, because the events of this fic had not been fully planned yet when I wrote wind at his back and frostbite, I had to write around some of the things already there. Hopefully I managed to do this naturally without any glaring plot holes

That said, the structure of the story taking place over three years came about because frostbite said Gray only really left for Cobalt Blade three years after he arrived

Fics from this point on will have a more solid foundation and continuity

Arsen and Jupiter are meant to be opposites in the way their scenes play out and eventually conclude.

If this anime can get away with saying Castillo is from Luchatoon, I can get away with naming a town Heltoon and giving it the nickname Hell

I may have wanted Arsen and Nara to be scary as Shadow Alliance elites, but Ababa will always pull through as top Cat

I know nothing about wine except what I learned from the game Last Word, so the Petro Jade is a reference to it!

This fic is where I’ve truly, truly solidified my personal worldbuilding, particularly when it comes to the Legend Stones and the Shadow Alliance.

The Legend Stones from the manga being involved has always been planned for this series, and I seeded some of the ideas for them in Upstream Theory, but this is the first time they’ve actually appeared. 

There are only six Legend Stones in the manga, but the final one was never named, so I can do whatever I want with it and make more Legend Stones!

Gray going full SA might seem out of nowhere, but remember in his final battle he mentioned being exactly that until Yamato changed him

See if you can spot the one (1) callback to amygdaloidal!

I wanted to do Liena justice, and there was no way I was going to have her sit around and do nothing for three whole years

I will be better prepared to write Goldo’s dialogue in the future

Arsen, Nara, and Amy (the girl in Jupiter’s shop) all began life as Battle B-daman OCs before going to their own original world. Now they’ve been imported back in, new and improved.

I actually had no idea Ludo existed when I came up with Jupiter.

Arsen’s B-daman is named Boreas

Jupiter’s B-daman is named Eminent Flare.

There’s a lot of loose ends in this fic actually...I plan to address them all in the future!

Recent Completed B-daman Fics

These fics aren’t Elementsverse, but I figure I should share them somewhere!

Walking Before Running → Enjyu/Wen, bilingual characters. Wen is nudging Enjyu toward a dangerous edge.

The Disciples of Marda-B Arc 1: You Have But Slumbered Here → Enjyu/Yamato, dreamworld/mindscrew. Three years after Marda-B, Enjyu and Yamato go on a little trip but things go awry when they arrive in Meowtra Temple.

Dark Nights, Vega City → Magic Powers/No B-Daman AU, darkfic. The Fireblade comes to Vega City to retrieve the Thunderking.

Flowers Bloom Until They Rot → Marda-B/Ababa pre-canon, gets really dark. Ababa once danced in the meadows of his hometown with his magic, but then the tall and handsome stranger called Marda-B came and took him away.

Founders of the Shadow Alliance in my Battle B-daman fic series @elementsverse

Ababa is top cat, naturally, but the others are as follows:

Arsen, top left human, a B-daplaying doctor disgraced for testing poisons on his patients. He was behind a number of the Shadow Alliance’s operations as an elite member, before retiring to be the in-house doctor.

Nara, top right bird, a career B-daplayer turned B-damaster. Though she holds this title formally, she disappeared from the public eye. In truth, she runs an elite training camp for the Shadow Alliance in a distant town in the northern reaches of the B-daworld.

Borgnine, middle robot, a robot with a mysterious past who joined up with Ababa. He ran an orphanage for the Shadow Alliance, recruiting children and briefly training them before sending the best to Nara. He defected several years ago, taking with him his latest batch of kids.

Silver, bottom right human, another career B-daplayer, recruited by Ababa at a young age and who carried out dirty work for him. She went missing during a mission.

Rada, bottom left cat, a ferocious B-daplayer who seems to know everything about the Shadow Alliance. She went missing together with Silver.

They’ll all be appearing one way or another in my series.

This is not part of the Elementsverse, but a standalone chaptered fic! I’ll be working on it for a while before tackling my next major fic.

This definitely will might still be angsty but it’ll also be a lot more light-hearted than the usual fare in my series, featuring an established relationship Enjyu/Yamato going to Meowtra Temple and an AU where Enjyu still has blue hair.

Finally...here’s the next fic in this series! It happens immediately after the wind at his back and is from Wen’s POV. Enjyu is awful in this one, so take note of the warnings before reading!

Some notes:

Wen and Li are of a fairly high rank in the Shadow Alliance and Ababa does treat them well and regards them as having potential to move up, but they are ultimately still rank and file grunts at the moment. The brothers are higher rank than characters like Battle Crow, but Enjyu and Gray are higher ranked than them.

Enjyu’s actions toward Wen in this fic are due to not knowing any other way to express his interest in Wen. This does not excuse or justify any of it all. His character is honestly one of the more complex ones and will be explored in a later fic.

Wen is, like Gray toward Liena, protective of Li. This blinds him to the fact that Li can take care of himself, and is very good at it too. Wen is a lot more dependent on Li than the other way around. This is kinda true in canon too (I think), but I wanted to emphasize that it was always there even as early as their Shadow Alliance days.

Gray only really shows up at the start of the fic but he’s also kinda everywhere in the fic.

Hi Battle B-daman fans! I don’t know if any of you are familiar with my fanfics, but sometime ago I wrote Fear of the Dark. After that, I wrote the wind at his back. These two are the beginnings of a pretty big series called the Elementsverse that I have planned out. This series will essentially retell the anime’s first season with an aged up cast and plenty of explorations of ships.

I decided to make this blog so that I could have a sort of general home base for the series. I’m planning on posting any art I do, worldbuilding notes, headcanons--extra things you won’t find in the fics, basically. You can also send in questions for the characters as a whole or individually (though I won’t answer if something is spoilery, oho).

Right now the next fic is frostbite. It’ll cover how Wen deals with Gray leaving (as seen at the end of the wind at his back), and how Enjyu decides to show off his opportunistic side. It’s around 80% done, so watch this space!

Blaise is scared that one day Terran might convince Caspian to destroy him. Or that Terran would take Caspian away. But one of his many other fears that involve Terran is that he really will trap him in the earth where he can't get out or get to his core. After all he never is sure how far he can push his luck.

I felt them and i felt the presence of another volcano. It is pleasing to me and I think that it has a good view from my house.
