Another day, another sims session.

They're as toxic as ever. It's clear that Adonis does care about Baddur, and Baddur cares about him, I think, but she's just doesn't know what healthy love looks like.

I think that imaginary friends are kind of like guardian angels. Since they weren't protected in their first lives, they were sent to protect others. Likewise, the kids help them gain what they lack.

Adonis is not into Baddur, and I'm not sure Baddur is into him. We'll see once she turns into a human, which looks like it'll happen tomorrow, thanks to his genius sister Callie. It definitely feels like it's every kind of love mixed in one.

You know who he does like, though?

Kelley Crumplebottom. They're actually childhood acquaintances. He invited her over once and never again because she was very rude. She's changed now, but even then, that didn't give him a right to be so mean to her.

They're now going steady. I think Adonis still thinks she's stupid, but only because he doesn't know her very well. I mean, does he know that his girlfriend is a witch?

No, he doesn't.

He also doesn't know that she's a genius. He DOES want to get to know her better. Y'all, they might actually be high school sweethearts. They're just 14-15, though so we can't know for sure.

“The adventures of Mintha, or Mint, can immediately be seen to have a connection with the myth of Adonis by virtue of the role Persephone plays in both stories. We have seen Persephone, seduced by Adonis, become his passionate mistress. In the story of Mintha, by contrast, Demeter’s daughter appears as a legitimate wife thwarting the ambitions of a concubine. According to the myth[1] the nymph Mintha used to live in the underworld kingdom of Hades who was her lover. When the king of the underworld brought home Persephone, to make her his lawful wife, his abandoned mistress uttered terrible cries and threats which provoked the anger either of Demeter or of Persephone herself. Mint declared that she was more beautiful than her rival and that she would win back her lover and chase Persephone from the palace of Hades.[2] Mintha had no time to put her threats into action. According to one version. Persephone tore her limb from limb (diespdraxen), while Hades granted that she should become a fragrant plant called minthé or héduiosmos, ‘the sweet-smelling’, that is should be transformed into ‘garden mint’.[3] In another version it is an enraged Demeter who tramples her underfoot, reducing her to dust. And Mintha rises again from the earth in the guise of ‘the insignificant grass’ which henceforth bears her name.[4] There seems to be yet a third version of the misfortunes of Mint: one day a mourning Demeter noticed the wild mint plant and was filled with hatred for it. She condemned it to sterility, no longer to bear any fruit.[5]

The evidence for this mythical relationships between Mintha, Hades and Demeter is incomplete and fragmentary but it is corroborated by certain religious links suggested by topographical features of South Eastern Elis: in Triphylia there is a Mount Mintha, named after mint, on which is situated one of the extremely rare ‘émenos to Hades, and this is flanked by a wood consecrated to Demeter. [6] ...

Just as Adonis’ seductive powers refer back to his vegetable status as the fruit of the myrrh tree, Mintha’s story only becomes meaningful when it is placed in the ethnographical context of the plant whose name she bears. Mintha, the concubine and mistress of Hades, lets it be known that she has the means to win her former lover back and separate him from his new wife. And in doing so she is, no doubt, alluding to the procedures of love magic covered by the Greek idea of the iunx (whose connection with Mintha we shall later be demonstrating).[7] But the seductive powers of mint lie first and foremost in the pleasant smell of the plant which ‘sweetens the breath’. Peppermint, which is an aromatic species of the Labies family[8], has an ambiguous status in ancient botany. Because it is a highly appreciated condiment which brings out the flavour of many foods[9], mint is considered as one of the spices. Dioscorides[10] notes that, being of a ‘heating’ and exciting nature, it incites men to the pleasures of love. But this aphrodisiac also serves to procure abortions. Mint is believed to make women sterile; if applied before sexual intercourse it prevents women from conceiving, discouraging generation by preventing the sperm from coagulating.[11] While it excites sexual desire, mint prevents that desire from being productive. When taken in larger quantities it is believed to melt the sperm and cause such serious losses of semen that an erection is made impossible and the body is weakened.[12]

These different properties of mint suffice to explain why this aromatic plant is sometimes seen as a chthonic species, a plant of the underworld, connected with death. ‘Do not eat mint’ is one of the prohibitions in the Treatise on the sacred disease just as is that against wearing a black cloak.[13] Similarly, when the author of the Aristotelian Problemata comes across the proverb, ‘Neither eat nor grow mint during wartime’[14] he suggests that this plant has a destructive effect on seminal secretion and that it is opposed to courage and virility. Mint cools the body; it is simply one more raw herb amongst the other ‘cold and wet’ plants. It seems likely that it is in this semantic context that we should understand the links established by Greek lexicographers between the name of the plant mintha and the word minthos which is its synonym[15] but which also denotes goat’s dung[16], human excrement[17] and other equally foul-smelling substances. [18]

Since it oscillates between the spices and the cold, wet grasses, the botanical status of mint corresponds to the double status of Mintha who is now transformed by metamorphosis into a fragrant plant[19] and now changed into an ‘insignificant grass’ .[20] These botanical details are echoed in the third version of the myth of Mint whose theme is a double opposition: between with and without fruit, and fertile and sterile. Demeter’s hatred is vented this time not upon the aromatic species of mint but upon calamint[21], a species of wild mint which gives off a strong, unpleasant smell[22] reputed to put snakes to flight[23] and which, when replanted the wrong way up, with its head down, loses its wild character and becomes cultivatable.[24] As mint really is a sterile plant or one that bears only atrophied fruit[25], the ‘sterility’ inflicted upon it by Demeter might well appear to be simply a reflection of the botanical facts. However, on the mythical level on which the episode is set, the Greek concept of dkarpos, ‘sterile’, combines two meanings the second of which is expressed in a line of Orphic poetry on the subject of wild mint: ‘In former times it used to be a large tree, laden with fruit, pherékarpos’.[26] Once a fruit-bearing tree but now transformed into a small chthonic plant, the ‘fruitless’ calamint is, equally, a vegetable species afflicted with sterility or akarpia.”

if i adjust my hyperfixation slightly to the left i can start working on the asld pokemon au again (likely won't happen anytime soon, but i have been Thinking fondly of it. it's been a MINUTE since i worked on it, like probably 2 or 3 years). i don't think i ever shared the cast's partner pokemon publicly but it is why my first best buddy in pokego was a glaceon named nerissa. anyway if you're interested we had

nerissa - glaceon: an ice type, obviously. it mostly just felt right, but i think there's something to be said about, like, her having a partner with SO many potential evolutions and choosing to evolve it into an ice type (a la having so many different potential manifestations of her magic but actively choosing to freeze it and favouring ice-based magic even after she becomes an angel and can do whatever the fuck she want, because she's Literally god now, etc.). my second option for her was froslass for the dual ghost-ice typing

poseidon - mudkip: i have no reasoning for this other than i think it'd be cute. and water type. starter pokemon and all that. they're both just little guys. i have a note somewhere that he received mudkip from ryes when he was 11, which is a cute mental image

ada - altaria. a shiny one because then they have matching golden aesthetics. its a big fluffy powerhouse that evolves from a small fluffy bird. in my head she met swablu as a kid when she found it injured and nursed it back to health, despite her mother's disdain for pokemon

emmet - lucario. ORIGINALLY, i thought to give him a fire type, but fighting fits so much better honestly. emmet's whole Thing is like...his ability to Stand Up And Fight. and a lot of his development is centred around this idea of inner strength > physical strength, so the aura pokemon feels...fitting

isobel - blaziken. similar vibes as my rationale behind emmet's pokemon, but obviously with the dual fire type too because she's well. she's got that inner flame. what can i say

avery - in the au she actually doesn't have a pokemon for most of her life, although adonis and amery do. however i believe as a nod to her ward-setting capabilities and self-destructive tendencies, i assigned her forretress

ely - milotic. a beautiful water type for a beautiful water mage. also in a way it sort of mirrors his relationship with adrienne (ok in the sense of shes like this guy fucking sucks [racist] and then "haha i guess hes kinda hot tho" in the way everyone hates feebas until it evolves, i don't know. but actually in the idea i wrote down for this he, like ada, found his pokemon buddy injured and nursed it back to health. UNLIKE ada, he set it free after - but then it came back to him after it evolved because it was endeared by his healer swag)

i also wrote down that amery has a deerling, which is fitting because of her and ada's shared spring motif, i suppose. ryes i assigned relicanth because i mean. yeah (side note: he would be OBSESSED with the regis, lmao). emerson was a piplup probably for the same reason poseidon was a mudkip. for whatever reason in this au i assigned aether and erebus ho-oh and lugia respectively, even though there are LITERALLY White and Black legendary pokemon, lmao. my mind is an enigma even i can't comprehend

also, elnora's was zorua, which is...such a good choice. kudos to past me for that one. stella was mightyena so i guess dark types run in the family

anyway, that's pretty much all i've got. i had like, ideas about legendary encounters, etc. too (OBVIOUSLY poseidon would encounter and befriend mew, it's kinda analogous to chaos right??) and i think reasonably nerissa would Have to meet giratina because like. underworld = distortion world, maybe. i also think she and articuno would make an epic duo strictly in the sense of they uh. both have wings. and ice beam. aether is like that guy in the one anipoke movie who somehow manages to trap arceus in his basement so he can cast judgement on the haters (that is not what happened in that movie. but it IS what aether would do, except "the haters" is just erebus). in my ideal world this is an au in comic form but i really don't draw that often so it'll probably never properly see the light of day. still. it's in my brain. and my notes app, apparently

    ending a 19 hour shift with a code was the cherry on top of an awful day, and adonis seemed to be the only one to notice something was off with eli. he was a very hard spirit to break. but he had no time to wind down, and the blame of just about everything seemed always shifted onto him. 

    ❝ why do you care? ❞ muttered when asked what was wrong. they’re strange words, coming from eli’s mouth. he was never one to throw a pity-party or get defensive. adonis was right: he wasn’t okay. ‘because i like you. because you’re my friend.’ eli turns away at the comment. he’d never cried in front of anybody before. he’d hardly cried at all. it felt vulnerable.

There they were.

Those huge golden eyes. The slightly quivering lip. The innocent begging in that face.

Damn it all!

He couldn't see Astral anymore, he could only see Ena, Ena when they were young, when he'd been someone else.

The two were the exact same. Astral had no idea what he did to Eliphas's heart whenever his eyes went big and wide and pleading. The boy was so naive, he probably didn't even know he was doing it. Just like Ena.

It took Eliphas back. Back to when he was young, Don was young, and Ena was younger.

Anytime he and Don upset her, took away her cards to tease her, those gold eyes would go big, her lip would wobble, and she'd go "Eli, please?" .

He'd never been able to stand it. He'd cave in and give her the card, or stop the game, or whatever she wanted from him.

And now, her baby was doing it to him.

God, how had he not noticed it before? How alike they were?

If he had, would he have been gentler to Astral? Would he have taken care of him, the way he'd always taken care of Ena, until she suddenly was a woman, suddenly was the strongest of the three of them, able to flaunt him even without her power, her chaos, the way this boy couldn't yet, hadn't found his strength yet?

God damn him. How blind had he been to this child? Ena's child?

The child of the one dearest to him?

Goddamn him and his order. Goddamn it all. The silver of his order had been a blinding light. He'd been blind to everything.

But how could he have been so blind to this child? Those golden eyes?

Just how far had he gone? If even those gold eyes hadn't been able to call him out of those depths?

"Eliphas?"

Why did the boy's voice sound just like hers? How long had he spoken like that while he'd been deaf to it. She sounded just like that when he didn't pay attenti-

"Eliphas, are you ok?"

"Yes, yes. You can go play with Adonis, I'll make an excuse up to the old man, Ennie."

"...Eliphas? Are you sure you're alright? I can get Ena or-"

Eliphas shook himself out of the past. He wasn't, he remembered, kept inside by the old master with Ena because he got them both in trouble for spilling ink on his seat with Ena desperately wanting to go out and play with Adonis, he was right here, right now, and this wasn't Ena, this was her baby boy.

"No, I am fine, Astral, don't bother your mother," he mumbled, half-confused. Why did they seem the same? Astral and his mother? Ena and her baby?

The baby he'd taken from her so many year ago to fulfill his own agenda.

Why hadn't she killed him when he did it? She was capable of it?

Because her heart would have never let her. If it had been anyone but him, she would have killed them. That was why he went himself to take the baby, he knew she wouldn't hurt him.

He wished she had fought him.

"Mother?... Oh! Sorry! I meant-I meant, ah, I mean, I didn't mean to be rude! I mean, should I get Mama?"

Mama. The very young would refer to their mothers like that. After a certain age they'd use Mother.

This boy was so young.

What had he done to him? Astral hadn't even known who his mother was until recently.

And that was Eliphas's fault.

Damn it.

What had he become?

Why had they forgiven him?

Because that's who they were.

Ena and her baby. They were one and the same. Their kindness, their love, it surpassed all other emotions. They weren't selfish in any single way.

They had hearts of gold, gold that their eyes reflected. Just like how those innocent, baby eyes gazed at him in genuine concern, in spite of the fact that he'd been the one that hurt this little boy.

Damn it all!

Asala caught Adonis cheating on Kelley, so she took matters into her own hands and told Kelley herself.

Of course, Baddur had to get involved. She decided to beat Kelley up, causing Asala to discipline her.

Asala HATES bullies.

Kelly deserves so much better. Her parents are Jared Frio and Agnes Crumplebottom. She's the kid Agnes has always wanted, yet Kelley doesn't have much of a relationship with her, nor does Jared.

Young Adults, yes, she, Adonis, and Baddur have aged up into young adults. Young adulthood starts at 18 and ends at 29, so she, a freshly 18 year old, moved in with an old man to get away from her parents.

The one time Adonis went over to her house, her and her dad argued all night. She started seeing a guy her age soon after she broke up with Adonis, so hopefully, they find their way back to each other.

Other happenings:

Callie has the hots for a recent graduate, and the feeling is mutual. He stood her up for a date, so maybe he's having conflicting feelings about pursuing the relationship (as he should).

I don't think Baddur wants to do anything with her life. Her current aspiration is to make 20 friends, but she just doesn't know how to. Next round, we're getting her therapy <333

GASPS, I just thought about her opening up a daycare.

Another character defining moment was her hitting it off with some guy at the fall festival, but berating him when she found out he hates children. She ended up fighting him.

🙊 SPEAK-NO-EVIL - what is something your oc will refuse to stay quiet about?

A huge part of Eli’s story is about him learning to stand up for himself and to take up space and once he learns to do that he does it excellently- sort of. He’s really shitty at standing up for himself, but other people? No problem. It’d be kind of funny if it weren’t so sad- the guy who lets everyone else walk all over him is the same one getting into a fuckin fistfight two seconds later when someone insults his friends. Keep in mind this is later in his arc, because before that, he’s quiet about literally everything so that he doesn’t come off as annoying or bother anyone. So, in short, he refuses to be quiet about any injustices against other people yet refuses to speak up about any injustices against him.

🌈 RAINBOW - what advice would they give to their younger self?

Honestly? Adonis would have absolutely no idea what he’s supposed to say to his younger self. A simple “don’t fuck up,” maybe? He’s made several mistakes in the past, all of which led to him being Depressed And Alone as we see when we first meet him, and it would be impossible for him to cover all of them in one piece of advice. I think, though, the easiest would be to stop pushing everyone away. It’s only gonna make things worse in the long run. And also stop picking stupid fights that’s how he winds up with a bigass facial scar.

🌠 SHOOTING STAR - if they could make any wish with no repercussions, what wish would they make?

There are many different things Saengchan would wish for, but seeing as she is the most impulsive motherfucker in the world, she’d likely end up blurting out the first thing that comes to mind- which would be to be a dragon. It might be impractical and also a really weird thing to permanently wish for, but it would be a dream come true for him. A talking dragon, though, because they thrive on gossip and that’d be hard if people couldn’t understand them. Plus it’d be useful for taking down Breez, even though they could technically just wish for Breez to be defeated, but they want to be a dragon so the corrupt capitalist murder machine can wait.

🎭 MASKS - do they act differently around certain people? what's different between the way they act around friends, family, strangers, etc.?

Aaima acts very different around different groups of people!! Around her family, she’s much more quiet and reserved, seeing as she’s used to just fading into the background. With strangers, she comes off as cold and a little hostile, because she Does Not Trust Them and is always ready for a fight. Among friends, however (mainly the rest of Team Red because they are literally her only friends), Aaima is loud and unashamedly herself (plus a liiiitle bit bossy but it’s okay we love her). She is absolutely the kind of friend to viciously make fun of you in a loving way. It was a big shock for her family watching her act that way in the show because really? Shy, passive Aaima being loud and competitive? Wtf?

😭 CRYING - what makes them cry? do they cry easily?

Ace does not cry easily at all! In fact, their general philosophy on Bad Feelings is “smile through it and it’ll go away eventually!” which, yknow, is not healthy, but that’s them. If they do cry, it is only ever in private where nobody else can see them because that’s Super Embarrassing!

🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?

Flynn is a scarily good liar. He will spout complete and utter bullshit right to your face without batting an eye if that’s what it takes to get what he wants from you. They have absolutely no problems with lying to people for any reason. He does, however, have one specific tell that’s a bit hard to notice, but he tends to blink a lot less when he’s lying - he’s paying very close attention and gauging your reaction the whole time to make sure he doesn’t get caught.
