Stíny jsou dnes delší (Die Schatten werden länger) performed by Pavel Režný (Der Tod/Smrt) and Pavel Klimenda (Rudolf) from the Czech production of Elisabeth for the concert Michael Prostějovský Superstar
I was sad literally yesterday that I missed the Czech production of Elisabeth das musical in Plzeň and that I won’t be able to experience the Czech lyrics..
Well, I just found out it is going to be opening in a theater close to me in December of this year!! We were just talking with my dad what we wanted to see there and he casually mentioned it, I almost cried. Serendipity fr.
While I do have some questions regarding some staging/directing decisions (as in, I understand them from an artistic pov, but I am not sure that’s the appropriate storytelling tool for this kind of story) I am so happy we got to see it
So much love and effort were put into this production, such fabulous costumes, the vocals!!!!! the orchestra was also killing it
It was absolutely worth all the pain we had to go through to get there lol, and the fact that we have been up for nearly 36 hours straight
I já bych ráda zas zašla. Moje přání je ho vidět ještě tenhle rok v prosinci. :D tak snad bude. 30.9. 2020 Plzeň - Sweeney Todd ďábelský lazebník z Fleet Street @muzikal_djkt #plzen #plzen20 #DJKT #listky #ticket #divadlo #divadloplzen #muzikaldjkt #VASEcinoHRA #weartethehunters #wearrtethehunters20 #sweeneytodd #sweeneytodddabelskylazebnikzfleetstreet (v místě Plzen, Czech Republic) https://www.instagram.com/p/CFz8gKiJKeq/?igshid=18d2m8v42dy76
I just remembered that moment in the Czech Elisabeth production where at the end of Rastlose Jahre, Elisabeth grabs Lucheni's sketchbook with a drawing of her, tears the page out, shreds it into little scraps of paper in her hands while agressively staring Lucheni down and then shoves the torn up page into Lucheni's mouth. ICONIC
One of my favorite moments of Czech Elisabeth will always be:
Rudolf: "I beat a cat to death yesterday!"
Smrt, thousand mile staring into the ground and very visibly seriously thinking over every decision that led up to this point: *internally* "What kind of weird kid is this and why did I end up in this situation?"
I'm still not over the fact that both the Czech Elisabeths had very different approaches to the role and depending on which Elisabeth you saw, you got a different impression of the actual ending.
Michaela Štiková Gemrotová's Elisabeth was glad to be with Death in the end, smiling as they embraced one another, seemingly deciding to stay with him in the land of the dead in the end, giving us a very romantic ending. Her walking away from Death was more like her being fascinated in the new world she now is to inhabit along all the other passed away souls.
Soňa Hanzlíčková's Elisabeth tho, she was at peace with her life ending, but very much in line with her I'd argue very historically accurate interpretation of Elisabeth's character, she merely accepted Death as an inevitable part of her life. She never once initiated them embracing during DSF, it was always Death drawing her into an embrace while he looked at her starry eyed, she was the one to break the kiss and break away from Death. As she walked away from him, I got more of the impression of her soul, finally free, leaving behind everyone who simply can't move on, including Death.
