Many of us hold the misconception that losing weight would make us happier. Research shows that isn't true. We love Dr Laurie Santos' The Science of Wellbeing course and The Happiness Lab podcast. In week 2 of the course she shares data that dieting in general and dieting leading to weight loss can make you less happy. You'll see in the chart that the folks that lost weight have a more depressed mood than those whose weight didn't change or gained weight after 4 years. Other studies showed that teens who underwent cosmetic surgery to change the way they look were less happy post surgery. So what is the key to happiness? Let's hear it for compassion, self love, and self-acceptance!!!! Check out Dr Santos' work! https://ift.tt/2E2aBn4 and https://ift.tt/2PvAWou #bodyacceptance #selflove #embodylove #bodypositive #dietculturesucks https://ift.tt/3npIaa0

#Repost @ohheytiara with @get_repost ・・・ THE COMMENTS SECTION ON SOCIAL MEDIA IS THE WORST. 🤢 I often read people who claim they are just wOrRiEd about other people's health by telling them they need to lose weight for hEaLtH. Like...who are you to say that you know a person's health or medical records just from looking at their bodies? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Many people gained weight and became healthier because that is exactly what their bodies need (me included). 👋🏼 Many people lost weight in the most unhealthy ways *cougheatingdisordercough* and yet they are praised for their shrinking bodies. 😩 Keep comments and assumptions to yourself and believe that everyone is trying to do their best. 💙🙏🏽 • • • • #nondietapproach #nomorediets #allbodiesaregoodbodies #nourishnotpunish #bingeeatingdisorderrecovery #intuitiveeating #intuitiveeatingofficial #intuitiveeatingjourney #healthateverysize #foodfreedomforever #bodykindness #bodyrespect #joyfulmovement #fatacceptance #emotionaleatingrecovery #bodytrust #riotsnotdiets #selfloveclub #selfcompassion #ditchthediet #bodyimageissues #antidiet #dietculturedropout #dietsdontwork #dietculturesucks #bingeeatingrecovery #indonesiasehat #antidietculture #eatingdisorderindonesia #bodytrust https://ift.tt/3cX6XNS

Thank you and yes! Diets go by many names these days-cleanses, detoxes, lifestyles. It’s all the same harmful diet culture with a new package. Repost @thenutritiontea ・・・ Nope it’s not a “lifestyle”. And I don’t care how long the list is of food you’re allowed to eat. And the fact that one would feel the need to go off a list is telling in itself. There are some eating habits that we do have to shift for. Diabetes, kidney disease (especially if you need dialysis), Crohn’s, food allergies, etc. These aren’t the restrictive diet culture fads out there for losing weight though. These are actual lifestyle changes and can be sustained. Especially when you work with a DIETITIAN 😉. See what I did there? There’s a BIG difference. Not to mention even if you have to change it up with how you eat due to a disease or allergy, the food freedom mentality can still be applied. Not to mention there is no guilt or food shame for simply eating. Remember that saying the word diet is very uncool now. The industry has caught on. So now they use the word lifestyle. Or wellness program. The Noom ads actually throw in the term “self care” 🤦🏽‍♀️. Listen, anytime you have to restrict what you’re eating for the end goal to be weight loss it’s a diet. And if it’s done in a harmful way, that’s way worse and proven not to last. No one should be eating 1200 calories. That’s not a lifestyle nor is it sustainable. No one should cut out entire food groups. That’s also not sustainable. No one should feel ashamed of eating foods that they like. Period. ✌🏽 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #selfcaresunday #foodfreedomforever #foodfreedom #allfoodsfit #healthyeah #dietitiansofinstagram #rdsofinstagram #ditchthediet #stopdieting #eatwellbewell #iamwellandgood #eatsmart #guiltfree https://ift.tt/2CcTCT0

Posted @withregram • @theyogacasa Sometimes when we gain weight we choose to keep the underwear that no longer fits. This is very uncomfortable and can feel like we are punishing ourselves for gaining the weight in the first place. Or we think this will motivate us to lose the weight. But really we all deserve to wear clothes that we feel good in. Being kind to our body and treating her/him/them with respect is always the best choice.💛 #theyogacasa #bodyacceptance #bodyrespect #realyoga4realpeople https://ift.tt/3gyGzBv

Posted @withregram • @shreen_beyoubefree I wish I could take away all the heartache that you have experienced with dieting and trying to change your body. ⁣ ⁣ I know exactly how it feels, as I spent nearly two decades of my life desperately trying to change mine. ⁣ ⁣ But we weren’t born hating our bodies, we were taught to hate them by diet culture.⁣ ⁣ A culture that makes us believe that are worth is all about our weight, which keeps us so distracted that we don’t have the brain space or energy to pursue our dreams or fight for the things that truly matter.⁣ ⁣ A culture that directly profits off our vulnerabilities and insecurities which they created.⁣ ⁣ A culture that has a global value of $245 billion (USD).⁣ ⁣ Even though I can’t take away the years of pain, what I can do is encourage you to no longer let your life and your happiness be ruled by the shape of your body, and to no longer let diet culture steal any more years, memories, or money, ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Let me leave this with you. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ “𝘈 𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘧𝘪𝘹𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘯 𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘺, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦… 𝘋𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘰𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘦𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘸𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯’𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺; 𝘢 𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘦𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘥 𝘱𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦.” ⁣ Naomi Wolf- The Beauty Myth ⁣ ⁣ We have way more important sh*t to do in this world than obsessing over the size of our body ❤️ Thanks for posting this @diannebondyyogaofficial https://ift.tt/48OQRUe

Posted @withregram • @beauty_redefined What objectifying media messages did you see when you were little that taught you to evaluate your body from the outside as a judgmental onlooker? What messages taught you that your body is embarrassing because it doesn't look like the ones represented in media? Where did you learn that you were a body first and a person second? ✖️Lindsay and I learned it from never seeing any girl on TV or movies that had a body that didn't fit the extremely thin ideal. If there was a girl considered "chubby," she was food-obsessed, the funny sidekick, and the butt of jokes. Remember, strict beauty and body standards for women but not men is the result of objectification. When you see these double standards for appearance (and the backlash against women that do not meet these standards), know that you are witnessing women being viewed as objects first and humans second. ✖️We learned it from subscribing to teen magazines that fed us weight loss tips, fashion and styling tips, and strategies to "get the guy." There was no magazine alternative for the boys, which further solidified that girls were required to beautify themselves at all costs. We learned it from fat jokes on kids' TV shows, the workout videos rife with fatphobia we bought with our own lawn-mowing money in an effort to lose weight before school started each year. We learned it from the way the kids at school would bully people and the way the less attractive kids were treated. We learned it from a million shows, songs & people impacted by objectifying cultural ideals. 🙌🏽Now we're helping you to UNLEARN it. To learn to SEE the objectification that has seeped into your psyche and caused you to self-objectify your life away. The first couple chapters in our book that talk about this are heavy. But knowing these truths is the first step to building your body image resilience. It's the only way. Once you see it, you can't un-see it, and you'll have the foundation to rise in the face of objectification every time it calls you to slip outside of yourself to judge & monitor your body from afar. #morethanabody https://ift.tt/wRMg4P9
