while he's often teased over being the brawn rather than the brains of the night courts inner circle, the man doesn't consider himself unintelligent ( yet now, he cannot help but feel horribly lost ). "i ⸺ what?" brows furrow further at her statements, scrambling to try to put pieces together to assemble a clear picture but clearly missing... something. "what am i meant to be ignoring, or rather, not ignoring? did one of my brothers do something?" not many other illyrians had made the journey, and the few that had accompanied their small entourage tended to be rather well behaved when outside the night court. "i'm afraid you will need to be blunt with me, your lady."

We see the girl's dress rip on a bush, but the girl catches Hsthete's hand from the bush and shouts, "Wait!" She and Hsthete exchange a glance, before Hsthete turns into a goat and runs away, the girl chasing after her and shouting, "Stop!" She runs after the goat into the forest, shouting, "Please! I need your help!"

Hsthete, back in her humanoid form, asks, "With what, mortal?" The girl looks at her for a moment, before saying sadly, "I need a mishap to end my betrothal. Please." Hsthete says, "Your fiancé, I've seen him." We see a man silhouetted and sitting on a horse as Hsthete continues, "He is tall, and handsome, with a manor by the sea?" The girl replies, "Yes." We see the man at a party as Hsthete continues, "And he is kind, beloved by many, chosen specifically for you by your parents?"

The girl looks down and says, "Yes." Hsthete asks, "When surely there can be no objection to such a man?" Looking away and running a hand through her hair, the girl speaks, and we see the girl standing by the man as he talks to other people. Her voice says, "No, but... not once, in all the times he has visited me, has he ever looked at me." The girl's wide eyes stare into Hsthete's. Hsthete holds up a golden haircomb and says, "Then take my comb." Tucking it into the girl's hair, she continues, "It will make your hair so lustrous, he will be unable to look away."

We see the following narration illustrated; "The next day, all the milk in the house curdled. The cat destroyed our best tablecloth. And all day, I wore the comb. But my tall, kind, beloved fiancé still did not look at me once. The next night, I broke a favourite bowl in the yard." We see Hsthete sitting on a tree stump behind the girl, saying, "Shame to waste the finery, no?" Walking up to Hsthete, the girl says, "Please, I need a mishap. My wedding is in 3 days." She holds the comb sadly as she continues, "Even with your comb, he still never looked once."

Hsthete takes a bell necklace off of her and puts it around the girl's neck as she says, "Then here - take my bell. When you laugh, it will ring so beautifully, he will have no choice but to look." Walking away, she finishes, "If only to see what brings you such mirth." We see the girl looking after Hsthete, the sun setting behind her. We see the girl next to her fiancé, laughing loudly, as narration reads, "The next day, whenever my fiancé told a joke, I laughed loudest of all." We see the fiancé sipping some wine and the girl looking upset as narration continues, "And my rich, generous, popular husband-to-be still did not once turn his head. So that night, I dropped a left show down the well."

We see Hsthete lying over the top of the well, drawling, "Getting rather accident-prone, aren't we?" The girl rushes up to her and says, "Please, I beg you! My wedding is in two days! And no amount of laughter will make my fiancé look at me." Hsthete takes the girl's hand mournfully as she says, "I have only one thing left to give." She hands the girl a candle, and on the same level, lit by the same light, she says, "Take my candle. Use it to light your way home. And trust me. On your wedding day, your beloved will see you." The girl looks back at Hsthete, hesitant.

We see the girl holding the candle and walking home in the dark, and then sleeping next to the still-burning candle as she narrates, "I did as she asked. But with precious little hope." A stern woman rouses the girl and says, "Up, up, up! The rooster's crowed thrice and your wedding is today." Panicked, the girl shouts, "What?!" The woman replies, "A big storm is coming tomorrow, so you must be wed today. Your fiancé already sent word he is on his way." We see the crying girl being pushed down the aisle as she narrates, "My wished-for mishap had finally arrived. But only to doom me faster."

We see her fiancé standing at the alter as she narrates, "But then, for the very first time..." her fiancé opens their eyes, revealing Hsthete's goat-like eyes, looking at the girl and smiling as she brings a finger over her lips. Narration reads, "I felt the full force of my spouse-to-be's gaze like the sun." The girl cries with joy against a happy yellow background, and she links arms with her fiancé and smiles her way through the ceremony.

We see a storm as she narrates, "It did indeed storm the next day." We see her fiancé on a horse in the pouring rain, before he opens the doors to the church, sopping wet, only to find it empty. Narration reads, "My handsome, rich, popular betrothed was quite soaked through by the time he arrived at the church."

We see a rooster crowing in front of a hillside manor as she narrates, "Meanwhile, in a manor on a mountaintop far away, I slept through another rooster's call." We see the girl and Hsthete spooning in bed and sleeping peacefully as the narration ends, "If I am lucky, I may live to do so many, many times. more." End image description]

We sharing anaesthetic stories?? I had to have dental surgery when i was in middle school.

According to my mom and sister the very first thing i did upon waking up was BOLT upright and proceed to try and shove my ENTIRE fist in my mouth as fast as possible.

I had to be physically stopped, and i proceeded to sob my eyes out for the next 20 minutes. Somehow, i didnt damage anything 🤣
