Dad!Joe Mazzello x Reader

Summary: Joe has the sole responsibility of taking care of his daughter, your daughter, on a Friday night. With you out, everything almost, I stress the almost, goes according to plan.

Warnings: None- Pure fluff!

Word Count: 1.5k

Author’s Note: Emma Rowan Mazzello is around the age of 5 here! I’m not sure if this will be a series or not, but I feel myself possibly writing a few more parts if this goes well!

Instead of going home to cook dinner for Joe and Emma like a normal weekday night, you were currently stuck at work pacing back and forth. Not only were you worried due to the presentation you were going to have to show in front of your boss in roughly fifteen minutes, but you were also stressed leaving your husband and daughter home alone.

Not that you didn’t trust Joe, that wasn’t the case at all, you were simply just used to picking up Emma after school and bringing her home where you would then cook dinner and help her with any homework she had; her homework would usually consist of colouring and word exercises.

On a Friday night, like tonight, the three of you would promptly make popcorn and watch a movie of Emma’s choice, being anything from a Disney movie to a Studio Ghibli movie. Afterwards, you, Joe, or the two of you together, would put Emma to sleep; it depended on who she wanted to read her a story that night.

After that, you and Joe would lay together in your room. Depending on how stressful your weeks had been, you would find yourselves reading a book, falling straight asleep, or taking part in some PG acts.

Back to the current situation, this wasn’t going to be the typical plan this Friday night, seeing as work had interfered. This left Joe, as he had said to you the previous day, with the responsibility of ‘planning a night Emmie will enjoy.”

Distracting you from your thoughts, your phone beeped from atop of your desk, leading you to rush over. It was just a test from Joe.

“Hi babe, I know you’re probably stressing right now, but I assure you that your presentation will go as planned.”

You smiled at the text in front of you. Even after years into marriage, he knew how to make your heart flutter.

“Also, I’ve already cooked dinner, Em’s favourite, mac n’cheese. And, don't worry, I cut her some vegetables too.”

You shook your head slightly at Joe’s message, a smile uncontrollably spreading across your face, distracting you from your present stress.

“Also, also. I’m taking her to the movie theater as a surprise. I promise, I won't put her to sleep late, we both will probably be asleep when you get home. I’ll see you later, love you <3”

Sending him a simple ‘thank you’ and ‘i love you so much’ back, you placed your phone away before packing up your stuff to present in the conference room.

“Come on, ladybug,” Joe sighs, holding the carrot up to his daughters face. The two of them were currently sitting at the dinner table beside each other, eating the meal Joe had just cooked.

“It’s not going to hurt you.”

All Emma did was shake her head, crossing her arms as her lips went into a tiny pout, “It tastes gross.”

Joe tried his best to keep a straight face, biting the inside of his cheek to do so, when all he truly wanted to do was smile.

“How do you know it tastes gross when you haven’t eaten it yet?” Joe questions her, slightly raising his eyebrows at the question, as if stating the truth was really going to make his little five year old eat the carrot.

She shook her head again, looking at the floor.

“Fine,” Joe said while putting the carrot back down on her plate, “Daddy was going to take you somewhere special tonight, but I guess you’d rather I just put you to bed now.”

He stood up from the table, picking up his own face. The next steps of Joe’s negotiating was bound to work.

She peaked up from under her lashes as well as the strand of hair that had fallen in front of her face while she was glaring at the ground.

Joe finally had her attention.

“But, I can still take you somewhere special if you eat your carrots.”

Walking away from the table with his plate, he brought it to the sink, cursing himself under his breath for if this little plan wasn’t going to work.

Upon arriving back to the table, he saw Emma quickly eating the second baby carrot on her plate. He chuckled slightly at the sight.

“Slow down, Em, the surprise isn’t going to run away,” Joe smiled, sitting back down in the seat beside her, a smile forming on her own face in return.

Unlocking the door to your house, you walked inside to be met by only the upstairs hallway light on, indicating that Joe wasn’t lying when he said he’d have her asleep by the time you got home.

Kicking off your shoes and walking up the stairs as quietly as possible, you shuffled your way to where a small source of light was emitting from; Emma’s room.

Walking right up to the doorframe, you put your back against the wall as you listened into the conversation of Joe and your daughter.

“And they lived happily ever after. The end,” you heard Joe speak softly, finishing some princess story to Emma.

Peaking your head in slightly, you saw Joe sitting on the side of her bed, your daughter all tucked in and drowning in pillows, looking as if she was going to fall asleep any moment- Joe wasn’t too far behind.

“Thank you, daddy,” she smiled sleepily, hugging her stuffed penguin close to her chest.

“You are very welcome,” Joe continues to speak ever so softly, placing the book he had just read ontop of her nightstand.

“Are you and Hugsy snug as a rug?” He asks, readjusting the comforter so it was placed just below her chin.

She laughs at his statement, burying her face in the neck of Hugsy, her stuffed penguin.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” Joe's lips pull into a soft smile.

“Goodnight, my ladybug,” he speaks while leaning down to kiss her forehead.

She smiles up to him as he pulls away, standing up from his previous position on the edge of the bed. You quickly peak your head away from the side of the door to not scare Joe, going back to standing completely outside the frame.

“I love you 3000,” your little girl speaks to Joe, and you could tell Joe was probably just about dying at the comment.

“I love you...” He briefly pauses, putting his hand to his chin pretending to think.

“4000!” Joe finally says back to her, shutting off the light in her room while walking into the hallway, closing the door behind him although leaving it ajar.

Turning to you, he looks anything but startled as he steps towards you to give you a kiss.

“I didn’t scare you?” You ask with subtle confusion, taking his hand and walking back to your shared room.

“You aren’t exactly as quiet as a mouse when walking up the stairs, love,” you playfully glared your eyes at him.

With both of you talking about your conference while getting ready for bed, you soon found yourselves cuddled up beside each other tucked under the comforter.

“What was that about, the loving you 3000?” you ask Joe, your head resting on his chest as your looked up to him, “were you guys learning numbers today?”

With his hand rubbing your back, he furrowed his brows at your thought, “not exactly.”

It took him a few moments to think before he was answering your question truthfully, “I took her to the movies and that was a line it.”

You smiled to yourself as you placed your head back down on his chest, arm draped over his torso, “what was the movie?”

“Endgame... that Avengers movie,” Joe spoke at an almost inaudible tone, watching as your head, regardless of his volume, quickly shot up.

“Joseph Francis Mazzello, I hope you’re joking,” the look on his face plainly stated otherwise.

“Joe, that’s too violent for her, really?” you moved yourself off of him to rest your head on your own pillow, your attention still focused on his face.

“She saw the movie poster and said it was pretty, and upon closer inspection, she noticed there were girl superheros, and it kinda went downhill from there,” Joe was fumbling with the edge of the covers in his hand, indicating he was propably feeling a tad guilty.

How could you blame him? He had her wrapped around his finger and you wouldn’t want it being any other way.

Even with the movie not being exactly appropriate for her, you couldn’t help but feel a happiness wash over you at the bonding the two of them did today.

“I swear, it wasn’t that bad, it could’ve been worse,” Joe says referring to the movie, wrapping his arms around you to pull you into a hug.

You sigh softly, your head rested beside his on his pillow, his scent comforting you.

“I love you 3000, y/n” he gave you a peck on the nose, squeezing you gently with his arms wrapped around you..

“I love you 3000, too, Joe.”

Dad!Joe Mazzello x Reader

Summary: Emma has a bad dream, but of course, Joe comes to the rescue! (Idea by @anywaythewind13lows)

Warnings: A small nightmare, Joe singing, honestly what can I say this is just pure fluff!

You and Joe were currently snuggled into each other under the thick duvet that was providing the two of you with much warmth. It was one of those days. One of those days where you work too hard and want nothing more but to fall asleep before you’ve even eaten dinner.

Not only did you and Joe have a long day at work, but your little girl Emma also had a tiring day at pre-school.

To relax, the three of you had a special night and ate dinner in the living room, something Emma really enjoyed doing, sitting down to watch a movie your daughter had chosen. It just so happened to be Moana.

Once the movie was finished, Emma had fallen asleep between you and Joe, your own eyes barely staying open. Bringing her up to tuck her in bed, she was out the whole time which meant you didn’t have to argue with her to go to sleep.

Although the two of you were almost out like a light, a faint crying was heard from the room across the hall, the room that just so happened to be your daughters. Moaning faintly into the pillow, you used your elbows to prop yourself up on the mattress.

“I’ll go,” you speak to Joe quietly, slipping out of bed into your slippers before even giving him a chance to respond.

A muffled ‘K’ was all you got as a response before you continued to make your way to Emma’s room.

To Joes surprise, you were back in your bedroom in a matter of seconds, switching on the light to wake him up.

“Joey, get up she wants you,” you speak to him in a rushed pace, already sounding much more awake then prior to when you slipped out of bed.

Rolling over while using his hand to shield his eyes from the blinding light, he focused on your stance at the door, “What’s wrong?”

“She won’t tell me,” you sigh crossing your arms, watching Joe slide out of the bed and tiredly walk towards you while rubbing his eyes to make himself more awake.

“I’ll figure it out,” Joe smiles softly, knowing he definitelywould be figuring it out. Giving you a quick peck on the lips, he was soon on his way towards Emma’s bedroom.

He saw a faint light in the hallway illuminated from the lamp in her room, knocking on her door softly while peaking his head in.

“Mommy said you were looking for me,” Joe says calmly watching as she looked up from her favourite stuffed penguin, Hugsy, to look at the person who was talking to her.

Her eyes were a soft shade of red from crying while her tears were evidently stained on her cheeks. His heart instantly broke at the sight. He was already certain she had woken up in the middle of a bad dream.

Wasting no time before finding himself sitting on the edge of her bed with her smaller figure tucked under his arm, he was cooing to her to try and calm her down.

“Ladybug, you’re okay,” he spoke in a soft but reassuring tone to her, rubbing his hand gently against her arm.

She wasn’t crying anymore but quiet yet almost inaudible sniffles still replaced the tears. She was cuddled into him, holding tightly onto Hugsy.

Leaning against the headboard with her still wrapped under his arm, he decided she was more prepared to talk compared to when he first walked in the room after a few minutes of silence.

“Do you want to tell Daddy why you were crying,” he asks, hoping for a response. To his dismay, all he got was a;

“No.”

He sighed as a small grin tugged across his lips. She sure took after you and your stubbornness.

“Look,” Joe takes the stuffed penguin from her arms and holds it in front of the two of them, “Hugsy is sad too.”

Emma looked from Hugsy to Joe and back to Hugsy, a small frown forming onto her face.

“If you tell me what made you cry, maybe we can make Hugsy happy again,” He looks down to her as he speaks, watching as she held her arms out to hold Hugsy again, “How does that sound?”

She nodded a ‘yes,’ snuggling further into Joe’s side as she held the stuffed penguin close to her.

“I had a scary dream,” she speaks softly as her hands played with the fluffy wings of the plushie.

“Do you want to tell me what it was about?” Joe speaks dimly, his arm continuing to rub her arm. He watched as she was hesitant to respond at first, keeping her eyes focused on Hugsy.

“It was about the scary crab,” she almost mumbles, turning her face into Joes side clearly still scared of the image. Joe wrapped his other arm around her to secure her in a tight but gently hug, letting her know she was safe with him.

“The scary crab from Moana?” Joe questions, feeling her head nod a ‘yes’ against his side.

“It was trying to take me away from you,” she sniffled, sounding as if she was going to start to cry again. Obviously, Joe couldn’t let that happen.

“The scary crab could never take you away from me,” he reassured her, giving the top of her head a soft peck.

“Why?” She questions, her big eyes looking up to him, intrigued with how he was going to stop the scary crab from tearing the two of them, partners in crime, apart.

“I would scare it away,” he looks down to her, giving Emma a soft smile, “Just like how it scared you.”

Her eyebrows furrowed, “You would make it cry too?”

Joe chuckled at her response, watching as her arms remained tightly wrapped around her stuffed penguin.

“Not exactly,” he softly smiles, watching as her state was already much happier compared to the tear stained and puffy eyed state she was in when he first saw her.

“Then how?” Em asked. She was always full of questions and Joe just absolutely adored that about her.

“How?” He responds to her question with a question, “Well, if you want to know.”

And just like that, she turned into a giggly mess as Joe started to tickle her sides, “It’s because I’m the tickle monster!”

The smile that spread across her face was always one thing that made Joe happy to not only be a father, but to have the family that he currently immersed himself in.

“See, Em,” he said stopping his little torture as he went to lift her stuffed animal from her arms, “You and Hugsy are both happy now!”

She gave him a toothy smile as she wrapped her arms around him to give him a hug, “Thank you, daddy.”

“You’re very welcome, my ladybug,” Joe rubs her back, wiping the hair away from her face.

“Now, how about we get you back to sleep?” he asks, fixing the pillow behind her so she could lay her head down, “I’ll make sure no mean crab scares you this time.”

She did so without a fight, hugging Hugsy close to her as Joe pulled the covers up to just under her chin.

“Can you sing me a song?” Emma asks with large eyes once she was comfortable; a question Joe could definitely not say no to.

Getting comfortable as well and laying down beside her, his longer body was struggling to fully fit on her smaller bed as he found his feet hanging off.

“Do you have a song in mind?” he asks quietly, already noticing that her eyes were having a troubling time staying open.

“Moana,” she says through a tiny yawn, moving herself closer to be right beside Joe, her head close to his.

“Moana it is,” he agrees, and just as fast as he started singing the song, was just about how fast it was till both Joe and Emma had completely fallen asleep.
