French election candidates clash in heated debate over homeland’s ills
The three main candidates face off in the first major debate ahead of France’s snap parliamentary elections next week. According to polls, the far-right Rassemblement Nationale party, led by Marine Le Pen, a perennial opponent of President Emmanuel Macron, is leading so far, Bloomberg reports.
Days before the first round of legislative voting, centre-right Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, far-right National Rally leader Jordan Bardella and Manuel Bompard of the left-wing New Popular Front alliance shared their plans to address the country’s purchasing power, improve public services and the environment.
Often attacking and interrupting each other, the leaders tried to emphasise their differences. Attal tried to defend his government’s achievements, Bardella focused on his party’s hardline stance on immigration, crime and security, while Bompard promoted the left’s plan to lower the retirement age and raise taxes on the rich.
The snap election, called after President Emmanuel Macron’s party was defeated in European Parliament elections a fortnight ago, comes as a key turning point for the country as polls show his party will lose its majority in government. Most polls show the far-right National Rally in the lead, with the left-wing Alliance in second place and Macron’s group in third.
The opponents have constantly attacked each other’s premise, calculations and credibility. Attal said the others’ programmes “promise the moon” and “destroy jobs.” Bardella accused Bompard of pursuing a Cuban-style economic model, and the leftist called his rivals dishonest.
Pension age debate as a boiling point
The debate became heated when the three contestants broached the subject of the retirement age, which Macron – an unpopular move that sparked riots – raised to 64 from 62. Attal defended Macron’s decision, Bompard vowed to reverse it and Bardella said he would change it by setting what he called a “pivotal” age of 62.
Attal and Bardella promised not to raise taxes, while Bompard said taxes would be raised for people earning more than 4,000 euros (4,285) a month.
They also argued on immigration, while staying in line with their broad political views. While Attal attacked Bardella for questioning the Frenchness of dual nationals, Bardella said he would “take back control of immigration.” Bompard reminded Bardella of his Italian origins. Marine Le Pen, a spokeswoman for the Rassemblement Nationale, told France 2 television on Wednesday morning:
“In these legislative elections, we are constantly focused on micro-measures in all the TV and radio programmes, so I think it’s difficult for people to see the main contours, the big vision related to their choice.”
She said, turning to one of the nationalist party’s key talking points:
“Do we want, for example, as much immigration as we have today, in that case you have to choose the government, do you want 10 times as much, in that case you have to vote for the Popular Front, or do you want much less, in that case you have to vote for the National Rally.”
The debate was the first of two such live events – the next is scheduled for Thursday evening – ahead of the first round of voting on Sunday. The second round is scheduled for July 7.

"Game of Thrones" had a woman problem. And it always will.
This isn't anything new. Against a backdrop of gratuitous female nudity and frequent rape scenes, "Thrones" has always struggled to fully define the women who play its game. It's had trouble with the men, too (character consistency is one of the writers' biggest weaknesses), after the final episode of the TV juggernaut, its mistreatment of the women who once made the series great will be remembered as its original sin.
The last two episode of "Thrones" were a particular insult to some of its most beloved female characters. The remaining women (and those recently departed) have been ill-served by a mad dash to the finish line with little regard how to get there. Now that the smoke has cleared on the series, one of the many mixed morals of "Thrones" is that women are just too darn crazy. Groundbreaking, I know.
In this final season, "Thrones" has wasted Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), once its most engaging villain, giving her little screen time and an anticlimactic death. It also featured Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) expressing gratitude for enduring rape and torture; the death of Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel), its only woman of color; turned Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) into a sappy rom-com character more concerned with her lover's destiny than her own; and Daenerys Targaryen's (Emilia Clarke) hurried transformation into a "mad queen," as the woman who once freed thousands of slaves became a murderer of countless innocents because her best friend died, her boyfriend/nephew rejected her and she's angry no one loves her. And when it came time for Dany to meet her fate, it was as anticlimactic as Cersei's death, and shedied while begging Jon (Kit Harington) to take her back.
Dany's heel turn into megalomaniacal villain is one of the most controversial decisions in the whole series, perhaps even with the decision for Bran to rule Westeros at the series' end. Many fans felt that Dany's choice to murder thousands came out of nowhere, and while the writers planted seeds of her so-called madness over the years, foreshadowing isn't the same as character development. Sure, writers made her seem cruel over the years, but there has to be a reason why. Coupled with a scene in Episode 4 in which Varys (Conleth Hill) extolled Jon Snow (Kit Harington) as a leader just because he's a Targaryen and a man, and claimed that Dany is too unstable and too strong of a woman to rule, the writers seem like trolls who rant online about "crazy" ex-girlfriends.
Had the series taken time to make Dany's descent to villainy a slow slide instead of an air drop from 50,000 feet, it would feel more earned and far less stereotypical. Women don't have to be virtuous heroes to be great characters. They just have to make sense.
Cersei, Sansa and Brienne didn't make much sense this year, either. The smart, diabolical Queen Cersei turned into a spluttering mess in her final episode, which was a huge disservice to one of the series' best characters.
The Cersei who destroyed the Sept of Baelor would have had an exit strategy from The Red Keep during Dany's siege. The Cersei who almost committed suicide to save herself and her son from failure at the Blackwater never would have cried about dying in her brother/lover's arms. The Cersei who killed Robert Baratheon with a well-placed flask of wine would never have been dense enough to think her Lannister soldiers were so loyal and strong they'd defeat a dragon.
The Cersei we knew would have done more than stand still and stare off into the distance in her last hurrah. But the writers weren't interested in Cersei making sense. In Season 8, Cersei was a glorified roadblock to Dany's war crime. And so, in service of a hasty and ill-conceived plot, Cersei was dispatched as indiscriminately as she once eliminated her enemies.
In the middle of a race to the happy ever after finish line, the show somehow found time to get in one last turn of the screw when it came to the series' depiction of sexual violence. Sansa has been the woman abused most often over the years. The series drew its harshest criticism for the Season 5 storyline in which she married Ramsay Bolton and suffered repeated rape and torture at his hands.
To add insult to a very raw injury, in Episode 4 this season, Sansa expressed gratitude for her abuse, claiming it strengthened her. It's an offensive, inaccurate portrayal of trauma that undervalues Sansa as a character. But the writers had to justify that rape scene somehow, right? Sure, she got her own throne in the North in the end, but only after the lords of Westeros picked her robot brother to rule the other six kingdoms because he was the least objectionable man around.
The disservice done to Brienne is perhaps the most heartbreaking, considering her arc over the course of the series has been so strong, and Christie's performance so consistently brilliant. But the independent warrior spent most of the final season pining over a man, in a wild turn. Yes, it was nice to see Brienne's vulnerable side when she slept with Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), but the writers took it too far. She gets her dream job in the finale just like everyone else, now lord commander of the Kingsguard, but instead of writing her own history into the order's historical record, we see her update Jaime's. Brienne deserved better.
"Thrones" is just one big missed opportunity when it comes to women. George R.R. Martin's novels feature several complex and fascinating female characters, but many of the supporting women in the TV series have been completely wasted. The Sand Snakes were boring sex objects with whips instead of personalities. Yara (Gemma Whelan) popped up only when we need to be reminded that the Greyjoys exist. Fan-favorite Arianne Martell from the novels was cut out of the series entirely.
For 73 episodes and eight seasons, "Thrones" has credited just two women, Jane Espenson and Vanessa Taylor, as writers, with four episodes between them dating back to the show's first three seasons. Only one woman, Michelle MacLaren, has directed episodes (four of them), but not since 2014. It's painfully clear that "Thrones" was a series created by (and in large part written for) men.
Sunday's final episode was a mess for many reasons, but in particular it will be infamous for cementing the series' reputation for failing its women. We probably should have known "Thrones" would disappoint back in the very first episode, in which Drogo (Jason Momoa) raped his new wife Dany, which never happened in the books.
But as a TV series, the women are props for spectacle and shock just as much as the dragons and white walkers.

On the first day of the FITUR International Tourism Fair at Madrid, the Mojácar desk found itself extremely busy with the massive amount of people who came to see them on the Almería stand, all keen to look at the publicity and information that had been put together for this important tourism event. Emmanuel Agüero Leclerc, Mojácar’s Tourism Councillor, along with the Tourism Office staff and some of the town’s business people are at the Fair to meet the public and tour operators, with a tight schedule to keep to until the event closes on Sunday 27th January. As part of the opening day, Mojácar was honoured to receive the “Destino Más Top” award, organized by Cadena TV, which puts out 76 channels throughout Spain.  It was handed to the Tourism Councillor, who was especially appreciative and honoured to collect this award, as it is given to the best destination as voted by the viewers. There will also be the presentation of the SICTED tourist quality award, which is granted by the Secretary of State for Tourism. For  Mojácar, it is another renewal, as they achieved this standard some years ago, but are always revalidated successively. The Mojácar team have taken an immense amount of material to FITUR to hand out to the public and the tourism companies.  These include updated brochures along with maps and guides of the town with information on the unmissable spots to visit. They are also armed with copies of their "Mojácar Viva" and "Mojácar Unforgettable Memories" publicity, as well as the gift memorabilia people love to pick up such as Indalos, pens, diaries and notebooks. Located on the stand of Almería's Provincial Tourism Service, Mojácar experiences an increased show of interest every year. There is no doubt that besides being officially one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, it is also now one of the best known. The experienced staff team at the Municipal Tourist Office have the task of creating all the promotional materials about Mojácar, which guarantees a complete package of detailed information on everything that is on offer for visitors to the town.

49ers vs. Colts live score, updates, highlights from NFL ‘Sunday Night Football’ game
Tumblr media
Jimmy Garappolo is back for Sunday Night Football’s primetime matchup against the Colts.
The veteran quarterback returned to the 49ers practice this week after suffering a calf injury in Week 4. Rookie Trey Lance took over during the 17-10 loss to the Cardinals but suffered a knee sprain that would prevent him from starting in the Week 7 matchup.
Before exiting the field during the 49ers’ 28-21 loss to the Seahawks, Garoppolo totaled 925 passing yards with five touchdowns. He took advantage of the bye week following Lance’s start to effectively prepare for the start against the Colts.
MORE: Why isn’t Trey Lance playing?
Carson Wentz will look to extend the Colts winning streak on the road. While he totals 1,545 passing yards with nine touchdowns and one interception, Wentz will rely on the rushing game against the first-ranked defense in the league. Running back Jonathan Taylor has the chance to continue his hot streak after totaling 145 yards and two touchdowns against the Texans.
The forecast for Sunday’s primetime matchup may have an effect on both teams’ passing. According to the National Weather Service, the matchup will take place during harsh conditions. While the area is under wind advisory until 8:00 p.m. PT, showers are expected with possible thunderstorms throughout the evening. Depending on the severity of the wind, both quarterbacks may struggle to make their targets.

From The Pastor’s Desk
New Post has been published on https://emmanuel-ucc.org/2020/10/04/from-the-pastors-desk-40/
From The Pastor’s Desk
Hello to October and to the faithful members and friends of Emmanuel UCC!
There are many times that I visit a very interesting website of a company that does church research.  It is aptly named Pew Research.  This website gives the latest trends on churches and church attendance and can be found at https://www.pewresearch.org.  My recent visit was stimulated by the newest trend of watching church services on line in this pandemic era.
My message to you is to not lose heart when we as a congregation count 19 to 23 people per service.  Many congregation members and those who are not members do watch our service which is televised every Sunday.  I even have a few folks watching from New Jersey.
So, wondering if remote viewing and worshipping will be the new trend, I did some unearthing with the help of Pew research. I would like to share with you what I have found:
One-third of U.S. adults have watched religious services online or on television in the past month, and a little over half of them – or 18% of all adults – say they began doing this for the first time during the coronavirus pandemic. Of course, if you’re worshipping remotely, you can’t hug the other members of your congregation or shake hands with your minister, priest, rabbi or imam. But you can wear whatever clothes you want, turn up (or down) the volume, forget about traffic in the parking lot, and easily check out that service you’ve heard about in a congregation across town or even across the country.
Whatever the reasons, lots of people like virtual worship. Nine out of 10 Americans who have watched services online or on TV in the past month say they are either “very” satisfied (54%) or “somewhat” satisfied (37%) with the experience; just 8% say they are “not too” or “not at all”  satisfied, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey conducted in mid-July.
So what does this bode for the future? By the time the COVID-19 pandemic has finally run its course, will Americans have lost the habit of going in person to a church, synagogue, temple or mosque? Some commentators have suggested that just as the pandemic has accelerated the trend toward shopping online and made Americans reliant on the internet for work, school, health and entertainment, so might many, if not all, varieties of religious experience move online in the 21st century.
But that’s not what the people who’ve been worshipping online see in their future. On the contrary, most U.S. adults overall say that when the pandemic is over, they expect to go back to attending religious services in person as often as they did before the coronavirus outbreak.
To be sure, a substantial share of Americans (43%) say they didn’t attend religious services in person before the pandemic struck and they don’t plan to start going to a church or other house of worship when it’s all over. But 42% of U.S. adults say they plan to resume going to religious services about as often as they did before the outbreak, while 10% say they will go more often than they used to, and just 5% anticipate going less often.
Similarly, a lot of Americans are not interested in virtual services: Two-thirds of U.S. adults say they have not watched religious services online or on TV in the past month. But of the one-third of U.S. adults who recently watched services online or on TV, relatively few (19% of this group, or 6% of all adults) say that once the pandemic is over, they intend to watch religious services more often than they did before it started.
Most online worshippers say that after COVID-19 has passed, they plan to revert to their pre-pandemic habits (18% of all adults) or watch online less often than they did before the outbreak (9%).
The forecast is even more striking if one looks just at regular attenders from pre-COVID times – the respondents who told us in a 2019 survey that they went to services at least once or twice a month. Of those congregational stalwarts, 92% expect that when the pandemic is fully behind us, they will attend physical services at least as often as they did in the past. This includes 10% who say they will also watch online or on TV more than in the past.
Of course, it is impossible to predict how behavior will actually change after the pandemic, particularly if it extends further into the future than people expect. But, at the moment at least, very few U.S. adults anticipate substituting virtual participation for physical attendance at their church or other house of worship: Just 2% of the pre-pandemic regular attenders think that in the long run they will watch services online or on TV more often – and attend in person less often – than they used to.
Well…that’s a lot of numbers and percentages! I personally find it interesting, and I hope y0u do also. It’s a very sterile way of approaching the question of attending worship, yet, we are presented with the most up to date facts.
Once more I say, do not lose heart! The pandemic is temporary.  We have managed to navigate waters that were deeper and more turbulent than these as a church and a society. Emmanuel UCC must continue to move forward with worship and of course the business end of the church.  As your minister, know that I will continue to upkeep the tradition we have of fruitful worship and outreach to the people of our church and the community. In Christian love,

T.B. Joshua: Coronavirus bringing hard times, people will move Down to Villages
Tumblr media
Prophet T.B. Joshua, founder of the Synagogue of All Nations, said God revealed to him that hard times will follow immediately after the coronavirus lockdown.
He therefore advised everyone to cut his coat according to his cloth.
He said to survive, some Nigerians may have to “withdraw from the city to a rural life” or sell their properties.
Joshua spoke during a virtual service on Emmanuel TV on Sunday.
He said those who adjust to the new condition of things will be able to overcome.
Those who fail to do so may “go down with the times, either by disappointment, failure, death”.
But he urged people not to give up.
“Sometimes God allows situations like this – I mean disappointment or something more serious – so that you can take your proper position and possessions.
“Ask your family members to cut their coat according to their cloth.
“If any of them was living big before, they have to prepare to adjust now to the situation that is coming.
“Check your store and bring out the things you may need to sell.
“Right now, you need to be living modestly.
“Something must happen every 100 years to affect the whole world.
“This is what has happened in our own lifetime. It has been like that for generations.
“Those who respond to the demands of the age will end up as overcomers, victors, winners.
“However, those who fail to respond to the demands appropriately will eventually go down with the times, either by disappointment, failure, or death.
” It is unchangeable; it must happen.”
According to him, the prophecy will begin to manifest from June.
“By the end of June to the first week of July, this will begin to become a point of reference: ‘This man said this; that man said it’ but it is God that said it,” Joshua added.

Cold Shoulder.
INVOLVED: Mercedes Wright, Hope Wright, Faith Wright, Barbra Jones, William Jones, Ari Jones, Gabriel Jones, Daniel Jones, Natalie Jones-Perry, & Jones’ Grand Kids.   TIME FRAME: Sunday, August 27th, 2017. LOCATION: Jones’ Family Home; Houston, Texas. NOTES: Mercedes goes to her parent’s for Sunday dinner as promised.
Mercedes stood before the door of her parent’s home and she rang the doorbell as she waited for someone to answer. The front yard was filled with cars, the entire family had to be over for Sunday dinner. Luckily, her husband was still at the church dwindling behind the few people Mercedes left him there with. She hadn’t been to church in so long she almost forgot how much she put up with when she did go. Looking down at Faith, and her new doll she squinted lightly thinking about Samuel before her mother swung the door open and squealed out happily to see the three of them.
“Mercedes!” Barbra said as she wrapped the older girl up in her arms hugging her tightly. “Oh, how I have missed seeing you over for Sunday dinner” she said pulling back and pinching her cheeks tightly. “Don’t you ever let it happen again” she said giving her a knowing look. She moved aside to let Mercedes in before she leaned down and hugged her two granddaughters. Lifting Faith up off of her feet she pecked the younger grandchild carrying her in. “Love the dress” she said complimenting her daughter.
“Oh thanks” Mercedes said looking down at herself, “something that had just been sitting in the back of the closet for a while” she said honestly as she smoothed her hands over the skirt.
“Love it!” she said patting her shoulder “not the shoes though” Barbra said as she walked through the large house towards the living room.
Mercedes watched her mother walk off and she tucked her lips in, the woman could be so critical in the way she dealt with them all. But after thirty-three years, Mercedes was used to it. She continued to watch the woman as she disappeared in the large house, her oldest daughter following suit. She inhaled sharply, preparing herself for the endless waves of bodies as she moved towards the living room herself. She heard “Mercedes” being called out in unison and she smiled “hello family” she greeted as she found a spot to place her purse.
“It’s about darn time you showed up around here. I was starting to think you had a bone to pick with us” William said. The older guy looked to her and he watched her sit her purse aside, his hands in his pockets. “Church service was great, that man gets better by the day” he commented.
Mercedes looked to her father, she raised a brow at him before she nodded “dad, what ever could I have a bone to pick about?” she engaged him, smartly. “Life gets busy, schools back in” she said, lying through her teeth as she moved towards him arms spread wide for a hug. “He’s alright…. He isn’t William Jones” she replied back to him, with a smirk.
William looked to her as she walked up to him, holding her arms out for a hug. He hugged her despite his disdain. Squeezing her slightly, he chuckled at her rebuttal and shook his head “you might be on to something there” the retired Bishop said as he looked to Hope. “No hug for Pop-Pop?” he asked her.
Her comment bought him out of the obvious attitude he had with her, for now. It worked in her favor, she licked her lips watching Hope as she moved towards her father and she walked away moving towards the couch, Mercedes sat down beside her younger sister and smirked. “I hate you for this” she mumbled.
Ari looked to Mercedes crossing her swollen ankles as she did, she looked straight ahead chuckling lightly at her comment. “Do you want them in your business or not?” she asked her. “In order to keep them out of your business you have to come around. If you stay away they are going to assume something is wrong” she told her truthfully.
“There is something wrong” Mercedes said turning to her slightly.
Ari looked to her “then why are you still there?” she said through partly closed lips.
Mercedes looked away from “because your stupid ass sister confronted me and told me to stay” she replied back to her fire in her eyes. She hadn’t told Ari but she was pissed that she had told their older sister, Natalie about her situation. She wished she would have come to her about it, instead of spreading her business. And of all the people in the World, to Natalie – the wicked witch of the west. Mercedes looked to Natalie sitting across the room with her husband in toe, and she rolled her eyes back to Ari.
Ari turned to Mercedes a bit as well as she spoke and she ran her hands through her hair “look I called her and told her what happened. Because I didn’t know what to do. I am the baby of the family Mercedes. I wanted someone to tell me what to do or to help you or something….” She said shaking her head. “I couldn’t do anything myself, not like this” she told her gesturing her pregnant stomach. “I didn’t know she told you to stay though. Why in the hell would you do that? And why would you listen to her anyway… her marriage ain’t shit” she said to her sister seriously, shaking her head.
Mercedes listened to Ari picking at the fabric on the sofa before her last statement and Mercedes fell into a fit of laughter loudly.
Ari tried to shush Mercedes before she too started laughing at her own comment, she didn’t think about it before but after doing so she couldn’t help herself.
“What’s so funny?” Daniel asked as he moved to sit down on the couch with Mercedes and Ari, pushing Mercedes over into the middle as he did.
“Excuse you” Ari said to her older brother, shaking her head at him as she stopped laughing. “Nothing, or none of your business rather” she said with a smirk.
Mercedes looked to Daniel “oh the golden child. Who was smart enough to at least get out of Houston so that he doesn’t have to be a part of the foolishness we go through” she said smugly as she looked to Ari.
Daniel rolled his eyes at both Ari and Mercedes, “you know, you two still get on my nerves ‘til this day. I was practically thanking God every day for Gabriel when he finally came. Oops or not” he said smartly as he got up and moved towards the bathroom.
“Oh please” Ari said as she chuckled at the older boy.
“Don’t do Gabriel. He wasn’t an oops” she replied back to the boy. “He was a mistake… there’s a damn difference” Mercedes said before she began to laugh again.
Ari looked to Mercedes and she snorted loudly.
“Where is he? Considering he begged me to come over here today” Mercedes added as she licked her lips settling down on the couch again.
“Went to the store for your mother. Because though she cooks every Sunday, black people can’t ever seem to have everything they need to supply a meal, already on hand” Ari said shaking her head as she looked back to the tv.
“Oh God, I am going to be here all day and lord knows. I don’t want or need that” Mercedes said shaking her head, sighing as she rested her head back on the seat. Standing up again Mercedes moved towards the kitchen and looked to her youngest child sitting at the kitchen table eating a cup of applesauce. “You know something like that could ruin her dinner” she said to her mother as she stood against the island her hands resting on it.
Barbra looked back to Mercedes, she smirked before she turned back around. Out of all of her five children, Mercedes was always the child that came into the kitchen with her and kept her company while she cooked them dinner. It was a small gesture, but she loved that about Mercedes. She clung to her and it brought her great warmth and pride. “Well, that’s okay…” she said simply “she’s a good little girl. Isn’t that right Faith?” she said looking over at the child chuckling as she nodded her head with a spoonful of applesauce in her mouth.
Mercedes looked Faith and then her mother before she said, “I want to talk to you about something” she said seriously looking to her mother’s back.
Barbra turned around and sat her spoon down after stirring her greens, she looked to Mercedes. “I already know” she said wiping her hands off on a towel.
Mercedes furrowed her brows “know what?” she asked her as she tilted her head.
“About you and Donovan. About it all. I overheard your brother talking to Ari the other day. You were wrong for what you did Mercedes. You can’t push a man like that, or you get exactly what he did. We can’t feel sorry for you if you want to parade around Texas like a slut rather a Southern Bell. You were raised better than that” Barbra told her tossing the towel down as she moved to find another pan in her cabinets.
Mercedes looked to her mother as she spoke and her chin sunk in surprise at her mother’s words. She knew her family would go against her, that’s just what they did. But she was shocked to see all of the blame be put on her and no one even acknowledge Donovan’s part in it all. As her mother walked away from her she said, “he hit me momma” plain and simple, straight to the point.
“I know” Barbra said nodding her head and she moved to place rolls on the sheet pan. She aligned the rolls one at a time before she said “you provoked it with what you did. What the hell were you thinking?” she cursed turning back around. She looked to Faith before she said, “here baby, wipe your mouth and go out there with the rest of the kids” she told her. Moving to clean up the applesauce container and the dirty spoon. She grabbed the napkin back from her as well before she watched her walk away. “Emmanuel out of all people? He has been nothing but trouble since the day you met him” she rushed out angrily. “You need to think, you aren’t thirteen anymore Mercedes. You are thirty” she said.
“What about what he does and what he doesn’t do?” Mercedes argued, at this point she could care less if her children witnessed anything at all. She was tired of people talking at her and not listening to her. “Are you even listening to yourself. You are perfectly fine with a grown man beating on your daughter as long as it’s her fault? And she provoked it? What does that even mean?” she asked her loudly. “You are insane!” she snapped.
“Lower your tone” Barbra said looking to her “I said exactly what I meant. It’s your fault. You always have something to prove Mercedes. You could never just be a normal child. Abide by the rules and do as we say. You have to make life hard for yourself and for what Mercedes, it could all be so simple” she added. “Be his wife, that’s all people are asking you to do…”
“What is it that I have never done that you wanted me to do?” Mercedes asked next shifting on her heels. By this time the tv was off in the living room and everyone was making their way to the kitchen to listen on. “What don’t I do that you and daddy want me to?” she asked again. “I have to be the preacher’s wife, I have to be the good daughter, the housewife” she listed. “Everything has to go your way and his way, there is no other way. So how in the hell can you sit in my face and tell me that I have no sat here and wasted ten years of my fucking life doing what you wanted me to do” Mercedes asked pointing to her angrily.
Barbra turned her nose up at Mercedes and she rolled her eyes “drama queen” she commented. “Such a cry baby, you have always been. Get off your soapbox Mercedes life can’t be as hard as you make it seem” she said talking over her. She moved back to her dinner rolls placing them in the oven and slamming the door shut as she did. “All your father and I have ever wanted was the best for all five of you” she said loudly enough to over talk Mercedes. At Mercedes finally words she squinted at her moving towards her “don’t ever stand in my house and curse at me like that” she told her.
“Don’t roll up on me” Mercedes said shaking her head “don’t walk up on me, cause baby…. You aren’t going to like the results” she said to her as she balled her fist tightly.
Barbra looked the girl over with her eyes, she squinted one eye slightly as she walked up to her gazing at her in her face. “I wish you would…” she challenged.
“Okay, enough. Enough” William said moving between Mercedes and Barbra. “What is going on in here, have you two both lost your minds it?” he asked them both. “Mercedes that is you mother” he said looking down at her. “Barbra, you need to calm down. Doing this in front of all these kids like that. It’s Sunday” he said sternly.
Mercedes looked to father before she walked away slowly, she moved out of the kitchen pushing past Natalie and Daniel. “Hope, Faith get your things!” she yelled as she moved back towards her purse picking it up.
“I think we should just talk about this” Ari said quietly as she walked into the living room with Mercedes her hands on her lower back. “Mercedes…” she said as she watched her nieces grab their things.
“Fuck this family” Mercedes said as she grabbed Faith’s doll.
“Excuse me?” William said angrily as he looked to his daughter.
Ari hissed slightly at Mercedes comment and as he father walked into the room she backed up slightly.
“I am sick and I am got damn tired” Mercedes said looking to her father. “I am not a child, you nor the woman you married get to dictate to me who and who not to sleep with. What and what not to do. And anything else down to my children socks to what lightbulbs I use in my house” she said heated beyond belief. “It’s enough. I am done” she told her father.
William looked to Mercedes and his nostrils flared at the young girl, “don’t talk to me like that” he warned her.
Mercedes sucked her teeth as she grabbed Faith’s hand and moved past her father boldly “let’s go Hope” she said moving towards the door as she did.
“You aren’t allowed back over here, until you get some sense about yourself. You hear me” William yelled as Mercedes walked towards the door. “Not gonna disrespect us” he said with authority.
Mercedes looked to her father, she smirked nodding her head “no problem” she said as she opened the door letting the girls walk out before she did.
Gabriel looked to Mercedes walking up to the house, “where are you going?” he asked her confused.
“Home, I told you I didn’t want to come over here and I meant that Gabe” Mercedes said to the twenty-year-old. Her brother meant well and he had a thing for having the family all together but honestly, she couldn’t stand the people most days and she only talked to Ari and him anyway.
“What happened?” Gabriel asked her, he had been gone for maybe thirty minutes. He couldn’t believe something happened that quickly, he held the grocery bags in his hand as he looked back to the front door seeing his father standing there.
“In the house Gabriel and don’t make me repeat myself boy” William said as he watched Mercedes leave.
Mercedes looked back to William then she looked to Gabriel, “text me” she told the young boy before she walked away headed for her car.
Gabriel looked to his father and then his sister, sighing he nodded before he walked towards the front door sighing again.
