Hob had NOTHING to do with the fact that he and Dream suddenly had an adorable baby boy with skin as white as snow, hair black as night, eyes the blue of a winter sky and lips as red as blood.

Just because he was Prince Consort to the King of Dreams and had somehow gained some kind of access to the power of the Dreaming... and Hob was definitely not reading about old fairy tales, the childless couple wishing desperately for a little one and finding babies under rapunzel patches.

NOPE. NOT. HOB'S. FAULT.

(Dream had simply cuddled the little one close, said that he had Hob's smile and said that their child's name was Oliver.)

I'm rewatching The Sandman, and when I got to episode 2 I realized I had almost forgotten how creepy Dream's reflection in the waters on the outskirts of the Dreaming becomes.

I guess it's meant to represent Dream as he appears in the comics - gaunt, with bone-white skin, unruly mane of dark hair, night-black eyes with a star in them - but the face staring back at Dream also has something wild, vicious, hungry and almost predatory in it, and the way the reflection snatches him and pulls him under, like a crocodile its prey, it's chilling.

I know that Dream shapes terrifying, cruel nightmares as well as dreams, and that each of those carries some part of him within themselves, but that scene feels especially unsettling because, well, it's him, his own reflection, behaving that way. It feels... more personal.

I don't even know what those waters are meant to represent, I'm not that familiar with the comics. Are they, I dunno, the foundation upon which Dream's kingdom is built, the abyss from which the ordered cosmos of the Dreaming proper was drawn? The Dreaming in its most fundamental state? Some sort of primordial sea of dreams, or sea of the Dreaming, chaotic and shapeless, a bit like the Mesopotamic Tiamat, or the kháos in Greek creation myths?

But since Dream is, well, the anthropomorphic personification of dreams themselves , this abyss is also Dream himself, so of course the face that looks back at him from those waters is his own, but it looks scary because this is where the most chaotic, disordered and irrational parts of him reside?

As if Dream is both the hero-god who slays the primordial water monster to fashion the world out of their flesh and blood, and also the monster that is being slain?

I have no idea, but oh my, that is probably one of the most disturbing scenes in the whole series to me...

EDEN: IT'S AN ENDLESS WORLD

Hob is an interior designer for the ultra rich; he moves furniture around to lighten "engeries" and increase "flow". It's a hodgepodge of bastardized fung shui and geometry, because Hob is a conman. And thief.

His interior design persona and "firm" was a cover Hob was using to case some rich asshole's house. Hob wasn't even trying to sell the bit really, he moved a single chair, but after the job (this guy was obliviously so rich that he hasn't seemed to notice Hob's theft 🤷🏽‍♀️) Hob's mark recommended him to his other rich douche friends.

So high-end interior design is now Hob's side hustle. He's still a thief and conman, but now he's legally (sort of) conning marks. Hob is just as surprised as you.

He has just been hired to design the new bachelor pad for one Dream Endless - artist, socialite, philanthropist. If the name sounds familiar, it's because he just had an amazingly loud divorce play out in the press from partner no. 3 (there were two other marriages and one kidlet, for Mr. Endless). And it seems like the ex got all the friends and support in the divorce.

Hob was hired by some assistant, a Matthew, so he's yet to meet Mr. Endless, but if the various paparazzi photos are right, he should certainly be nice to look at.

Yeah, those paparazzi photos did not do him justice -- watching Dream swim in little tiny speedos is Hob's new religion. If Hob were a better man, he wouldn't be scheming to become Mr. Endless the 4th.

Mr Endless the 4th... and hopefully the last. I reckon Hob will want to stick around! I am absolutely tickled by this au, tbh. I think Hob needs to keep on scamming rich people and stealing their furniture as much as he wants.

Dream's requests for the design were basically "I want it all to be black" and also "leave me alone when I'm doing my art" - two things that Hob is a little bit disappointed about. He doesn't really care about interior design, but all black? Minimalism? Dream deserves better. And Hob definitely doesn't want to leave him alone! But if he can at least watch Dream, that's good enough for now.

He makes a few adjustments to what Dream requested. There's plenty of black, sure, but there's also stained glass and light streaming into the apartment. There's beautiful stone flooring in the kitchen (heated, of course). Hob gets the most amazing four poster bed for his new favourite client, all silk sheets and black-out curtains. He spends all day dreaming about making sweet love to Mr Endless in between those sheets.

And Dream seems to be getting used to having Hob around. Plus he begrudgingly approves of his design choices. Eventually he opens up about his miserable dating life, and Hob is always so sympathetic. He doesn't lay it on too thick (Dream is smart enough to spot a gold-digger!), he's just kind. Is Dream really making him into a better person?!

Well, maybe not. Hob is still a thief, and he's definitely still scamming his clients with the whole "vibrations" thing. He's also definitely perving on Mr Endess in the swimming pool. But when Dream does finally make a move and shyly kisses Hob while inspecting the latest updates to the interior design... Hob takes him to bed very gently. He lays Dream out on the silky sheets and fucks him so sweetly, so lovingly, telling him how worthy and beautiful he is. Things that Dream has never heard before.

Hob settles into the bed when Dream falls asleep on him afterwards - and rest assured, he intends to stay. Hopefully with a ring on his finger. But he's not getting ahead of himself, don't you worry.

However, Hob think that Dream is a random weird immortal human (he doesn't know his name !?! Like did that guy lived without him for years !?! How does a human even survive without Hope ?!?). He thinks that his stranger is neglected by every endless (living without Death Gift, a life without sleep and dream, even Delirium doesn't seem to give him the grace of going crazy,… even Hope negleted him without knowing it) meanwhile Dream know who Hob is and he says to him " You want to make me happy and hopeful ? lol yeah. Well I will make you bring me doom"

Just Hob & Dream being like : I'm going to prove you wrong >:)

and of course it ends with

Dream : FUCK, YOU MAKE ME HAPPY

Hob : FUCK FUCK FUCK I FELL IN LOVE WITH A HUMAN. I WILL BRING HIM DOOM

*cut scene to D Endless (aka the children of Time and Night) and H Endess (aka the children of Light and Gravity) meetings that Hob avoided for… well forever exept this time because Death managed to drag him there*

Dream : nope.

Hob :

lando lives rent free in so many people's heads in this fandom that i'm honestly embarrassed for them. like i'm not even particularly a fan of his, i like him well okay but he's not one of my faves, but he really isn't any better or worse than any other driver. it's like they've built up this mythical version of him in their minds where he is this awful person/terrible teammate/overrated driver or whatever and every time he proves them wrong their parasocial hatred of him grows and it's become this endess cycle. as someone who's kinda neutral on him it's a fascinating phenomenon to watch. like seriously people go outside and get some air and concentrate on just supporting the drivers you like.

Like understood cause I'm a Ferrari fan (sufferer) more than a McLaren girlie but the lando hate is so outta nowhere (he's about the same like you said, and even ranked higher with principles ranking than hamilton/leclerc 👀 and drivers ranking over both Ferrari's 👀👀(😭)) plus he has done basically nothing besides be silly and goofy, oscar/danny/ carlos have said nothing against him as a teammate to my knowledge

Unpopular opinion but I really, really HATE the idea that Dream somehow "deserved a timeout" in the fishbowl.

NO.

Okay, Dream has done some shitty things but this is like justifying abuse in the worst way and victim blaming to boot. It may have also added to his suicidal behavior, that he DESERVED to be there, because of what he did to Nada, for being so supremely unlovable that he'd gone and fucked up all of his romantic relationships, to say nothing of what happened between him and his son.

It also led to Jessamy's death and she absolutely did not deserve that.

Even at his worst in the comics, Dream isn't a complete flaming garbage trashbin, which is why I love him so much. Death was the one who TALKED to him. He CAN listen and he DOES rectify his mistakes. And he did, indeed, made things right with Nada.

There were absolutely plenty of BETTER ways to sit Dream down, get him to calm his tits, and realize he's fucked up. And in Overture, we learn it WAS NOT his first time to be trapped/imprisoned and the one person who DID come to help had a really bad history of messing with Dream's head. So was it any wonder that he could not trust in that at all?

So, yeah, this is also why Desire pisses me off. I don't think I can ever forgive them for the part they played in Dream's eventual death.

It is just absolutely bleak and tragic that Dream, our Morpheus, chooses to die instead of living, just becuase he is in so much pain that he can't hold on to any hope or move forward.

I know this is going to sound like a weird take but sometimes The Sandman feels like the horror equivalent of a muppet movie. Several of the characters are actually old horror anthology hosts slightly modified or playing a part or even not changed at all. These horror hosts are the muppets and poor Morpheus is the human. The three witches (Hecateae)

Destiny (of The Endess) Cain with The House of Mystery and Gregory the Gargoyle Abel and his House of Secrets Eve AKA The Raven Woman Mad Mod Witch (Fashion Thing) Lucien (Lucienne in The Sandman Netflix series) They were all former horror hosts. These are the "muppets." The Sandman is a horror host muppet movie.

Werner Herzog's Sad Beige Ryan

Whilst it's great to see the occasional photos of Ryan Ross out and about, I regret to report that the Sad Beige Aesthetic Overlords have gotten to him, too.

Ryan used to be known for his constantly changing but always quirky and individualistic style. But in every single photo of him we've seen in the last few years, he's leaning into sad beige.

He went so far into sad beige, he started doing hair to match.

To everyone who made fun of his paisleys: LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE. I HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY NOW.

Maybe Ryan has simply picked a single style, to avoid decision making fatigue while focusing on his creative pursuits. Maybe he's making a deliberate statement on how men's fashion choices are perceived. (Maybe someone stole all his clothes again?)

But when I see the endess practical neutrals he's sported in recent years, all I can think of is Ryan as one of Werner Herzog's Sad Beige Children.

Please bring back...any other look. All is forgiven. (Well, maybe not the toothpaste hair).

(I'm well aware Ryan is now in his late 30s, is entitled to wear whatever he likes, and I hope he's living his best life. This post is in good hearted jest)

Dear folks in the UK and Australia,

Yes, we Americans realize you tightened gun laws after mass shootings. That's wonderful. I fully support this - there, and here in the US. I have been an advocate for gun control for as long as I can remember.

One of the first of this modern school shootings happened in the city where I live.

Please - please - realize bringing up your own laws and control measures and what preceded them every time this happens... does not help. Really. We know. We know, and we either grit our teeth because we've been trying our damndest to do similar here for years, and you bringing it up is nothing but salt in endess wounds, or... it's the people who aren't going to care, any more than they care about children getting gunned down in their own classrooms, who are rolling their eyes every time it's mentioned.

All you're doing at this point is coming across as having a smug superiority complex. It isn't bringing back any of those killed. It isn't going to magically change US laws to remind us. Again.

And again.
