Covid, Cities & Typologies (Enduring Spaces) Pre-Covid: Image 1: Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos Island. 2019. Covid: Image 2: Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish, Ikot Ansa, Calabar. June 2020. Typology: Religious It would have been easy to think the image of the Holy Cross Cathedral was made of a time when the engagement of Covid-19 protocols (such as social distancing) were required for religious spaces to resume activities in late 2020... By this time last year, churches in Nigeria were having a hard think on the possibility of celebrating Easter, during the first wave of the pandemic in the country and early in the nationwide lockdown. How has the pandemic changed the way you use religious spaces since the lockdown? #everydaybuildings #documentinglagosarchitecture #architecturephotographer #architecturalphotography #calabararchitecture #nigerianarchitecture #architectureinafrica #calabararchitecture #africanarchitecture #lagosarchitecture #everydayafrica #architecture #arquitectura #architettura #architektur #calabar #lagos #yení #covidcitiesandtypologies #enduringspaces #COVID19 (at Lagos, Nigeria) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNPnIgZlJvl/?igshid=3qksh35tpxe8

June 2019. Mariere Hall, University of Lagos. Two days after a car burnt down to crisp and the air smelt of ashes, right in front of the University's Senate building. A man washes his vehicle just by my right, in front of the male hostel. Mariere Hall holds far many memories to be mentioned here; memories of inadequate accommodation for students, squatting colleague turned friends. On this day, most likely off to photograph some other space, the brilliant light that morning struck Mariere Hall glorifying it far from what residents would agree is its 'true' nature. In this moment in time, or in these times, the hall is merely a shell. Without students wearing and tearing a mal-maintained building to its bare bones. No over spill from water tanks above 'toilet towers'. No damp toilet walls, or the sound of gushing water from water closets and bathrooms next to the road. And no cat-calling from burglar proofed balconies during sun sets. Only quiet. #enduringspaces #shareblackstories #everydaybuildings #architecturalphotography #architectureinafrica #everydayafrica #architecture #arquitectura #architettura #architektur #yení (at Lagos, Nigeria) https://www.instagram.com/p/CB_tUrqFJoK/?igshid=96difeuq1uta
