Also curious about your recommendations for relatively inexpensive starter cameras

lol there are so many factors and honestly, there are MANY solid cameras you can get for a decent price.

off the top of my head, i picked the Minolta Dimage 5. goes for like 10-25 on ebay. takes double A batteries (easy), and saves to Compact Flash (format still in use, easy to find, and if you are lucky or invest you can get some fast ones.)

i like the pictures it takes, it's super fun to use with the dslr style zoom on the lens barrel, and it was a "pro-sumer" model so it has all the bells and whistles but it's less bulky and simple to operate. I haven't been using mine much because I wanted to get one of the "newer" models (the 7, 7i or 7hi. lol camera model numbers) and my 7hi is kind of buggy? and I think I fucked up updating the firmware. don't ask.

this isn't the BEST option of the cameras I've used. I don't know what camera is. but it's affordable to get going, easy to use, and takes good pics! and having a compact flash card or two might come in handy when you get your next camera!

I tried searching like "what vintage digital camera to get" since I know they are all the rage and wanted to know what other people like. the one list I recall was entirely pro-sumer models that go for 200-300 still. that's completely unnecessary.

if you snatch one up on ebay, read the listing and look at the images. make sure they say it's tested and nothing looks broken. then lowball away. I'm staring at a listing right now with a "best offer" option priced at $25+ shipping. includes a memory card and I bet they'll take an offer of $10-$15. even still, not a bad price to get the camera and a card for $25. the card could be super small so be prepared to look for a bigger one. I think this camera can support up to 1-2gb cards.

also, I did a ton of reading when I should have been working and the "ladda" rechargeable batteries from ikea are highly recommended. they are a quarter the cost with like 98% the lifespan of an Eneloop. go with the ikea.

I get why it happened but I really do think we missed a trick when low(ish)-power consumer electronics switched from AA/AAA/C/D/CR2032/CR1616/LR44/whatever batteries to bespoke lithium packs and USB charging ports. Why couldn't we live in a world where interchangeable, rechargeable cells became dominant instead. (e.g. eneloops, etc.)

I don't wanna have to scour eBay and Amazon and so on looking for replacement parts when my devices stop holding a charge; I wanna get that shit from the grocery store.

We received the "AR / BEST of Entertainment & Events" award at Google AR & VR's #GooglesImmersiveChallenge for our immersive audio AR project, developed alongside Creative Technologist Koki Ibukuro!

Starting around spring 2020, with reduced human interaction due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Koki Ibukuro and I were drawn to the potential of AR. We began experimenting and it's incredibly gratifying to see this project recognized worldwide.

We submitted this project under the name "<World Ensemble>". The journey to this point was filled with twists and turns, and the process was immensely exciting and enjoyable.

二人で2020年春頃から、新型コロナウイルスの流行により人との交流が減少し、ARの可能性に魅力を感じ、実験をスタート。今回のプロジェクトが、世界で評価されたのはとても嬉しいです。

<世界と合奏する>という名前で、今回提出しました。

そこに至る経緯が右往左往あって、プロセスがとてもエキサイティングで楽しかったです。

下記は、応募にあたり考えていた文章の一部です。

<Inspiration>

音や音楽の物理的な制約について調査しているうちに、AR（拡張現実）の空間を活用して新しい体験が可能かもしれないというアイデアが浮かびました。具体的には、街の中に仮想的な音のオブジェクトをARの技術を使って配置し、その中で動的に音楽を聴くことで、従来のステレオの枠を超えた新しい認識や体験が生まれるのではないかと考えました。 <What it does> 音をARで好きな場所に配置して、現実の制約を超えた新しい音楽体験を作る実験です。

<What we learned>

ARの表現効果によって、見慣れた風景や建物が楽器に変わり、自分と合奏しているような印象を受けました。同時に、日常的な視覚や聴覚の中にある様々な制約を改めて感じました。視覚的には、個々の身体的特徴による遠近感の限界を感じました。聴覚的には、楽器や音響機器と身体との関係から生まれる音の振動の尊さを再認識することができました。 硬めの文章ですが、開発にあたり様々な問いを感じる事が出来ました！ 自分としての問題意識や根底にあるテーマはずっと繋がっていて、2009年にリリースしたRoute Music " Tokyo "の考え方を更新し、訂正し続けています。 この作品がBERVATRAに繋がり、今のソロでのライブスタイルにも繋がっていきます。 Route Musicは独自のリアルタイムサンプリングシステムを作り、都市とセッションするというコンセプトで、バイノーラルレコーディングを入り口に、東京を移動しながら音をリアルタイムでサンプリングし加工編集を行いました。

全て電池駆動のシステム構成だったので、大量の電池の山になり当時新発売されていたENELOOPにお世話になりました。

It makes sense for me, because I have photographic equipment which often still relies on AA's for flashes, transmitters, etc. which you can burn through in a single afternoon, plus my VR controllers. Since I use them for that I may as well use them for everything. If your only batteries are like, remotes, mice, keyboards, alkaline is probably not much worse and maybe better.

I think it's cheaper than alkaline if you can get 3-4 cycles out of it which I almost always well exceed, Ikea rebrands high end eneloops at low cost so that's a good source of high quality cheap ones. There's convenience. Being able to just throw your dead cells in a charger rather than going out is worth something to me.

Retrofitting things to take LiPo/LiFePo4 is nice and works well if it takes 2xAA/A, but is otherwise kind of a pain in the ass. There's those really funny Lithium AA's with built in charging circuits, buck converters, and USB ports for charging, which I think would be another option for mice and keyboards if you really value convenience over all else. Just take it out and plug it in to your phone charger for a few minutes and then carry on.

You can rescue many seemingly-dead 0V NiMH batteries by hitting them with 1.5V for half a minute and then quickly jamming them into a charger, which will then take over. The one way to do this is just using another working NiMH battery but you can also use your oscilloscope's signal generator as- wait I was going to say "the most expensive DC power supply you've ever had" but this oscilloscope was actually so cheap it's cheaper than my old DC power supply. Which admittedly could deliver like 400W but the point stands.

Me 🇵🇭: Mmmmm! These trio of Mickey D's we're pretty damn good! I've already tried these three meals 🍔🍟🍦😋, with the "Quarter Pounder" was so juicy as the "Big Mac" (which I also tried that, too) before! And you know what, I remember ordering two Quarter Pounders at the McDo 🇵🇭 for the price of one! 🍔🍔😋 His purchasing Duracell batteries for his XBOX ONE controller, on the other hand, sounds a decent choice. However, he should it buy a long-lasting "Rechargeable" batteries (like my "Eneloop"), instead. Just saying. 🔋🎮😊 Nonetheless, I could imagined that I'm playing XBOX games with him, while we're munching our Mickey D's! Yum-yum! 😁
