💜 Bookstack For A Cause 💜 November is National Epilepsy Awareness Month and I'm sharing a purple stack for @my.little.book.nook 💜 Go check out her post for her personal experience with epilepsy. From now to the end of November, for every purple stack she is tagged in with the hashtag #purplestackforepilepsy, she will donate $1 to the Epilepsy Foundation up to $ 100. I'm sharing the following from @my.little.book.nook 💜 Here are some quick facts for you from the Epilepsy Foundation Website💜 💜65 million people in the world have epilepsy, 3.4 million of them are in the US. 💜Epilepsy is a neurological condition that affects the nervous system. 💜People with epilepsy have seizures, which are in the simplest terms described as unexpected "electrical storms" in the brain. 💜Seizures in epilepsy may be related to a brain injury, genetics, immune, brain structure or metabolic cause, but most of the time the cause is unknown. 💜1 in 26 people will develop epilepsy in their lifetime. 💜60% of epilepsy cases are due to an unknown cause, and 1/3 of people living with uncontrollable seizures do so because current medications do not work for them. 💜Donations to the Epilepsy foundation go to supporting research and new therapies, education and nationwide programs for individuals and families, public awareness, advocacy, and more.💜 💜I'm tagging some peeps but if you're seeing this post, please consider taking part in the cause.💜 #epilepsyawareness #bookstack #purplebooks #epilepsyawarenessstack #epilepsyawarenessmonth #bookspines #november #purple #purpleaesthetic https://www.instagram.com/p/CHaQJZOAFZU/?igshid=1if5pt2zectzf

💜 Johanna @jojreads is inspiring us with a new stack challenge for epilepsy awareness. Until the end of March, she is encouraging us to share a purple stack of books and use the hashtag #epilepsyawarenessstack. She will donate $1 for every post tag with this hashtag. . Here are some facts from to Epilepsy Canada (https://www.epilepsy.ca/epilepsy-facts.html): 💜 Epilepsy is a physical condition characterized by sudden, brief changes in how the brain works. It is a symptom of a neurological disorder - a disorder that affects the brain and shows itself in the form of seizures. 💜 Epilepsy is a disorder, not a disease; it is not contagious. 💜 Approximately 0.6% of the Canadian population has epilepsy. This includes those who take anticonvulsant drugs or who had a seizure within the past 5 years. 💜 Due to the stigma surrounding epilepsy and the prejudice with which society has historically treated people with epilepsy, many with the disorder are reluctant to admit it or to seek treatment. Thus the prevalence of epilepsy is likely much higher. 💜 Each day in Canada, an average of 42 people learn that they have epilepsy. Each year an average of 15,500 people learn they have epilepsy; 44% are diagnosed before the age of 5, 55% before the age of 10, 75-85% before age 18 and 1% of children will have recurrent seizures before age 14. 1.3% are over the age of 60. This means that about 60% of new patients are young children and senior citizens. . 💜 Now it is your turn to get involved. Get your purple books out and participate in this awesome challenge to bring more awareness to epilepsy. . . #poodles #poodlestagram #poodlesofinstagram #furbabies #dogsofinstagram #bookstagram #dogsandbooks #bookishlife #bookishlove #bookstagrammer #book #books #booklover #bookish #bookaholic #reading #readersofinstagram #instaread #ilovebooks #bookishcanadians #canadianbookstagram #bookreviewer #bookcommunity #bibliophile #bookphotography #bookishchallenge #booksconnectus https://www.instagram.com/p/B9_6YkmAgYu/?igshid=1pqqdun0q8wzk
