Big Finale
Episode 1067+ talk below the cut.
Really like this sequence for Big Mom. She’s a great character and deserves her own post. As she looks onward towards the Flower Capital, the focus zooms in to Toko, happily enjoying some yummy cotton candy at this year’s Fire Festival.
Through Toko, we get a look at the simple joy Big Mom has always wanted, though could never truly reach, due to the influence of people like Streusen(you suck) and Kaido leading her astray. It’s a big aspect of what makes part of her story so tragic. Big Mom is someone who wasn’t able to reconcile with the parts of her past that she didn’t understand.
She doesn’t understand why Mother Caramel disappeared, doesn’t understand Roger’s intent in starting the Great Pirate Era, doesn’t understand her children’s discontent with the way she ran Totland back home. And she continued following down a destructive path as a result.
I adore that many of the scenes of her past which flash by involve sharing food with others, mostly characters she views in friendly terms. Through her meeting Tsuru, we see a glimpse at a “what if” of a Big Mom who could begin facing her past demons. Though circumstance didn’t allow it to last, as she was taken away from the mainland by one of Kaido’s crew, and to another former member of Rocks soon after/Kaido himself.
Similar to Kaido allowing himself to be captured by the Marines so many times in the past, hunger beats out desires like conquest or creating a country where everyone can sit at equal height around the table. Food was always one of Big Mom’s main motivators/vices.
As Kaido will soon follow, she is sent into the depths of the earth, depths which she would have plunged the entire world into, stealing its freedom in the process, should her conquest with Kaido have succeeded.
Just as her cries for Mother Caramel went unheard after her 6th birthday, no one can hear her cry of defeat here. Roger can’t hear her request to know why he lived the way he did, and her children can’t hear their leader asking for help. She fell, never getting to catch a glimpse of the joy Luffy will embody, as he challenges and breaks free from his own limitations.

The end of the big mom vs. Law and kidd fight is SO GOOD
Jesus I can’t stop freaking out about the animation!! It have such a big glow up in general since the star of onigashima, but I would do bad things to get the freeze frames for the 1060s episodes!!!!
The music, the colouring, the art style, THE ATTACKS. All of it is soooo good
And it’s amazing to see law and kidd awaken their powers, love that they’re getting more powerful as well. The biggest mom can go choke on a dick or something I guess
Love love love Yamato, yamabro you will forever stay in my heart
Law, my dear little homotron 3000, his feral smiles???? Amazing, showstopping, stunning.
Sadly, I don’t know the exact terms in English, but the colour changes???? Damn they were SO GOOD. Ugh I’m just in love with this new style

To the world, we give you The Surgeon Of Death
Everything about him is so endearing, the way he sits, the way he yells, the way he fights. Everything.
Look at him! He has really come so far, from a suffering hopeless boy with a garland of grenade around his neck to the man who saved two countries from further destruction and bloodshed.
Thank you Law, for continuing to live and not giving up when everything was stacked against you.
Hello Surgeon of Death,
I love him.
