my patreon suggestion thread
Since I'm gonna closeout my patreon, I wanted to take my suggestions thread and make it public for other CC creators to look over and consider for stuff to make! Some of this stuff has already been made by now but it would definitely be cool to see the rest. (i'm copy pasting each of these comments, thus weird wording possibly and repetition)
there's a lot of good ideas here and i'd hate for them to just be thanos snapped out of existence
I would be happy about proper gaiters or different types of bridles. the same about ultra long manes.
Dressage poses would be lovely!
Idk if that's possible, but maybe try to override the barrels with orange cones to make it a little less western?
Riding boots and spurs! Bridles, boots/bandages for horses, breastplates
Saddle-shaped numnahs (and just more numnahs in general)
Bridle racks with/without bridles
Halters (hung up, as acessories, different colours, with/without wool covers etc etc)
Saddle wall racks
Equine first aid box?
Feed and water buckets (large and small - the flexible tub ones that are mostly used nowadays)
Black feed bins
Wall salt licks
Filled hay nets (floor and wall option)
Turnout rugs and stable rugs, but hung up (I've currently just upsized the dressing gowns lol)
High-vis accessories
Hung-up high vis sim jackets?
Sim ankle riding boots
Feed supplement tubs (turmeric, garlic, etc) as decor and in simlish
I think barn clutter would be great, we got like three barn clutter items in the pack haha. I'm hoping to see other mane and tail styles and more CAS items showing up soon too!
Could you make an Australian Stock Saddle
maybe more saddle textures, and hitching posts
rugs/turnout blankets
helmet that doesn't remove hair
different style jumps
decor objects for goats like the platforms they would play on irl and low watering troughs. They gave us nothing for them :/
English riding clothes for show and practice
better polo wraps and sport boots
salt lick in a feed tub on the ground for out in the pasture
different functional horse ball toys
saddle and pad racks for the wall of a few different saddle styles
more standing saddle racks of different saddle styles
bridle rack
functional hay and water troughs in more modern styles
stacks of buckets
manure pile
items you'd find in a wash stall
more styles for mane and tail (a proper running braid for show would be nice)
more horse-obsessed BB and CAS for toddlers and children
Hairstyles, new English saddles (nice dressage and jumping saddles), saddle pads, track points, a slider to adjust the size of the horse would be cool too
random coat colors for foals and not looking exactly like their parents. I have no idea how you would fix this but it is my biggest annoyance in this game!
dressage saddles! new saddle pads!
realistic manes or turnout stuff
I love everything Western! I would love a few free-hanging western saddles/ bridles and also a saddle pad rack with only western pads! Maybe a few sponges/flyspray/shampoo bottles.
Perhaps leg wraps and english saddle pads that are matching? Like Lemieux and the sorts. Hanging horse blankets / horse racks that hold blankets. Vet objects, like syringes, creams, vetwraps and little objects for a first aid kit :)
please make a stable rug/ turn out rug/ riding rug :D
I though of something while i was sitting here building a jumping course. A little pile with poles neatly put together to place outside the arena on the ground for some esthetic purposes
I would love another short tail! :)
Ah and maybe those silly little horse mustaches lolol? :,D
Girth holders on walls, hanging rugs, bridle holders. Saddle soap / spray, conditioner :)
Maybe a halter for foals?
i know ive said this before but bridle hangers and saddle holders & maybe maxis match hay stacks so we don't have to pile it up ourselves with the debug hay bale and maybe more different swatches for the hay rug from the ranch pack? bc thats only 2 in 2 different colors
Stall doors please!
Western / Red Dead Redemption inspired tack and saddles
bell boots would be amazing!, and barn clutter, like helmets, gloves, english tall riding boots.
I'd love to see some foal accseries if you could figure that out, other then that rop halters are sorely lacking
I'd love to see a breastplate for the saddle and a double reined bridle

Can't make this shit up
For full context: as someone with a degree in equine science, the horse industry is remarkably small and found in specific locations. Back in the day, I put my information in with a horse-specific staffing agency, just to see what might come of it. In 2021, they headhunted me specifically for a breeding farm manager job in Nevada. The job, on paper, was exactly what I've always dreamed of doing. The pay was good, came with on site housing and housing for our horses, and the facilities were awesome at first glance. We sold our house, packed up our lives and our three horses, and moved across the country. And for a while, it was really good. The horses were cool on the whole, the people I worked with were very nice and supportive, and I was getting to do the things I love.
Unfortunately.
The farm owner is a very rich white woman with nothing to do all day but think about her horses, plan things for her mansion, doomsday prep, and fall deep into conspiracy theories. In the last year, she's gotten significantly worse. I am not talking about political conspiracy theories either. I'm talking "there is a group of people who control the weather, and they are making the climate change in order to starve everyone" and "everything that might have come from big pharma cannot be trusted but this thing I read about on the internet from three other wackadoodles is gonna save everyone's life" and "society is going to collapse soon and the only things that will have any value are shelf-stable foods and gold bars." (I only paraphrased the first two. That third one is nearly verbatim.)
It progressed to:
Lying about vaccinating the horses so that they are protected but she has no idea
Having to defend veterinarian prescribed pain management for a horse with a broken foot because she wanted us to use "all natural" pain management that would not have been anywhere near strong enough and could have resulted in life-threatening complications
Lying about most of the times we had to use antibiotics
Lying about when horses are sick and we had to institute quarantine protocols, just so she won't try to come up with an "all natural" treatment and stop us from doing what the vet said to do
Her pulling the free choice mineral blocks in favor of free choice feeding a mineral supplement that delivers more than the daily recommended amount of selenium in each ounce (so free choice means an adult horse could eat up to 8x the recommended amount of selenium per day. Chronic selenium toxicity causes hair and hoof sloughing. Acute selenium toxicity causes neurological damage and death. And we have babies on the farm who could easily eat enough of the minerals to cause serious harm including death)
Her insisting we treat sick horses by feeding them colloidal silver and developing a protocol to give them regular colloidal silver to "prevent infections" (Colloidal silver is great at topical wound treatment but is toxic to eat, as silver is a heavy metal that the body can't process very well. It can build up and cause organ damage)
Her buying boxes of Borax for everyone to eat because she read that it can prevent rheumatoid arthritis and cancer (Please google if Borax is safe to eat so you can also be horrified that she's literally encouraging us to poison ourselves)
I was already looking to get out during the selenium and colloidal silver situations, but the Borax was very much the final straw. However, we lived on site. Our housing, and the horses' housing, was dependent on my job.
So we did the only thing we could do - we bought a house and moved ourselves and the horses there as fast as possible. I thought I might be able to stick out working there while job hunting, but boy could I not. Because I spoke out against, y'know, poisoning animals and people, I was being shut out of everything except the day to day tasks, not being able to make decisions or even being consulted about anything. Also, because I have always drawn my work-life boundaries very firmly, and my coworkers did not, they kept getting voluntold to do things in their off time - creating resentment. It was obvious that if they could manage to sucker someone else in to replace me, I'd be fired.
So. We're safe. We have a lovely little house. The horses are safe. Nadra is still at training (for now), and the three boys are here with us. But we did have to spend a lot of our savings getting here, and now I am between jobs.
And so I come to you, tumblr, if anyone is listening - I have this little etsy shop where I sell stuff I make: https://littlehorsedesigns.etsy.com
You can find jewelry, decorative horseshoes, and horse halters there right now. Coming soon: dice bags inspired by Critical Role! Other yarn crafts!
It would mean the world to me if you could share this, also if you see something you like and wanted to buy it! Or if you see something you like but want a custom version, let me know!

❄️ Snowday! ❄️
8 inches was the prediction, but up here on the mountain it’s closer to a fresh foot. Everyone got some loose hay for a treat. They have a total of four 800lb bales in slow feeder netting out in their living space right now, but I still like to give them a snowday treat. It’s a lot of work to climb thru this fresh snow!
People ask us a lot of questions about feeding 24/7 forage like this - mainly, how do you manage different metabolic needs? Our stallion, Öngull, tends to be on the thinner side. A couple of our other horses (cough VIGRI cough) tend more towards chubbiness.
Here’s the thing. Restricting access to forage actually makes obesity worse in horses, because it causes blood sugar spikes and crashes. That’s the root of dangerous obesity in equines - the kind that causes inflammatory problems like laminitis.
Feeding quality forage at all times, in slow-feeder systems, allows blood sugar to regulate. This means that the horses with slower metabolisms and faster metabolisms alike benefit from not being constantly in flux.
They DO learn to self-regulate, also, and will take breaks from eating to play and rest. But horses are designed to spend most of the day eating. That’s where the slow-feeders come in very handy. The slow-feeder netting also prevents them from trampling the bales and wasting good hay.
When we have horses that are more likely to get chubby, there are a few things we do to manage that. We remove access to pasture, first and foremost, as that is sugary starch that is very unpredictable and the sugars in grass fluctuate constantly with weather and other factors.
We don’t feed grain - just ration balancer - and we have a supplement we love called SimmIRdown which we add for metabolic horses to help balance their blood sugar.
We don’t reduce their primary source of forage, the 24/7 access to hay in slow feeder netting.
On this program we have helped numerous horses with metabolic conditions stabilize & become asymptomatic, and we have successfully rehabbed laminitic horses for clients on this program, too.

Strawberries and Horses: What You Need to Know About This Fruity Treat for Your Equine Friend
Are you pondering whether your horse can enjoy the same sweet treats that we do? Strawberries are a favorite summer fruit for many of us, but can horses eat strawberries too? In this guide, we’ll explore everything you need to know about offering this vibrant berry to your equine friend. From nutritional benefits to potential risks, we’ve got you covered.
Tumblr media
Strawberries are a juicy delight that many of us look forward to in the summer. But as horse owners, you might wonder if sharing these sweet treats is safe for your equine companion. Imagine your horse’s excitement at the sight of a strawberry, but before you toss one their way, it’s crucial to understand the dos and don’ts of feeding them this fruit. Let’s dive into whether horses can enjoy strawberries and how to do it safely.
Can Horses Eat Strawberries?
Yes, horses can eat strawberries! These berries are not toxic to horses and can be a fun and flavorful treat. However, just because they can eat them doesn’t mean they should have unlimited access. Think of strawberries as a special dessert—enjoyable but not a daily staple.
Nutritional Benefits of Strawberries for Horses
Strawberries offer several nutritional benefits that can be a nice bonus to your horse’s diet:
Vitamins: Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, which can support the immune system. While horses produce their own vitamin C, a bit extra from strawberries can be a good thing.
Antioxidants: These berries are packed with antioxidants that help fight inflammation and oxidative stress.
Fiber: The fiber in strawberries can aid in digestion and help maintain a healthy gut.
Imagine strawberries as a little nutritional boost, similar to how we might take a daily vitamin supplement.
Potential Risks of Feeding Strawberries
While strawberries can be beneficial, there are some risks to consider:
Sugar Content: Strawberries have natural sugars. Too many can lead to weight gain or digestive issues, so moderation is key.
Allergic Reactions: Some horses may have allergies or sensitivities to new foods. Keep an eye out for any adverse reactions.
Digestive Upset: Overfeeding can cause stomach issues or diarrhea. It’s important to introduce them slowly and in small amounts.
Consider strawberries like a rich dessert—you wouldn’t eat a whole cake every day, and neither should your horse indulge in too many berries.
How to Safely Introduce Strawberries
Introducing strawberries to your horse’s diet should be done gradually:
Start Small: Begin with a small piece to see how your horse reacts. This helps to check for any potential allergies or digestive problems.
Wash Thoroughly: Always wash strawberries to remove any pesticides or chemicals.
Serve Fresh: Offer fresh strawberries and avoid any that are overripe or moldy.
Think of this process like introducing a new flavor to a child—start with a small taste and see how they like it.
Portion Control: Safe Quantities for Horses
When it comes to strawberries, moderation is key:
Recommended Amount: A few strawberries at a time are generally safe. For most horses, 2-3 strawberries are a good amount.
Frequency: Offer strawberries as an occasional treat rather than a regular part of their diet.
Imagine you’re giving your horse a small serving of dessert—enough to be enjoyable but not so much that it’s overwhelming.
Signs of Allergic Reactions in Horses
Be aware of these signs when introducing strawberries:
Skin Reactions: Look for itching or swelling around the mouth or body.
Digestive Issues: Watch for diarrhea or colic, which could indicate an intolerance.
Behavior Changes: Notice any changes in behavior or appetite.
If you see any of these symptoms, stop giving strawberries and consult your vet.
Other Fruit Alternatives
If you’re looking for other treats for your horse, consider these:
Apples: Remove seeds and core, and cut into slices.
Carrots: Offer raw or cooked, cut into bite-sized pieces.
Pears: Remove seeds and serve in small pieces.
These fruits can offer variety and are generally safe for horses when fed in moderation.
Creating a Balanced Diet
Incorporating treats like strawberries into your horse’s diet should be done thoughtfully:
Balance: Ensure treats make up no more than 10% of your horse’s daily intake.
Variety: Offer a range of fruits and vegetables to keep their diet interesting and balanced.
Consult a Vet: Always check with your veterinarian before introducing new foods.
Think of your horse’s diet like a well-balanced meal plan—treats are a part of the menu but shouldn’t dominate the plate.
Conclusion
Feeding strawberries to your horse can be a delightful and nutritious treat when done correctly. By understanding the benefits, risks, and proper introduction methods, you can safely share this sweet fruit with your equine friend. Remember, moderation is crucial, and keeping a close eye on your horse’s reaction will ensure they enjoy strawberries safely. With these expert tips, you can confidently add strawberries to your horse’s diet and watch them savor every bite!

Buy a Horse
Buying a horse is a thrilling and significant decision that can bring immense joy and companionship. However, it’s essential to approach this process with thorough research and preparation. Whether you're a first-time buyer or an experienced equestrian, this guide will help you navigate the journey of buying a horse, ensuring a successful and fulfilling experience.
1. Assess Your Needs and Goals
Before you begin your search, it's crucial to determine your specific needs and goals. Ask yourself the following questions:
What discipline are you interested in? (e.g., dressage, show jumping, trail riding)
What level of experience do you have with horses?
What is your budget for purchasing and maintaining a horse?
Do you have access to proper facilities and equipment?
Understanding your requirements will help you narrow down your options and find a horse that matches your lifestyle and objectives.
2. Research Breeds and Temperaments
Different horse breeds have distinct characteristics and temperaments. Researching various breeds can help you identify which one aligns with your needs. For instance:
Thoroughbreds are known for their speed and agility, making them ideal for racing and jumping.
Quarter Horses are versatile and excel in a variety of disciplines, including trail riding and rodeo events.
Arabians are known for their endurance and are excellent choices for long-distance riding.
Consider the temperament and behavior of the horse, as this will impact your compatibility and overall experience.
3. Set a Budget
Buying a horse involves more than just the initial purchase price. Factor in ongoing costs such as:
Boarding and stabling: Monthly fees for housing your horse.
Feed and supplements: Regular expenses to maintain your horse’s health.
Veterinary care: Routine check-ups and emergency medical expenses.
Farrier services: Regular hoof care and shoeing.
Setting a realistic budget will help you manage your finances and ensure the well-being of your horse.
4. Seek Professional Guidance
Working with a knowledgeable trainer or equine professional can be invaluable. They can provide insights into horse behavior, evaluate potential purchases, and offer advice on suitable matches. A professional can also help you avoid common pitfalls and ensure that the horse is healthy and well-trained.
5. Conduct Thorough Evaluations
Once you’ve identified potential horses, conduct thorough evaluations:
Health check: Have a veterinarian perform a pre-purchase exam to check for any medical issues.
Behavior assessment: Spend time with the horse to observe its behavior and temperament.
Trial ride: If possible, ride the horse to ensure it meets your riding style and skill level.
Taking these steps will help you make an informed decision and avoid unexpected problems.
6. Finalize the Purchase
When you’ve found the right horse, complete the purchase with a clear and detailed contract. The contract should outline the terms of sale, including:
Price and payment terms
Health guarantees
Return policy (if any)
Having a formal agreement in place protects both parties and ensures a smooth transaction.
7. Prepare for Arrival
Before your new horse arrives, make sure you have everything ready:
Proper stabling and fencing
Adequate feed and water supplies
Essential equipment (saddle, bridle, grooming tools)
Creating a comfortable and safe environment will help your horse settle in quickly and ease the transition.
Conclusion
Buying a horse is a significant commitment that requires careful planning and consideration. By assessing your needs, researching breeds, setting a budget, seeking professional guidance, conducting thorough evaluations, finalizing the purchase with a clear contract, and preparing for your horse’s arrival, you can ensure a successful and rewarding experience. With the right approach, owning a horse can bring years of joy and companionship, creating lasting memories along the way.

Exploring the Benefits of CBD Oil for Horses in the UK: A Comprehensive Guide
Exploring the Benefits of CBD Oil for Horses in the UK: A Comprehensive Guide
In recent years, the use of CBD oil has gained significant traction in the world of equine care. As horse owners seek alternative and natural remedies to support their animals' health and well-being, CBD oil has emerged as a promising option. In the United Kingdom, this trend is no exception, with more equestrians turning to CBD oil to address various health issues in their beloved horses. In this comprehensive guide, we delve into the benefits, usage, and considerations surrounding CBD oil for horses in the UK.
Understanding CBD Oil for Horses
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a compound derived from the cannabis plant. Unlike its counterpart, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not produce the 'high' typically associated with cannabis use. Instead, CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) present in both humans and animals, playing a role in regulating various physiological functions.
CBD oil for horses is typically extracted from hemp plants, which contain high levels of CBD and minimal THC, making it safe for equine use. This oil is then administered orally to horses, either directly into their mouths or mixed with their feed.
The Benefits of CBD Oil for Horses
1. Pain Management
One of the primary reasons horse owners turn to CBD oil is for its potential analgesic properties. Horses, like humans, can suffer from various sources of pain, including arthritis, laminitis, and musculoskeletal injuries. CBD oil has been shown to alleviate pain and inflammation by interacting with the body's ECS and modulating pain signaling pathways.
2. Stress and Anxiety Relief
Horses are sensitive animals that can experience stress and anxiety due to various factors, such as travel, competition, or changes in routine. CBD oil may help calm nervous horses and reduce anxiety levels by promoting relaxation and a sense of well-being. This can be particularly beneficial for horses during high-stress situations or when adapting to new environments.
3. Support for Digestive Health
Digestive issues are common among horses and can manifest as colic, gastric ulcers, or diarrhea. CBD oil has shown promise in supporting digestive health by regulating gut motility, reducing inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract, and promoting appetite. Some horse owners have reported improvements in their horses' digestive issues after incorporating CBD oil into their regimen.
4. Enhancing Overall Well-being
Beyond addressing specific health concerns, many horse owners use CBD oil as a holistic supplement to enhance their animals' overall well-being. CBD's potential antioxidant and neuroprotective properties may contribute to maintaining optimal health and promoting longevity in horses. Regular supplementation with CBD oil may support immune function, promote healthy aging, and improve the quality of life for horses.
Considerations for Using CBD Oil in Horses
While CBD oil holds promise as a natural supplement for horses, it's essential to approach its use with caution and consideration. Here are some key factors to keep in mind:
1. Quality and Purity
When purchasing CBD oil for your horse, prioritize products from reputable manufacturers that undergo third-party testing for potency and purity. Look for CBD oils specifically formulated for equine use and avoid products containing additives or unnecessary ingredients.
2. Dosage and Administration
Determining the appropriate dosage of CBD oil for your horse can be challenging and may vary based on factors such as weight, health condition, and individual response. Start with a low dose and gradually increase it while monitoring your horse's response. Administer CBD oil consistently and as directed to achieve optimal results.
3. Consultation with a Veterinarian
Before introducing CBD oil or any new supplement to your horse's regimen, consult with a qualified veterinarian familiar with CBD use in equine medicine. They can provide personalized guidance based on your horse's specific needs, health status, and existing medications.
4. Legal Considerations
In the UK, CBD products for animal use must comply with regulations set forth by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD). Ensure that the CBD oil you purchase adheres to these regulations and is legally approved for equine use.
Conclusion
CBD oil has emerged as a promising natural supplement for horses in the UK, offering potential benefits for pain management, stress relief, digestive health, and overall well-being. As interest in CBD oil continues to grow among horse owners, it's essential to prioritize quality, dosage accuracy, and veterinary guidance to ensure safe and effective use. With careful consideration and proper administration, CBD oil may become a valuable addition to your horse's holistic healthcare regimen, supporting their health and happiness for years to come.

Muskoka Farm Pre Training For Thoroughbreds
Tumblr media
The thoroughbred breeding industry makes a significant contribution to Australia’s regional economy, and stallion fees and sales profits support thousands of jobs. Located near national parks and surrounded by natural bushland, Muskoka Farm offers breaking, pre training, spelling and agistment.
The world class facility is renowned for its violence-free horse breaking methods and has worked with top racehorses, including Golden Slipper winners. The 280-acre property includes five stable barns, a 2.4-kilometer crusher dust track and 10 large, fully fenced paddocks. It also has a four-bedroom main homestead, guest house and two-story facility manager’s cottage. To know more about Pre Training, visit the Muskoka Farm website or call (02)45663106.
Thoroughbreds are famous for their ability to run fast over long distances, and their endurance is unparalleled in the animal kingdom. However, there are many other uses for these horses. Larger ones are often used as family riding horses, while smaller ones become dressage or youth show horses. Many retired race horses also find new careers as polo ponies or steeplechase competitors.
The 280-acre Muskoka Farm, located in Gunderman, NSW, is one of the country’s best horse spelling facilities. It offers breaking, pre-training, and agistment, as well as a state-of-the-art export quarantine facility. Its impressive facilities include a 2.4-kilometer crusher dust track, a two-kilometre grass track for pace work, and a high-speed treadmill.
The prestigious property is located on the Hawkesbury River and has five stable barns, 27 day yards, 10 large fully fenced paddocks, and a private jetty/pontoon. In addition, the farm has a facility manager’s cottage and two-bedroom guest house. It is a registered AQIS quarantine facility for export.
The journey of racehorses begins at a young age, as they begin their long path towards competitive racing. This journey requires exceptional balance and strength, as well as the ability to respond to rider cues. These equine athletes are subject to rigorous training regimens that prioritize gradual development and enhance cardiovascular fitness. The right approach can help maximize their chances of success on the racetrack.
Located in Gunderman, Muskoka Farm is a world class spelling and pre-training facility with a plethora of working tracks. Its 58 stables, 2000m crusher dust track and high-speed treadmill make it a favorite among Australia’s top trainers.
Upon arrival at the farm, horses are checked and may be bled for a urine sample. They are then fed a small, high fibre meal and water. They are then rested until the next day. At that time they are trotted up and re-checked before being turned out in small paddocks or put on the horse walker for exercise.
Stable hands are the backbone of a racehorse operation and work in all weather conditions. They are responsible for grooming and cleaning stalls, feeding and watering horses, administering supplements and medications, and preparing horses for exercise. They also perform facility maintenance and operate equipment to maintain the farm’s grounds and barns.
A stable hand must be able to follow directions and work independently. They must be comfortable working around large animals that can kick and bite. It is important to find out if the stable you are applying for provides safety gear. You may also want to ask about horse and human first aid supplies.
Located in Gunderman, NSW the 280 acre Muskoka Farm is one of Australia’s best Thoroughbred pre training facilities. Its impressive facilities include a 2000m crusher dust track, 58 stables, private pontoon and high speed treadmill. It is a popular training destination for many of the country’s top trainers. It has a number of programs that help future racehorses get in shape.
Buying a racehorse can be a great investment. It can be done in an individual capacity or in a partnership or syndicate. However, it is important to seek expert advice before purchasing a horse. This will help you get the best value for your money and avoid common mistakes.
The first step is to attend a racing sale, usually in November. These sales feature a variety of horses that are ready to race and have been timed in breeze ups. The breeze ups will give you an idea of the horse’s potential under saddle. To know more about Pre Training, visit the Muskoka Farm website or call (02)45663106.
One of Australia’s leading Thoroughbred pre training facilities is located at Muskoka Farm in Wisemans Ferry, an hour from Sydney. The facility offers breaking, pre training, spelling and agistment services, as well as being a registered AQIS quarantine facility for exporting. Its impressive facilities include a 2.4-kilometre crusher dust track, 16-horse walker, lap pool and high speed treadmill. The property also has a private jetty/pontoon and two-bedroom guest house.

Reasons to Choose Flavored Horse Supplements
Tumblr media
Providing horses with the necessary supplements is crucial for maintaining their health and performance. Among the array of options available, flavored horse supplements stand out as an excellent choice for several compelling reasons. Palatability plays a significant role in ensuring horses willingly consume the supplements. Flavored supplements, often infused with enticing tastes such as apple, molasses, or carrot, appeal to the equine palate, making it easier for horse owners to administer the necessary nutrients without resistance. This is particularly beneficial when dealing with picky eaters or horses with dietary restrictions.
Flavored Horse Supplement for Overall Well-Being
Flavored horse supplements contribute to the overall well-being of horses by encouraging them to ingest the required vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients. The enhanced taste helps overcome any aversions horses may have, promoting consistency in their dietary intake. This is especially important for maintaining optimal joint health, muscle development, and a strong immune system.
Another advantage of flavored supplements is the convenience they offer in daily administration. Horse owners often find it simpler to incorporate these supplements into the horse's feed, leading to increased compliance and adherence to the recommended dosage.
Flavored Horse Supplement to Promote Equine Health Choosing flavored horse supplements is a wise decision for promoting equine health. The enticing tastes not only make supplementation more enjoyable for horses but also facilitate easier and more consistent administration. By prioritizing palatability, horse owners can ensure their four-legged companions receive the essential nutrients they need for sustained well-being and peak performance.

Caissons Stop Rolling, As Army Scrambles To Reverse, Improve Conditions That Put Arlington Horses In Jeopardy
WASHINGTON — One week after the Army privately touted its steps to improve the conditions for horses working at Arlington cemetery, it decided to shut down the Army's Caisson platoon, the ceremonial horse unit that is the centerpiece of the service to carry the bodies of fallen troops for burial at Arlington National Cemetery.
The suspension follows four equine deaths in the platoon over the last year and as well as deep, festering and some say negligent living conditions for the horses and a seemingly stark lack of elementary training for those who care and handle the horses, congressional aides said.
The slowness of the Army to address the problem has raised bipartisan ire from Congress, which has directed millions in funding to improve the living conditions for the horses — and has increased concerns in equine and humane organizations.
“This is a national tragedy,” Jim Gath, founder and chair of the Tierra Madre Horse and Human Sanctuary in Cave Creek, Arizona, and author of 10 books, including ‘I Hear You, Horse,” said in an interview. "These horse are being used to take heroes to the final resting place. They have been treated as if nobody is in charge of these horses and their well-being.”
The shut down is for at least 45 days to prioritize the health of the herd. The Army said the "suspension" will not impact military honors at the cemetery.
The concerns over the Army’s poor treatment of the Arlington horses is one element of growing national concerns over equine conditions - including those of race horses. Prior to the recent Kentucky Derby, five horses were scratched from the race — the most since 1936 — amid a 10-day stretch where seven horses died at Churchill Downs, including two on race day.
Asked on May 4 if Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was satisfied with the Army's decision to stand down the Caisson unit at Arlington National Cemetery as a way to further review the treatment of the horses there, Deputy Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh said, “So I know what you're referring to. I just don't have more information on that. I'd be happy to take that question and get back to you and provide an answer.”
For months and most likely years, the Arlington herd was living in small, unsanitary lots covered in more than a dozen inches of excrement. They were also eating low-quality hay and other materials, congressional aides said.
More than a dozen inspections conducted between 2019 and 2022 gave the horse facilities “unsatisfactory” sanitary ratings, despite supposed efforts made by the soldiers of Caisson Platoon, who train and care for the horses. A lack of space, inadequate funding and the turnover of unit commanders were noted as the primary issues. The 60-some horses were fed poor-quality feed, suffered parasite infestations and lived in excrement-filled mud lots.
Roughly half of the horses in the unit were over 20 years old -- or geriatric.
“You want someone with practical experience,” Gath said. “You want someone who has dealt with these issues in the past.
“They are putting these horses in jeopardy,” he said. “The details in what they plan to do is every thing. They need to walk down every stall, teeth to tail (exam), get a permanent record going, the types of feed, the types of hay, the supplements they get, the medicine, the physical (activity) for them you do to bring them back proper health.
“It’s all about the horse,” Gath said. “I would be more than glad to come out there and help with those evaluations - just like we do here at Tierra Madre."
Facing severe congressional criticism and the threat of civilian lawsuits - some comparing the Army’s treatment of its horses to horses broken down in some big city tourist systems — the Army said it was undertaking a significant review and upgrade of operating procedure and living conditions for the beleaguered herd.
That includes, for the first time, creating an adoption program through which certain individuals can adopt retired horses. The Army did not provide details on the program nor if individuals or organization could support the existing herd working at the cemetery.
“Raising awareness for and participating in this program is a great way to support the Caisson Platoon,” Army Col. June Jeffrey-Kim, Director of Public Affairs, Military District of Washington, said in a statement to Red Snow News.
Two horses died within 96 hours of each other in February 2022, one with 44 pounds of gravel found in his gut upon necropsy. Tony, the horse with 44 pounds of sediment in his gut, died of sand colic, the result of being fed in inappropriate feeding areas. Mickey, the other horse that died in February, died of septic colic, which was caused by an untreated gastrointestinal illness or injury. Manure and bacteria made their way into his bloodstream, causing an infection.
Rio, a 19-year-old horse, died on Oct. 24, 2022, and Rambler, a 14-year-old horse, died a month later. Both were euthanized by veterinarians as a result of their ailments. Rio died of surgical complications after he suffered a left limb fracture; he underwent three surgeries to attempt to fix the injury, but veterinarians determined he would be euthanized for quality-of-life purposes.
Ramble died of "acute abdominal distress;" it is unclear if it was caused by sediment in his gut as the unit was waiting for necropsy results at the time. Horses can die from an ailment called "colic," a general term for abdominal pain that can vary in severity and pain for the animal.
In January of this year, the unit closed its stable to the public for a month to "minimize spreading a contagious [to other horses] upper respiratory bacterial infection that was found in" one of the horses.
Part of that criticism has centered around how much space the unit has allotted to the herd at Forts Myer and Belvoir, facilities that currently offer less than 20% of the area that equine experts recommend. Provisions to improve the horses' conditions were included in the National Defense Authorization Act, or NDAA, that passed Congress last year.
Even with the added 14 acres, the herd is still short of the "generally required" 1-2 acres per horse.
In an email response to Red Snow News, the Army outlined on background what it is doing to improve the care and status of the horses.
That includes repairing shelters, fences lines and removing hazardous objects, and repairing stalls, repairing the bar heating system; and acquired and establishing a new 14-acre pasture in Fairfax County after working jointly with the Bureau of Land Management; placing concrete pads around hay feeders and installing rubber mats in feeding areas to reduce the ingestion of sand and gravel.
It said it hired a herd manager with equine and agricultural degrees to oversee all aspects of herd health from procurement to retirement and a facilities manager with a degree in environmental biology and 16 years of professional animal care management to upgrade and improve equine equipment and facilities for the entire herd.
The Army also said it established relationships with civilian farriers to address corrective and orthopedic shoeing needs, worked with civilian saddle fitters to properly match horses to existing cavalry saddle, and established relationships with local agricultural experts like the Virginia Tech Extension Offices to consult on our pasture rotation schedule and the elimination of toxic plants.
It did not identify any of those relationships for verification.
It also said it updated the Basic Horsemanship Class to include more instruction on horse care, horsemanship, and riding skills for new soldiers.
As for horse care, it said it has “established nutritional minimums for forage and supplements; organized routine check-ins to monitor horse weight and body condition.” t also said it has updated hay, feed, and supplement contracts to provide more nutritional value for the herd and address existing health concerns.
Part of the improvements are to install commercial slow feed nets in stalls to better align with natural horse consumption habits and improve grain feed schedules and protocols “ensuring each horse receives feed based on their individual dietary needs,” the Army said.
The Army also made adjustments to what horses must wear, moving toward what horse experts say are basics that should have been done long ago.
They include procuring Western style saddle pads to address pressure, discomfort, and soreness related to poor tack fit from the existing cavalry saddles; adopting Hippo setup for wagon tack to address neck pain soreness from existing tack fit; procured English saddles for section horses to increase ergonomics for horse and ride, and ordered new girths and headstalls to improve tack fit for the cemetery herd.
The Army also promised to allow for more flexibility and time off for horses assigned to cemetery operations. It promised to expand “our mission tracking and forecasts to allow for more efficient operations and more deliberate rest cycles,” establish grooming standards to improve coat condition for the cemetery horses, and institute monthly educational classes for soldiers to learn about equine healthcare and management.
