TV: Euphoria (2019-)

Que Rue Bennett, personaje interpretado por Zendaya, sea el rostro principal de esta galardonada serie de HBO no quiere decir que sea su única protagonista. Dura, por momentos agobiante, su voz es la que recorre las historias más importantes de la serie. Una adicta a las drogas en constante recuperación y recaída que queda prendada de Jules (Hunter Schafer), nacida como varón; es una cualidad que comparte con la actriz que la encarna. Personaje trágico, Jules le ofrece el alivio amoroso que necesita mientras lucha por no sucumbir ante la próxima dosis, la cual sabe que le espera en el almacén de Fezco (Angus Cloud) y Ashtray (Javon “Wanna” Walton).

Otro rol importante es el de Nate Jacobs (Jacob Elordi), un muchacho con graves problemas de temperamento, un exacerbado afán competitivo, alentado por su propio padre (cuyo placer secreto es grabar sus conquistas sexuales con gays y transexuales; el personaje es interpretado por Eric Dane), y una actitud dominante y machista. Nate, al igual que su progenitor, lucha contra deseos sexuales indeseados, más que probable causa de su ira.

Realizada con un prodigioso ritmo narrativo por Sam Levinston (autor, productor y director) para HBO Max, la serie tiene un antecedente israelí del mismo nombre. Cuenta con dos temporadas (y ya ha sido confirmada una tercera), dos especiales y una extensa colección de nominaciones y premios, de los cuales la magnífica Zendaya ha sido consagrada con dos Emmys a la mejor actriz en una serie dramática. Mención especial para el resto del grupo no menos notable: Nika King y Storm Reid como Leslie y Gia, sufridas madre y hermana de Rue; Sydney Sweeney y Maude Apatow como las hermanas Cassie y Lexi Howard; Alexa Demie como Maddy Pérez, novia de Nate; Barbie Ferreira como la creadora de contenido erótico online Kat; Dominic Fike como Elliot, compañero de escuela y de vicio de Rue; Algee Smith como Chris, pareja de Cassie; Austin Abrams como Ethan, el enamorado de Kat y Colman Domingo como Ali, quizás el amigo más sincero y necesario de Rue porque ha conocido el maltrato y el abuso de sustancias y sabe por propia experiencia lo que implica ser un drogadicto y sus consecuencias para sí mismo y para sus seres cercanos.

Synopsis -  Your brother comes into the hospital. He has special needs, and Mark mistakes the way you treat him, as if you were cheating on him.

I finish helping my patient In trauma, they just had a broken leg, and lightly bruised in the face. Torres and Sloan are going to take care of it. The patient is stable as of now, and they should continue to be.  

“Okay. You’re looking great. I’m going to have two doctors that specialize in your injuries come over and take a look.” I start to take my gloves off, and look up when I hear a new trauma coming in.

“Y/b/n Y/l/n, twenty seven year old male. He was hit by a car.  Not too fatal, but has lacerations to stomach, arms, and legs. Also burns on stomach from the heat of the engine in the car. Has been given two of morphine. Currently conscious.” I look up when I hear the name. I run over and look at my brother. Dr. Sloan, Yang, Bailey, and an Intern come over to the gurney.

“Oh my gosh, babe. What happened? You’re going to be okay, hun.” I see his face is a little burned, and his arms are bleeding and a little burned.  

“Y/n.” He reaches his hand up and I grab it.  

“It’s okay, babe. You’re going to be fine.” I see Dr. Sloan look up at me, with a disapproving look. I don’t pay too much attention to him. They roll him into trauma room three. I follow them to the room, and they say many medical things, but I don’t listen to the diagnosis.  

“Dr. Y/l/n, I’m sorry, but you need to leave. We can’t work with you over us, you know that.” Christina Yang tells me.  

“Sorry Dr. Yang, but I cannot leave.” I tell her.

“Dr. Y/l/n, we cannot do our jobs with you breathing over us.” Dr. Bailey says.  

“Just let me help then, Bailey.” I am an attending like Dr. Sloan. He deals with plastics, and I do burns, rashes, etc.

“You know the policy. No family in the room.” She says.

“I know that Dr. Bailey, but I’m not everyone else. I can help. You don’t understand..” I tell her.

“Just leave, Dr. Y/l/n!” Sloan yells at me. I look at him confused, so does Bailey and Yang.

“Fine.” I leave the room and go to one of the empty on call rooms. I pace around, trying to calm myself down. I need to be in that room. I need to make sure that he is okay.

What seems like hours later, I get a page from Bailey, so I run to the room that she paged me he is in. I walk into the room, and he smiles when he sees me. I also see Sloan and Bailey standing next to him.

“Hey, Y/n.” He smiles.  

“Hey hun, you feeling okay?” He nods and I grab his hand softly not to hurt him.  

“I feel okay.”  

“What did you guys do?” I ask Dr. Bailey.

“Luckily his cuts weren’t deep, so we disinfected and bandaged them. His burns weren’t bad, so those are dressed. We didn’t need to go to surgery. He is very lucky.” She smiles.  

“Thank you.” I look at Bailey, and then Mark. He scowls at me, and leaves the room.

“What was that ?” Bailey asks.

“I don’t know. I’ll be right back.” I get up and follow Mark. “Mark!” I run after him. I grab onto his arm and he shoves me off. “What is your problem?” He grabs my arm and pulls me into an on-call room.

“How could you not tell me your married? You’re going to be with me, but also be married? What’s wrong with you?”

“I’m not married. He’s my-.” I say to him.

“Your what? Your boyfriend. That doesn’t make it better. You are going to be with him and be with me at the same time. Do you know how terrible it is to cheat on someone? To be cheated on? I’ve dealt with it before.”

“Yeah. Exactly. You’ve dealt with it before. You’ve cheated on someone. I have not. Who do you take me for? That man in there is my brother. He has special needs. He has Asperger’s Syndrome. He responds better to nicknames. That’s what calms him. When I saw him, I could tell he was getting worked up. When you were dressings his burns, he was scratching his head, right? Right? Because he was uncomfortable being vulnerable with someone he doesn’t know. When I talk to him, he remains calm. I could have told you that if you wouldn’t have yelled at me to get out of the room. I would never cheat on my husband, if I had one. Or you. You know that. I’ve told you that before, Mark. You know what, whatever.” I leave the room, and I hear him calling my name. I ignore him, and go back to my brothers room. I frustratedly wipe the tears off my face, and hold Y/b/n’s hand.

A few hours later, it’s night, and my shift is over. I am going to go home, and leave Y/b/n here. He always sleeps at the same time, so I’ll be here before he wakes up, so I can check up on him before my shift. I kiss his cheek before leaving the hospital, and driving home.  

I take a shower to wash off the hospital. I put on sweatpants, and a tank top. It’s midnight, and I have to be back at the hospital at six. I lay on my sofa, not wanting to lay in my bed, because I know I will not get up in the morning If I do. I look up at the ceiling, replaying today’s events. My brother is in the hospital, and Mark is being a jerk. I sigh heavily and close my eyes, wanting to get some sleep.

I’m awakened by a knocking at my door. It’s like four in the morning, who’s knocking at my door. I groan and get up. I look into the peep hole and see Mark. I open the door and roll my eyes at him.

“What, Mark. I have to be at the hospital in two hours. This couldn’t have waited until then?”

“I’m sorry.” He says. I open the door, more for him to come inside. I walk back over to my sofa, and he closes the door behind him.

“Continue.” I say.

“I’m sorry I acted so stupid. I didn’t know he was your brother, and it doesn’t matter that it was. I know who you are, and that you wouldn’t cheat. I just got jealous, I guess. I don’t know how to do this whole relationship hing. I don’t know. I’m stupid. I’m sorry.” He sits next to me, but avoids my gaze.

“Thanks, Mark. I never thought about how you would perceive the way I talk to him. Still, that’s no reason to yell at me like you did.”  

“I know. I’m a jerk. I’m sorry.”

“I guess I’ll forgive you. I did get to yell at you back.” I smile.

“I didn’t know you had vocal cords like that. That’s good to know.” He smirks. I roll my eyes and shove his shoulder.

“Whatever, Mark.” I smile. He kisses me, and I kiss him back. I stop him after a few seconds. “I need to sleep. I have to get up to go to the hospital in an hour and a half. You can stay here, but we’re sleeping.” I tell him sternly.

“We can sleep when we’re dead.” He says jokingly.

“I’ll be dead if I don’t sleep.” I lay back down on the sofa, and Mark lies next to me. He wraps his arm around my shoulder, so I don’t fall off the sofa. I close my eyes, and fall asleep to the sound of his heartbeat.
