every time i do a full playthrough like this i have the same crisis of faith like, “wait. 2-4 is my favorite case, right? isn’t it???” and then i finish and decide once and for all, for like the eightieth time, yes it is.

for a lot of reasons, but esp because there is simply no match for the CLUSTERFUCK that is 2-4′s final trial phase. it is absolute perfection thru its divine chaos.

are you trying to prove that adrian is innocent or guilty? fuck you!! you’re arguing the opposite of whatever it was ten minutes ago!! 

you already know basically what happened and that makes it feel slimy when you have to discredit it? GOOD!!!!

nick is throwing things. he keeps answering his cell phone in the middle of court. every time the judge is like “ok word i think i got it” one of the attorneys is like “wait hang on. what if we just, like, vibed? kept the party train going?” and it’s usually the one who’s literally about to win. nick and edgeworth start accidentally arguing the same point together and the judge is like “are y’all stupid? what is happening rn.” the whole gallery keeps getting pissed and starting an anti-chant like they’re in the goddamn coliseum.

you’re nervously cross-examining a walkie talkie bc you dont want to make the walkie talkie mad. maybe at one point you’re like “well, these games are super linear right? what’s the worst that could happen if i fuck it up, a game over?” and then BAM it’s a canon bad ending, dickweed!!!! people are writing fanfiction RIGHT NOW about this horrible timeline you just created!!!

Favourite ace attorney case and why?

god this is so incredibly hard because I can't put my finger on just one

both bttt and farewell are both so good and always hit me right in the emotions every time? the maya feelings esp hoooh boy and both cases showcase how much maya and the feys mean so much to phoenix which is just. SO MUCH TO ME.

maybe farewell pulls ahead A BIT because you get to face edgeworth again and working together with him is something so nice ngdmfsdf THO the writing for him in that trial is a little all over the place so maybe it's bttt? the idea of miles chartering a jet to rush to phoenix's bedside and then also miles facing franziska in court which just seems like such destiny and so much fun to see...between that and all they fey drama and how phoenix ties into it all....YEAH MAYBE THAT ONE.

a very close second is turnabout goodbyes bc it's just. i mean. classique. the nrmts drama of unburying all of miles's trauma and having phoenix believe in him when even he himself didn't believe that he was innocent. also. very good.

still thinking abt dual destinies so here are my generally thoughts and criticisms of it having mulled over it for a day.

so like,, aa5 spoilers below lol

ok so starting off with things i do like i fucking love athena. she got a much better introduction as character than both phoenix and apollo. like i only began to love phoenix at like,,, farewell my turnabout and i really really liked athena pretty much as soon as she was introduced. they did a really good job of establishing her character and flaws.

i also like how her ptsd is handled. like she gets panic attacks and it's not presented as her being weak or anything it's a valid and normal thing and yeah her friends have to help her through it but all that matters is that shes a good lawyer and a good person. idk like u genuinely dont see many characters who get panic attacks and they handled that very well

juniper is an absolute angel and i loved her relationship with athena. very cool that all the lawyers of the waa have iconic gay romances.

TALKING of gay romances i really liked edgeworth in this game. YES i wished that he had pointed out the similarities between athenas case and dl6 and maybe that he had apologised to athena after but genuinely like considering simon keyes it wasnt like,, out of nowhere for him to suspect athena. but genuinely edgeworth was very well written which isnt a surprise considering the main writer was takeshi yamazaki but i digress. i liked edgeworths entrance and i loved him and phoenixs conversation at the end of the case GOD

going on from that just like the narumitsu in this game ABSOLUTELY immaculate . absolute gourmet queerbait,, the flavour. miles being the reason phoenix retook the bar.... miles pulling the strings to make sure phoenix got his badge back.... them going on trips to europe during the 7 year gap and going to trucys magic shows together... they're in love ur honour.

turnabout academy was my favourite case and themis legal academy is just such a great concept. i like how it kinda ties into aai2 and the just the vibe of it,, very animeish in a good way for sure.

im absolutely terrible and i published this post without finishing it but here are some of my main criticisms

i wish they had expanded on anything from aa4. if they didnt want to keep the mason system thing they just coulda had an explanation like "it was shot down by the dark age of the law" or something like.

having phoenix get disbarred and adopt a kid wa the best thing they did for his character and phoenix was SO interesting in aa4. but MAN he was just a cardboard cut out in this game esp the last two cases. i WISH they had brought forward that aa4 characterisation. or at least given an explanation as to why he was so different in aa5. turnabout academy was the only case where i liked his characterisation

my biggest criticism of the game is the way they handled the kidnapping/hostage plot. honest to god done the properly hostage plot could be great as phoenix wrestles with his duty as father vs his duty as a lawyer. i think it would be actually be good to have phoenix ultimately decide that his duty to trucy supercedes his role, like a reminder to the audience that hey this is a very different man to the guy u knew in the trilogy. my main issue i thought they might have with writing that is that while the phoenix might view

1:Farewell my turnabout. I think i’ve made my love of this case pretty damn clear on this blog but god, i just love it so much. it plays itself off as a rehashing of 1-3 but it jsut gets so dramatic so quick! this case had me feeling like i was fighting the clock, and it seemed like it had real consequences- its also the first case with a full bad end. which the guilty not guilty choice as no effect on the case- it also doesnt put a good/bad value on your choice. the game lets you decide what choice you think is right. its jsut. sucha an amazing case.

2: bridge to the turnabout! look, final cases are good and you’re gonna find a lot on here. bridge to the turnabout was supposed to be the final climax to the acce attorney series, and it pulls it off! this case is long, confusing, but figuring everything out feels like a gift. this is the climax of both phoenix and Maya’s arcs, and its tied togetherthrough actualy really good and believeable retcon. also, the partwhere mia and phoenix point together????? boy i die

3: turnabout goodbyes: this is the classic case that started the obsession from “i like this” to “I adore this” edgeworth is your defendant, you’ve got this new, vicious prosecutor, edgeworth ADMITS TO THE NEXT MURDER once you clear him, you cross examine the parrot!!! its just. fanastic.

RFTA: rfta is a v good ass case. its length has alwas just been a bittttt too much for me, pushing it down, but the contrast between the skyes and they feys is great, and i love the skyes. gant is a really intimidating villian- the way he get edgeworth in paticular, is super impressive

turnabout sisters: tis case really changes your expectations for the game!!! anyways i love maya.
