Jaguar E-TYPE Zero: “The Most Beautiful Electric Car In The World” Ryton-on-Dunsmore, 7 September 2017 – Jaguar Land Rover Classic is presenting an electric-powered Jaguar E-type at the Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest, which opens to the public on 8 September in London. The car, known as E-type Zero, has been restored and converted at Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works in Coventry, not far from where the E-type was born.  The Jaguar E-type Zero not only drives and looks like an E-type, it also offers outstanding performance. It’s quicker than an original E-type: 0-100km/h (62mph) takes only 5.5sec, about one second quicker than a Series 1 E-type.  E-type Zero’s unique electric powertrain was developed by an electric powertrain specialist in conjunction with Jaguar Land Rover engineers and to a specific brief from Jaguar Land Rover Classic. It uses some technology and components borrowed from the upcoming I-PACE, Jaguar Land Rover’s first production all-electric vehicle. The E-type Zero has a ‘real world’ range of 270km (about 170 miles), helped by the low weight and good aerodynamics. It uses a 40kWh battery, which can be recharged from home overnight (typically in six to seven hours, depending on power source). The Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest, where the electric Jaguar E-type is unveiled, is being held at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Jaguar's 1961 - 150 mph E Type, is said to have been the inspiration for Ferrari's 1962 - 250 GTO entry in to the 1962 to 1964 - FIA GT race series

Speculation at the time that Jaguar Cars were also returning to professional Racing were not without substance, and Ferrari's entry in to the GT Race Series drove Jaguar Cars to produce twelve special Lightweight aluminum-racing models of their E Type for participation in the 1962 - 1964 FIA GT racing series.

However, Sir William Lyons ultimately decided against Jaguar Cars re-entering competitive racing, but instead sold all twelve Lightweights exclusively to his preferred privateer teams on the understanding that there would be no factory support offered thereafter.

All of the original 12 Lightweights have survived and are now owned by private collectors. If one of these ever becomes available for sale, it will be for millions of pounds, normally behind closed doors by private tender, and is very unlikely to ever be offered in a public sale.

Of the 12 Jaguar Lightweights, two were further enhanced to become known as Low Drags, with the Lindner Nocker - Low Drags considered to be the prettiest of the two.
