Rewatching Hercules and...hm.

It's definitely GOOD, I love the art style and all, but...maybe it's just because of this Disney Era, but I can see the Decline. It's very, very, very Paint-By-Numbers. From the colors to the script to the songs to the pacing to the tone.

It's impressive by a lot of standards, but it's definitely one of the weakest of the 90s era.

Danny DeVito's here now, though, so it's definitely taken an upswing.

#I think it feels like a movie that knows where it WANTS to go #and I think once it gets there it's strong #but GOSH this opening half hour is carried by the Muses #even my begrudging admission of James Woods's talent is picking up on ust how much he's kinda phoning it in #the days of young herc are just...so very Disney #it's not until they break out to the monster fights and the training and the MEG that the movie actually finds itself #but when he's doing his whole Disney Princess thing at the start it's kinda eh #contrast with Frozen and Tangled which have much much MUCH stronger opening acts #hercules
