Like many other confusing aspects of Iranian culture, the National Anthem, has a strange story. The official Royal National Anthem was changed by the Shiite politicians to something quite vile.
But there is another Anthem called Ey Iran, or Oh Iran.
The video link here is superb and sung by the brilliant Mario Taghodossi:

As time has gone by, many now believe this should be our National Anthem.
The story behind the creation of it, was that in 1946 the composer Ostad Khalegi, was asked to write a National Anthem. Almost coincidently moments later, he heard soldiers marching by. He got inspired and wrote the theme immmediately.  It was an epiphany. The rhythum of the anthem is based on that marching strutt. It has that vibrancy and nationalistic glory to it.
The theme stirs the Iranian heart. It has now become the rallying cry of the Iranian opposition. It is one of the few things we are all in tune with, alongside the name Persian Gulf. We wish we had more things to be in unison with, but sadly politics and religion have been marvelously devisive.
