In metal additive manufacturing, many ways of doing the process involve a lot of heat. To learn more about a different technology, we spoke to Mark Norfolk, President and CEO of Fabrisonic. Fabrisonic uses a low-temperature technology based on ultrasonic welding. Компания Fabrisonic получила подтверждение очередной заявки на патент применимо к гибридным установкам, использующим технологии механической обработки c ЧПУ и аддитивного производства методом ультразвуковой сварки в твердом состоянии. Методика 3D печати компании Fabrisonic, образованной в 2011 году, уникальна: никаких лазеров, электронных пучков или связующих агентов с последующим спеканием. Построение трехмерных металлических объектов осуществляется за счет ультразвуковой сварки, что дает целый ряд преимуществ. Самое очевидное – это возможность печати при более низких температурах. Ультразвуковые 3D принтеры печатают тонкими металлическими лентами, прессуемыми поверх субстрата или предыдущих слоев вибрирующим роликом. Высокочастотные вибрации вызывают разрушение поверхностных пленок, а затем схватывание между слоями. Хотя в процессе и выделяется тепло, плавления не происходит. Например, при работе с алюминием температура не превышает 120°С. Механическая обработка необходима для обрезания свежих слоев по контурам и пост-обработки поверхностей после печати. В результате получаются высокоплотные, практически однородные металлические изделия. Интересно и то, что технология позволяет комбинировать различные металлы и сплавы, плохо поддающиеся обыч��ой сварке из-за разницы в температурах плавления, коэффициентах теплового расширения и образования хрупких интерметаллидов. Например, можно изготавливать легкую броню с высоким уровнем баллистической защиты, комбинируя слои титана и алюминия. Более того, достаточно низкие рабочие температуры делают этот метод аддитивного производства единственным, позволяющим встраивать электронику в цельнометаллические изделия прямо во время производства. Наконец, технология отличается высокой производительностью. 3D принтеры SonicLayer способны наращивать от 245 до 490 см³ в час. Габариты выстраиваемых изделий тоже внушают: например, SonicLayer 7200 обладает областью построения в 1,8х1,8х0,9 метра, хотя есть и более компактные варианты.
