Oh you know it I want to talk about Kazuhira Miller. Of course I do.

(my favorite Sunny moments are all of mgrec and jomo am I allowed to answer that. Loved her there the writers did such a good job. I wish we were friends.)

First impression

Honestly, I don't think I took that much notice of him in his first appearance? I saw him in pw first, and in the beginning he is just a guy idk. The ending of peace walker and his tapes made me go a bit feral over him though. just a little.

Impression now

I'm in love with his anger issues. He's a scared animal backed into a corner that bites at the hand reaching for him even if it wants to feed and soothe him. I like thinking it gets better with age, but never quite leaves him to some extent, he did think about his revenge on bb for years (even though I think by the end it was less personal and more about. you know. not letting the world explode.)

I really really really like all of Kaz's designs. They're so expressive and tell so much about the mental space he's in. I love how resilient he is throughout all of the shit he deals with and how he passes it on to Dave. What else. There's so much more honesty I talk a bunch about Kaz in other asks, nothing else I haven't mentioned before comes to mind right now.

Favorite moment

Him almost killing himself and bb with a grenade. Showstopping. Brilliant. Never done before. All of first encounter honestly it does so much for him as a character. His tapes where he talks about his childhood too. Every Kaz moment is kind of my favorite I think. I like his lines as Master Miller where he tells Solid he should survive and about cheese fondue and stuff.

Idea for a story

I'm afraid I tie him to Ocelot too much because I love their dynamic. A big fic during the nine year gap where they do a bunch of dumb shit and make Diamond Dogs and kiss is the main one I guess. They go to a casino and beat the shit out of each other one (1) time and beat the shit out of other people many times. So much more bullshit happens but im not getting into that right now. I also have a story with the main focus on Paz in mind, but he's also there a lot, I just want them to be friends.

Unpopular opinion

He can be impulsive but he is a lot more rational than what people often portray/describe him as I think. Also, almost all interpretations of him in v I've seen feel kind of. wrong. Yes, he's traumatized and paranoid, but he is not a *mess*, not in a way he is often viewed. I already said about how I think Kaz's designs are very expressive, and there was this really cool post (don't really know where it's now unfortunately, don't think I reblogged it) about how his facial hair in tpp isn't him giving up on shaving, it's him having a fucking designer stubble that was a rising trend at the time. This, coupled with the fact that he wears so many layers (of also fancy clothes), carries a gun on him at all times, and orders people around as if it were his base (it is) and his soldiers (they are) is exactly the opposite of a man that gave up on his life. It isn't his low point. I headcanon the actual lowest low point in his life being somewhere during bb's coma, and by v he has gotten over it. It was a really long time, and they needed to move on to get things done, so he did. He didn't really need Snake by the time he gets back, I think. Not anymore. It was purely sentimenal by then, plus wanting revenge. And then not even that.

Favorite relationship

Oh would you really make me choose. Ocelhira for all the reasons listed here and so many more. Him and bb for all the baggage they have. Him and V for all the baggage they don't have but think they do because Zero is insane what was that plan. Him and Solid even though they have almost no screentime together. Everyone who ever interacts with him is my favorite relationship because it's Kazuhira Miller. Sorry for being abnormal about him.

Favorite headcanon

Transfem Kaz maybe, but I don't write or think about him with it in mind a lot of the time. Also I think he lost the hand in Ground Zeroes, it makes sense with him bringing up losing limbs and the pain being a reminder of what was taken from him nine years ago in his helicopter speech.

Okay, more seriously about Sunny. Everyone always draws her so cheerful and outgoing aka closer to how she's in Rising I assume, that I didn't really expect that she'd be essentially kind of a shut-in in 4. She's a scared anxious child who is also a prodigy, and they are so fucking mean to her there. Made me honestly pretty sad. Though a lot of it might have been the stress everyone was under. I haven't gotten to her in mgr yet, but it makes me happy that things get better for her, like everyone always wanted.

Rose. I don't know, smth about the design scratches my brain just right and I love his color scheme a lot.

Also is mgrec Sunny something I can answer. She is kind of like Ashen's oc to me tbh.

14. Introduce an OC with a tragic backstory.

Hmm since it says introduce let's do someone I haven't talked about at all before. I've never properly drawn her, her name is Illana and she is the love interest of a short (?) story of mine, Lost and Found (that I am aslo yet to properly write, but it has an outline and some notes).

She is a forest goddess and used to have a temple that people came to with offerings to ask her for blessings of the harvest and mostly similar mundane stuff. X years before the main events, there was a famine around the country and it hit her region stronger than other. People came to her a lot, and she helped them as much as she could. But the longer it went on, the harder it became to look after everything, even with her knowledge and magic. People thought she didn't want to help them, which led to a local civil war, where some tried to attack her temple and some tried to defend it. In the end, she cast a spell on the forest and cut herself from the town and any other civilization, and didn't want anything to do with people again for several decades (until a pretty girl comes along and shows her the power of love and friendship again).

20. Do any of your OCs sing? If they sing, care to share more details (headcanon voice, what kind of songs they like etc)?

OH OH I don't know about specifically singing per se, but in my head Nevada sounds close to Marina (and the diamonds), specifically in Guilty and The Outsider. Maybe it's because both have heavily inspired me to write Nevada's backstory, so I automatically assigned them her voice. Alternative is Devil's Lighthouse by The Correspondents, for the same reason.

Since I was talking about Illana, her voice is kind of otherworldly and reminds regular people of songbirds, I think her singing would sound really nice. Maybe she sings to herself sometimes in the years she is all alone, something from the time when children ran and played around her temple. But I imagine she would try her best to stop herself when she notices she's doing it.

I didn't really care much I think. Maybe I knew he's Otacon's dad, and that's kind of it.

Oh I'm a bit unwell about this guy sorry. There's this one post about him I wrote (twirls hair) I think it was pretty good. I really like how he is the polar opposite of most of the other male characters in the series. Among the people a bunch of whom have various physical disabilities, only his gets used against him consistently and to such an extent. Kaz is a filthy hypocrite for treating him like he does in v, and I think it adds to his character and draws a lot of similarities between them (even if the narrative doesn't really openly acknowledge it). I like his photos on the AI pod and that he put his child in a fucking murder robot he built. I have many, many thoughts on him but as a sidenote why did they make him so fine in tpp. now looking back he always kind of was but I don't think it did anything for me because he wasn't on the floor shaking and crying. who said that. why did everyone leave. can anyone hear me.

Favorite moment

Hm I'm not sure honestly. I find his overall story really compelling, if I had to pick maybe the one where he yells at Diamond Dogs about how DD is not even a real dog, and they don't listen to him. I like when he shoots Skull Face and goes yess!!!! I did it!!!!! sure did buddy.

Idea for a story

He gets his ass kicked in my Paz au where she goes back in time and looks for another traitor with Kaz. Aside from that, I don't think I have anything Huey-related.

Unpopular opinion

I LOVE HIM. Awful terrible horrible guy who you tell to shut up once and then he kills himself in front of you five billion times and makes you feel bad. If the circumstances of his life had been different he could've been a brilliant scientist, acknowledged by the world and living a fulfilling and happy life, but they weren't.

Favorite relationship

Is his relationship with the world around him a viable answer. He's always the victim, everyone is always out to get him, and he is always sooo so innocent and has done nothing. I think maybe part of why I like him is that his paranoia and victim complex are kind of relatable? Not to such an extent, but I can definitely see the thought process there. Especially if you've been bullied in your life before, I think it's easy to kind of get used to that stuff, that's why some people spiral - it's loneliness and expectations to be treated badly, not taken seriously. He probably knows it's not true in many situations, somewhere deep down, but admitting it means taking responsibility and he's not about to do that. And, in the end of the day, in a lot of cases it is true, and he, to some extent, is a real victim. I like when the truth serum doesn't work on him and he just continues to lie (aka tell the truth that he so deeply believes). It's so good.

Favorite headcanon

I am so curious about what his relationship with Hal was like, I like thinking that he cared, but in such a fundamentally misguided way (as he usually does) that it fucked him up BIG TIME. my dearest son whom I love oh so much, no one loves you as much as I do, our home is the only safe place you will ever get. the rest of the world is an awful and horrible place, all of them hate you and you should be scared. Kind of Mother Gothel style where he brushes his hair and says don't leave but also goes to him with all of his adult problems that the child should absolutely not carry on his shoulders. He probably was pretty absent for a lot of it, but I do like thinking they did spend time together and talked, somewhat. It's interesting to think that it was part of the reason Hal shut the world and other people out for so long.

Overanalyzing him under a microscope, what else can I say that I haven't said before. He is always the most normal person in the room but only because everybody else is even worse and not because he's actually normal. I'm obsessed with every decision in the First Encounter that he makes.

Favorite relationship

I love ocelhira but most of it are headcanons or lore made up by me. Probably him and Venom, I like thinking that Kaz and Medic were friends, so it adds another interesting layer to their relationship on top of all of the canon mess.

I read somewhere about how he would've taken dd with him when leaving Diamond Dogs and I think it's a really fun one. Taking the baby in the divorce.

Ahhh I'm not sure what the actual full sentence is since I tend to make a bunch of disjointed notes, but it might have been "They both have bled plenty for John's sake, but somehow Kaz always has it much worse." which I actually rewrote just now as I was typing this out because it was pissing me off that it rhymed (it was a Big Boss/much worse combo)

19. the most interesting topic you’ve researched for a fic

Maybe it's not THAT interesting but I read about Las Vegas strip and casinos a bit for an ocelhira fic chapter, specifically about Stardust Hotel. I really like their sign, it's really pretty, and they had a real moon rock you could take a look at there at the time it takes place :D also its founder's last name was also Miller which Ocelot has a quip about because he's the trivia nerd. I watched videos on poker (Texas Hold'em specifically) for the same reason too since I didn't know how to play it, and it comes up like twice before other stuff starts to go down.

Don't know if it counts as research but I watched 1971 western McCabe & Mrs. Miller solely because of the name so I could make a very subtle reference to it, in the same chapter. It took me so fucking long to finish writing it because I was procrastinating and not wanting to untangle all of this info. The main character's love interest is naturally Mrs. Miller and she did remind me of Kaz a bit. Ocelot uses McCabe's last name as a fake one, and the character's first actual name in the movie is John, which is. a plain name idk what else to say here. they play poker in the opening scene there too.

I DID try to understand how to fly a Huey, the helicopter model that Kaz can pilot for another chapter of the same fic (and whether or not you can do it with one hand which. I am still not sure about but I think that's what the second pilot is for so it's fine). I watched a few videos with bodycams of pilots flying them, mainly just the beginning bit with how to start it. Their official name is Bell UH-1 Iroquois, and the machine guns on them are nicknamed Cobras, which is pretty funny. I am yet to be done with this chapter, but I don't think I can write the trivia into it this time, maybe I'll leave it in the notes.

Venimmm I love him so much I've been told he's literally me 👍 everything that's happened to him is absolutely horrifying get him out of here and give him a break.

Kaz surely <3 I also like vocelot, but I don't think it would be romantic, they would just be weird about each other (I made you in the image of a person I am obsessed with and we are stuck together in the middle of nowhere & you erased my identity and accidentally made it so you're the one person I trust the most. also we're both obsessed with blood and murder and mindless devotion. surely our dynamic is gonna be normal. something like that).

My non-romantic OTP for this character

Vquiet. I have so many thoughts on them they trust each other so much. Also Medic and Paz, it's obvious that they were close and that she meant a lot to him.

My unpopular opinion about this character

Hm maybe that Venom was actually aware that he isn't BB before reveal of the Truth, not sure how common that is. Also he wasn't interested in Quiet romantically or sexually.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

More hallucinations. I think they play off a literal shrapnel lodged into his head a little too lightly. Would've loved a finished mission 51 or just more Eli interactions OR for tpp to end with a more obvious reference to Venom going to fight Solid. Also more everyday shit to do on Mother Base so I could see Venom's casual interactions with other characters like Code Talker (and Kaz. and Ocelot. and everyone else). I'd eat that up.

BBKaz fic recs *where Big Boss isnt abusive (or overtly)*? :3 While many BBkaz fics are good they also portray Kaz as accepting Big Boss abusing him. There are fics where hes clearly verbally or physically abusive to Kaz and i just CANT imagine Kaz like that. A lot of people make him the submissive bf because hes flamboyant which ?? this is the guy willing to die to take some men out? the guy who ambushed Snake after being captured?? the guy who trained soldiers in afghanistan??? Kaz isnt some defenseless baby UwU the man and Big Boss were on equal foot back in MSF, and Kaz was just as much of a manipulative bastard. HELL id say he was the one who pushed for Big Boss darker tendencies sorry for the rant :3 but Kaz being thrown around is so OOC it takes me out. Its just not who he is

YES thank you for the rant?? I. yeah I get that. that kind of interpretation is not something I can understand with how I view Kaz at all. Of course what they had wasn't what we'd call healthy, but the way it's portrayed sometimes just doesn't feel right. We're talking Kaz, the person who's been burning with anger and hatred since the day he was born and who still described Snake as his trusted partner and friend for years.

Funnily enough, that's the same reason I can't ever see him being with BB after events of V, in any interpretation of the phrase. It's an interesting thing to explore, but he just wouldn't. if Kaz loves a person, he loves them, if he hates them, he hates. forever. no compromise. and then he dies.

I don't really have long fics that fit the criteria (that I know of), hope that's fine. With all that being said.

Short n sweet msf era fic one, two and three. Different authors, but I think they go together well.

The formatting is a bit weird on this, but maybe it's just mobile, it's great either way. They're clueless and pining.

Enjoyed how much this one focuses on Kaz's thoughts. It finds a really nice middle ground between not making them overly abusive while also showing how complicated their relationship is. This one also fits the description I think, but the atmosphere is a lot less tense.

Foxhound era transfem Kaz fic in first person, I know. People often don't like that. Still recommend it. Aside from having a headcanon I love, I really liked how it's written.

The one where they go to a gay bar for a mission. I mean really what more is there to say.

Probably not what you want, but for me it's right on that edge of how I can see a meeting between them going in the years after tpp. Let Kaz be angry about it, let him be protective of his new life that doesn't have bb in it, that's the good stuff.

The focus is not quite on bbkaz but it's exactly the kind of unnerving that I'm a fan of. Loved the writing here a lot.

This one kind of. does not fit the non-abusive description, and it's also in second person, but this is the first and I think only time I read a serious take on Big Boss's pov that felt RIGHT. It has so much interesting character exploration that I honestly can't not recommend it. Re-read one of my favorite paragraphs for this, and man, I have A LOT to say about this fic, but better just read it, really. Keep in mind that it's unfinished though, but it's been updated some time ago. If you do like this one, this author has another bbkaz fic that I enjoyed.

To be honest I haven't actually read that much bbkaz (as in I don't think I went through the whole tag which is "not that much" only arguably), but I hope there is at least something in here that you like! Thanks for the ask, this made me want to go finish the fic that I have haha.

Do you have metal gear fanfic recommendations

I have so many ocelhira fics that I like, and I did write more down in my notes while answering this, but I think it's too much for one post, so feel free to ask for more if you ever want to! But here we go.

This is one of my favorites their dynamic in it is great, I love when people give them actual history and it's obvious they've known each other for years. And another from the same author if you don't mind Kaz getting killed. They have so much other mgs stuff as well.

Really like the characterisation and dialogs in this one, it's pretty short, but feels very on-point, especially for Ocelot. Definitely one of the best I've seen.

My really cool mutual has a bunch of ocelhira fics, very fond of the Parasite Kaz au and the one that I sort of indirectly caused (but they ran with it and did so much more)

Nine year gap fic that is part of a series, and all of them are great, but I think this was my favorite.

They get high in this one as they should. Also parasite Kaz, and the way it's written is really creative. Very much one of my favorites.

Great fic by vlasdygoth here on tumblr, who is also an amazing artist, definitely check them out if you haven't before (you probably have if you're ever in the mgs tag)

And at last, Master Miller's Guide to Surviving the 2000s. Can't recommend it enough. First of all, this author's fics are hilarious in general. Second, this specific series also and especially is. The first few are a lot of fun, and the last part is heavily ocelhira and surprisingly serious. Really encourage to look through their other fics too, there's a lot of great stuff in there that I liked a lot.

I tried picking ones where (most) of the plot outweighs the porn but hey, I can always make another list if you want, I have a bunch more. 18. How about a relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?

Hm admire. You taught me that I can give answers that aren't quite literal so his relationship with himself. Like half of it is just in my head because mg2 Master Miller doesn't get much characterization but I like thinking that he goes through a long hatered/uncertainty about himself - anger and hatred towards the world - acceptance that things are shit but he can move forward and make the world a better place pipeline throughout all of the games. I think he is to me a weird sign that you can be happy eventually even after going through hell. I know he gets divorced and dies in Alaska but those are not mutually exclusive.

For the character ask thing, Decoy Octopus! No just kidding lol I'm gonna give you a Death Stranding character instead. Since you're new to the game and you might not have spent too much time thinking about the characters, choose one between these three: Fragile, Cliff Unger, Deadman.

Fragile!!!!!!!! Sorry I saw she was there and the decision was instantly made. Shame it's not Decoy Octopus though, love that guy and his many appearances (pun intended) in the game. And I do love both Deadman and Cliff. Fragile is just. I love her so much.

First impression

Being highly confused and intrigued about the world, that's what most of my attention was on during her introduction. Loved the spiky jacket!!! And I do love her umbrella, it's such a fun shape and. texture? I don't think they ever said what it's made of but it looks transparent and reflective and solid all at the same time? It's a really cool design. I like that she's a pretty mysterious character for a while and you know that she's There somewhere but not what she wants with Sam or overall.

Impression now

She seems pretty reserved and polite, but in a way that feels genuine. She respects people, even if they don't always respect her back, but she also doesn't seem the type to just take people's shit. Maybe she has been for a bit after people started labeling her as a terrorist, I feel like there was a lot of self-pity there that was well earned, she basically gave up her life for people who she thought would never know or appreciate it. I think her meeting Sam helped her a lot with processing all of that, and the fact that he let everyone know about what really went down must have been such a shock and relief, even if she didn't show it that much. I really like how happy she is about eating cryptobiots and offering them to Sam, and I love when he eventually takes one.

Also about Kojima's writing of women and in general, I think they are like fine wine, as in is better each year (the writing of women was a pretty shitty wine to start with though. magically got good in ds, and I genuinely wonder why, it hasn't been that long since v). She doesn't fall into the mother/sister/love interest pitfall a lot of his female characters do. I do love Amelie!! I do love Mama!!! Motherhood and family are very important themes of ds, but with the context of his previous games Fragile feels like breaking the pattern, which is great!! Decpite the running in her underwear in the rain bit, the way she's is written is kind of the polar opposite of Quiet. In terms of how society perceives bodies of older women its considered unsexy and whatnot, and the aftermath of what happened to her makes her hide her body as opposed to wearing a bikini. But it doesn't exactly feel like it's out of shame, even though it was definitely meant to be a humiliation when Higgs did it, it feels like Fragile still has so much dignity to her. I like that she is conflicted about her sacrifice and wishes she hadn't done it. Makes her feel very raw and real. It made me happy that the state of her body wasn't treated weirdly by anyone around her, and I get that it's because of the nature of the universe and that a lot of people must be affected by timefall all the time, but it still made me happy!!

Favorite moment

The forehead touch and conversation as she sent Sam to rescue Amelie, and the talk near the lake after she and Sam get rid of the bomb. When her and Sam are on the ship too, it was a quiet nice moment. I like when she pronounces fragile weirdly.

Idea for a story

I had a silly thing in mind where a bunch of characters ask Sam on a date to shoot their shot, and he ends up rejecting all of them, Fragile included albeit with the implications that it's sort of reciprocated but also things are complicated, and they both are fine with where they stand. I'll be honest, I thought I didn't really like any ships with Sam, but I really like his dynamic with Fragile, romantic or not.

I would've loved to think up something cool about the time she and Higgs worked together. We get a glimpse of Higgs' perspective on their relationship during that time, but very little of hers, only the stuff that's already clouded with her desire for revenge and not how she really felt at the time.

Favorite relationship

Her and Sam. I really liked how respectful she was about his phobia, with everyone else there were points where they obviously forgot about it or used it for intimidation, and I kind of hated that since I do share it to some extent. She also kind of seemed to do that a few times, like when she was telling him about her history with Higgs, but even then she still kept her distance in a way that didn't feel the same as with other characters. I really liked that about her. Her and Higgs also. And I do think she's at least sort of friends with the rest of the main guys, the scenes of them sending Sam off and then rescuing him are so, so good.

Favorite headcanon

Ahh I don't think I have anything. I've read very few death stranding fics but there was this short one I really like where Fragile travels with Sam on bikes for a bit and they race. She also uses his shower a bunch and leaves or takes stuff around his rooms in it, I liked that idea a lot. It's the casual intimacy of something small, I feel like they understand each other in their love for solitude, so they can be alone together and be content with it.
