I often get told “no gerbera; they don’t last and their heads droop”. Just yesterday I was asked not to include them in an order for this reason, so I thought I’d share with you some I have at home.

I bought them on the 21st March; they were on ‘Special Offer’ so were most likely already a good few days (possibly even a week) old by the time I took them home. I cut their stems, put them in water and as you can see, three weeks later they’ve not drooped and are still very much alive and thriving.

There are no pins through their necks or wires in their heads holding them upright. There’s no flower food (a total gimmick) lemonade, sugar or any other random thing you may have been told to add to the water. They are literally stood in just a couple of inches of tap water. Nothing more, nothing less.

I have completed a water change every 3 days and each time I’ve taken a mere sliver from the bottom of the stem – this helps stop the bottom from sealing over and not being able to take up any more water. Thats it. I’ve done nothing else to them. In fact, for their first 5 days of life they sat on my bathroom sink in front of a window (do not do as I have done in this situation though. Please always keep flowers away from windowsills and any other source of heat.) the saving grace being its north facing and gets no sun - not that we’ve had any sun anyway!

When I reached the shop this morning, I discovered a small, unexpected surprise on the forecourt: a pile of 💩.

Irritated, I accessed the doorbell app with the intention of identifying and perhaps shaming the negligent owner responsible.

However, upon seeing the mischievous perpetrators, I couldn't help but smile—though I remain displeased that they selected my forecourt as the location for their deposit! 😆

A few weeks ago I was asked to make a JCB... The challenge to myself was whether I got Chris to print the scoop & bucket, whether I bought a toy & ripped those off or I crafted them myself... I'm glad I chose to trust myself... my customer loved it too 🧡💛

Another beautiful full casket spray - this one was over 60" in length - created for one of our customers this week.

The red roses (Monte Carlo) were a variety I have never used before and were absolutely stunning with large heads and a solid form. The green roses (Camouflage) were slightly smaller but were always intended to take a back seat. Interspersed with them were green santini & a red chrysant, green lisianthus, white single chrysant, red carnations and a mix of foliages including eucalyptus.

It's that season again… the peonies (whilst massively expensive) are available in a multitude of colours. These red ones are huge and simply stunning.

As many of you know, we at the shop are staunch advocates for Fareham Men's Shed and many times I've displayed (and ordered) many items the gents have made... these, however, are most definitely some of my favourites...

They can be used for plants, pot pourri, keys and even fresh flowers - which once ready for the compost heap leaves them open to be reused/repurposed.

You can purchase them 'Ready Made' or in a kit form to build/paint yourselves.

I only have the 2 on display inside the shop but as you can see from the photographs there are many different breeds to choose from.

Just to remind you all the shop is now closed until 10am on Weds 3rd April so I can have a few days 'RnR' (decorating!) and enjoying the beautiful British Bank Holiday weather! 🥴

I'm blessed - occasionally cursed - to still have my Mum to treat on this Mothers Day 2024. So many of my customers are not as lucky so today I want to remember all the Mums whose children can't physically visit them with flowers and chocolates 💔 💐
