One of my favorite raptors to see, the American Kestrel. This little guy was finishing his lunch and allowed me to get a few close-ups before flying away.

Two of my most favorite people invited me to go with them out to the Farmington Bay Bird Refuge to look for eagles... we saw only one which was really far away and I don't have a lens that would have been able to capture him appropriately... so we looked for other photo opportunities... Anyone that has been out shooting with me knows that I love trees... When I saw this bird in this tree up on a hill with the white hazy sky in the background I just had to shoot it... sometimes hazy grey mornings can create some interesting images... 😊 . . . . . #tree #treeoflife #highkey #bird #ut #utah #wowutah #pictureline #nature #landscape #utahphotographer #utahlandscape #farmington #farmingtonbay (at Farmington Bay Bird Refuge)

A Great Blue Heron just hanging out and watching all the photographers. These birds always amaze me. Their size and gracefulness either while standing of flying.

I had been looking for this bird for a while. I knew about where they were, have heard them in the tall grass and seen lots of pics. The Virginia Rail had always eluded me. I was very happy to add this one to my life list of birds.

I watched this Harrier Hawk circling around for a bit looking for a meal. It landed in this post long enough for me to get a couple of pics. A beautiful bird and a fierce hunter.

With the mild start to winter we had in Utah it brought us lots of chances to capture pics of the bald eagles. They migrate here to escape the harsh winters in the north. This pair at Farmington Bay gave us lots of photo opportunities and we’re always a sight to see.

This Ring Billed Gull had a lot to say. I’m not so sure it enjoyed getting its picture taken.

The Great Blue Herons do enjoy these nesting perches at Farmington Bay. There is almost always one checking out the view from here.

Just one of the many Black Crowned Night Herons we saw in January at Farmington Bay. I had never seen that many gathered together in one place before.

The Sandhill Cranes are headed back to Farmington Bay. I saw one right by the entrance in the early morning hours yesterday. I heard a couple others calling out along the side of the road. Really cool bird to see and hope to get some more shots of them.
