CATCHING MY DEATH, AND I COULDN’T BE SURE

When people go missing, Dimitri is one of the first people to notice. Some would say he was nosier than he should be, sticking himself into people's business when no one wanted him there, but he couldn't help it. Ever since he was a kid, Dimitri had a knack for being places he shouldn't, hearing whispers that were never meant to be heard and packing them away in a drawer deep in the back of his mind for safe keeping - and possible blackmail if he ever needed it. In an ideal world, Dimitri would get paid to putting these skills to use but no one wanted anything to do with a young man who never went to university, barely scraped by in school, and who claimed to be able to find any missing person if you gave him enough time...and they were right to be suspicious because he was full of it. Dimitri knew how to spin a tale, put in the work to build a con that would fool practically anyone as long as they didn't dig too much or look too close. It helped that he had a way, a gift, to make people believe whatever reality he told them was true - for a period of time anyway.

Mysteries have always been something Dimitri cannot get enough of and, while he might make up scams and cons like it's his job, he couldn't make up his obsession with trying to solve them. One in particular has always been a favorite - the disappearance of a daughter of one of Russia's richest families. No one knew what happened to her and he had a particular interest since she was only a few years younger than him. After some theories surfaced online about where she was, how she was still out there, Dimitri decided to take it upon himself to find her. What could possibly go wrong? He scammed his way through every town and city he went through until he got to Evermore. Every conman needs an escape route and his was cut off at the waist. He couldn't go anywhere and worst of all, he couldn't remember why he was even in this town. He had notes upon notes about the Russian heiress and he knew it had to do with that and that the answers to the mystery, and many more, resided within Evermore.

he was born thirty-three years ago, is a human and lives in white oaks as a mechanic at bolt's auto repair shop. he looks an awful lot like casey deidrick.

From the moment he was born, Finch was told he had to act and be a certain way. It was important for the family, or moreover it was important for his father. His father was a high powered lawyer, who strived for excellence and had an image to uphold. As the younger son, he wasn’t pressured as much as his older brother was. But he was taught that everything he said or did mattered, That he wasn’t going to embarrass the family, but talking. Due to this, Finch was a quiet child, finding solace in his reading or writing. Making sure he stayed out of his father’s way. His father was happy with this, for he didn’t care much about his children. As far he was concerned that was his wife or the nannies were for. On the few occasions Finch was found underfoot of his father, his father made sure to tell him that he was a mistake and that Richard never wanted him.

During high school, Finch discovered he was gay. He always found solace hiding the stacks in the library and it was here he had his first kiss with a boy from his English class. Though Finch was shocked at first, he wasn't confused. Instead it helped him understand a few missing pieces of himself. Finch went home, wanting to talk about it with his parents. So he could learn and understand more. But the coming out didn’t happen as Finch quite planned it would. As soon as the words I’m gay slipped past his lips, he found himself sprawled on the floor, his cheek stinging and his father standing over. His father told Finch that no son of his is gay and if he wanted to stay under his roof and eat his food then he would learn to turn it off and not speak of it again. Finch lay there dazed, as his father left him. His mother just watched, not stepping in to help her son out. Thankfully Michael, Finch’s older brother stepped in, picked him off the floor and took him to his room. Where Finch and Michael were able to talk, in hushed whispers. Though Michael was happy and proud of Finch, he told Finch it would be better if he kept it to himself. Until after high school, he didn’t want to see Finch getting hurt by their father.

When Finch attended college, he knew this would be his time to explore more about himself. Though he still lived at home, he had more freedom as his father started to travel for work more and mother wasn’t interested in her youngest son. Michael had left home, and forged his own life away from the house and Finch knew it was time he did the same. Finch thrived at college, he made new friends, and was doing well in his classes. Things were looking up for Finch, until Finch made a mistake that changed everything. One day when he knew his father wasn’t going to be home, he invited his friend over to do some study for the ethics class, not thinking much of it. Finch took the other down to his room in the basement. After a few hours of study, the two were having a small break and were chattering away when the next thing Finch knew, his friend was kissing. Finch made no effort to stop the other, in fact he leaned into the kiss. Enjoying the feeling of it. Unknown to Finch, his father had returned early and came down to make sure Finch did the coursework. If he was going to waste money on Finch attending college, he was going to make sure Finch did the work. When he found the two boys kissing, Richard went into a rage, throwing Finch’s friend to the ground before he turned on Finch.

Finch didn’t turn up at college for two weeks, but when he did. His right arm was in a sling, and there was bruising fading from his face. Finch made sure to keep his head down and avoided all contact with his friend. Finch lasted a month before he transferred out.

Finch ended up moving in with his brother and his brother’s girlfriend. Michael was angry at what his father had done to Finch, but also felt guilty that he wasn’t there to protect his younger brother. Finch told him not too, that there wasn’t anything he could have done. While living with Michael, Finch once again thrived, he went to therapy to get help he needed. He dropped out of college fully and ended following in his brother’s footsteps of becoming a firefighter. Finch enjoyed his work, and the family he found with the station he worked at. Then he got the news that his brother’s now wife was expecting a baby. Everything seemed to be working out for the small family. But all that joy and excitement soon turned sour when the baby was born two months early and had signs of Cerebral Palsy. Finch, Michael and Natalie spent months going back and forth to the hospital, making sure that baby James was never alone. After the second month, the family got the good news that James could be discharged and could finally go home. Though they knew that it was going to be a fight, they were just happy to be the newest member of their family home. Soon James was a thriving, happy baby. He had a loving family that loved him. Finch enjoyed being in his nephew’s life, being able to help his brother out. The three of them found a routine that worked and kept balance with their busy lives.

Then everything came crashing down around them. Michael 's firehouse was called out, to what meant to be just a small blaze at a warehouse. But when they got there, it was a large fire that was quickly getting out of hand. Michael and three other firefighters went in to see if they could find anyone trapped inside, when the whole building collapsed around them, trapping them inside. Finch, who was also working at the time, but at another fire was soon pulled off of the job and escorted to the hospital where he was informed his brother had died.

Michael's wife couldn’t handle the loss of her husband, suffered a full mental breakdown, and had to be admitted so that she could try and get help. For her to understand and come to terms with his husband’s death. But doctors told Finch it seemed like a lost cause and they weren’t sure if they could bring her back.

Finch found himself the legal guardian of his nephew, Michael and Natalie made sure that if anything were to happen. That James would go to Finch, because they knew he was the best person to raise their son. Unfortunately their father didn’t think, and he made Finch aware of it. Soon the threats started, and in no uncertain terms Finch was told that if he slipped up just once, or decided to live his life as a gay man then Richard would do everything he could to make sure he lost James.

Finch quickly packed his and James’s life up, wanting to get as far away from his dad as possible. But also wanting a fresh start for James, that wasn’t going to be overshadowed by his parent’s death, that he soon settled them into Greywood and hopped it would be what they both need to heal and learn to live again.
