‘One of the strengths of CNN is that the feature map at each layer is an image that can be visualized. We report in Figure 4 a selection of features maps from the output of the first and second layers. We can see that the first layer contains some low pass or directional filtering whereas layer two contains more semantic information.

The First 30 Days

Hola, By popular demand (okay, three friends, but it's all relative), here's a recap of how my first month working at London's Ticketmaster office has been. For context, my entire professional career had been at TELUS, starting with a cohort of New Grads nearly six years ago. As such, I knew a new chapter anywhere would feel like a dramatic change with a steep learning curve. That, combined with knowing I'd sought out a challenging Product Management role, meant I was mentally prepared for a tough time ahead. Thankfully, it's been great! Yes, it's a complex tech stack. Yes, there are acronyms galore. Yes, it's a large multinational with truly international teams and dependencies, but everyone's been both welcoming and understanding that learning the ropes takes months. I was quite lucky to start a day before the quarterly plan presentations which, while largely went way over my head, allowed me to immediately start putting faces to names and initiatives, in addition to seeing how our senior leadership team is as passionate as it is hilarious! Some key reasons why I've had an enjoyable onboarding experience include: - Our receptionists are awesome! Super friendly since my interview day and especially helpful whenever I got lost (there's two interconnected buildings, c'mon!) - Project info is largely stored on a dynamic intranet, meaning there's a wealth of information I can dive into instead of relying on people to send me attachments for me to read up on past/ongoing initiatives, by whom, etc. - My manager was amazing at pre-scheduling plenty of intro 1:1s with a wide variety of team members for me to gain a broad understanding of operations, my stakeholders and more - I was encouraged to set up shadowing sessions with several behind-the-scenes teams to gain a hands-on understanding of the business processes to make the magic happen - Every Wednesday, our open concept "caf" (massive kitchen plus games tables, booths and lounge space) has an affordable, healthy lunch vendor come in with options covering most dietary restrictions -- great to break the ice with people you'd never meet otherwise - Overall, our office has a casual vibe and fairly flexible work hours, with everyone managing their time to suit their needs, including squeezing a coffee or lunch at one of the many great options nearby, always a perk! - Finally, for my former work peeps, the greatest difference has been to adapt to a fairly quiet and civilized environment. Definitely more of a Garden than a Seymour vibe, I haven't had anything thrown at me... yet? As for the role itself, I'm currently still in the discovery and validation phase of what I'd like to propose as my product roadmap. I'm using FeatureMap, a great tool to visualize the buckets of work similar to Trello but with Jira integration to enable getting into the implementation details once we're in the build phase. My product will partly take an MVP another team has built, adapt it to suit my markets' needs, as well as improve the overall experience, all while trying to leverage existing services or building new ones to address any gaps. Super excited to eventually reveal it but for now, I'll keep it hush hush. Nighttime here before my 5th Monday... what a difference a month makes! Pam
