FFXIV: They're asked to dress up as Santa to visit the Firmament's Orphanage

A/N: Aha so I am starting off my 25 days advent calendar with this!

Note: I'm just kinda writing Zephirin how I'd imagine he's like outside of the tempering

Characters: Aymeric, Estinien, Haurchefant, Zephirin

He already dresses as the Azure Elephant

but no one knows its him right?

so he wouldn't mind dressing up in a Santa suit for the kids of the orphanage

it also gave him the chance to check to make sure everything is in order

it needed to be safe for the children there

he could sneak away so he wouldn't have to sit at his desk and do any paperwork for a change

his costume would be in good shape with minimal patches in different areas that needed fixed

he would be asked simply because he'd been a reliable Santa in previous years

not even Aymeric knew

oh yes he did

the costume would be a bit worse for wear

the color would be fading

if Tataru ever caught wind of the costume's condition, I'm sure she would strangle him fix it for him

he would take a big sac of toys for all of the kids

unsurprisingly, the children would flock to him

and he would be

When the opportunity arises, he would agree to it whole-heartedly

a knight helps others

and knowing that so many children are alone and forgotten about on Christmas, he'd make it his duty to give them a little holiday cheer and hope and care

he would even spend a portion of his Christmas at the orphanage giving gifts to them

and just spending time with them so they have someone

he'd make it a yearly habit to dress up as Santa

He is a Knight of the Heaven's Ward, he will do what is asked of him

personally I think he would make it a habit of going every year

he was the nicer of the Heaven's Ward and was respectable

if anything, he'd be the example for the rest of the Heaven's Ward

his costume would be pristine and in good shape

chances are he had a few extras just in case of a rip or tear

and despite him dressing up as Santa, he had no intention of ruining the magic for these kids

On raising.

If there's one thing I've learned in my work, it's that brushing up against death strips everyone bare. People on the brink behave incredibly strangely, and I make a habit of raising strangers. I learn to expect the unexpected.

A short list of things people have done upon being brought back to life:

1. Vomit.

2. Immediately begin to curse me out. (This one is quite common. Don't be alarmed. Usually, it's either because they're in pain, or they think you're the enemy. Only sometimes are they actually cursing at you. Those are interesting times.)

3. Sock me in the jaw. (Related to the above.)

4. Tell me what they "saw on the other side" like it's a deeply urgent matter. All well and good, if you aren't on a battlefield. We are usually on a battlefield.

5. Completely ignore me and get right back up.

6. Die again. (This one was supposed to be funny, but it's not, is it?

Another tip for those learning the art of succor: your sense of humor will change. Learn what jokes not to tell in casual settings.)

The first time you raise a fallen warrior and see them finish out the battle, see them live to have a drink with their companions that night, you will feel like a god.

The first time you pour your magic into a corpse that just won't get up, trying one more time, two more times, five more times, and only realizing you're too late when someone lays a hand on your shoulder... Well, you won't feel like one anymore.

Listen to me right now. You will fail. Nobody should expect you to keep everybody alive forever, and if they do, they are ignoring the truth of war, which is that people are going to die. Your job is to make that number lower than it would be otherwise.

I suppose the good news is I have had incentive to sleep.

Thordan had Aymeric when he was 42. When he was damn old enough to know better. Out of wedlock child when you're 20, barely of Elezen age? You're a young idiot but you can be forgiven and expected to do better. Out of wedlock child at age 42? This fucker wasn't making one "oopsy" after 20ish years of pious celibacy. This was a pattern.

How many half-siblings do y'all think Aymeric has?

. . . A few members of the Heavens' Ward kinda resemble him or Thordan.

Haumeric, Adelphel, Noudenet. Adelphel and Noudenet in particular have those startlingly blue eyes. Weird. I'm sure it's a coincidence. Not to mention if someone resembled their mother more than their father. And what was going on with Zephirin expected to be the Lord Commander? (The only Ward member who's definitely not Thordan's son is Grinnaux de Dzemael, not necessarily because he comes from a Great House but because his skin is pretty dark.) Anyroad. I'm sure Archbishop Thordan wouldn't pull from an available pool of young men desperate for his attention when only he knew their true connection if he had something he needed loyal followers for. Nope.
