so i was rewatching some heavensward cutscenes for ResearchTM and when lucia first mentions the rumors about aymeric being thordan’s son, estinien’s reaction is to cross his arms and say “lies and slander.” even tho we--and aymeric--know those rumors to be true. so it makes me wonder: did this just never come up between the two of them??? did estinien just flat out refuse to believe the rumors and aymeric just never said otherwise even tho it was a huge part of his character angst???

is a character tied to the server you create it in? like do you need to make a new character for every server you want to play on, so if i would want to play with another mutual but i made my guy on a different server than them im fucked? this might be a really dumb question but listen i have NO idea about how any of this works

i really enjoy the professions in ffxiv but i can’t really progress with them the way i want to without progressing through the msq, which like. was fine by me, i liked the story - up until stormblood. this stupid expansion has been such a slog. i’m close to finishing it i think thankfully but then i’ve gotta do all the patch content between stormblood and shadowbringers which i fear will suck just as much as stormblood does

Hrm... doesn't look like Mateus or Balmung will be open anytime soon. So, debating on if I should just transfer Xi over to Malboro until whenever. Decisions decisions.

every race/gender combo has a selection of voices to choose from that will affect the sounds your character makes while in combat, and also certain emotes like /laugh, /cheer, and /fume.

also every race/gender combo has an assortment of emotes that are unique to that combo. /dance and /joy are different between male and female of the same race, and a male viera’s is different from a male elezen’s. the one exception is with the clans of hyur, where midlanders and highlanders each have unique emotes.

(male elezen’s /bow, female roegadyn’s /pose, female miqo’te’s /dance, and male miqo’te’s /joy are some of my personal favorites)

It's so so sooo funny to me that Estinien started as a faceless edgy shounen antagonistic grump in the 1.0 Legacy/ARR Dragoon quests. Now he's a main supporting character and part of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.

And he's also becoming FFXIV's official thirst trap at this point. Like.

Remember that official promo illustration (x) that was posted on the FFXIV Twitter during the height of the pandemic? The one with a very sweaty, very scarred, very ripped Estinien in naught but boxer shorts doing one armed pushups. No other character had an illustration that was so overtly horny bait.

And then in Endwalker, Estinien shows up at your room in leather pants and a mostly unbuttoned shirt with rolled up sleeves in a scene straight out of a dating sim. It's one of the more expensive scenes in the expansion according to Yoshi P (x) because of the part where they animated Estinien jumping out of your window. But not before a lingering shot of his foot stanced on the balcony railing and his leather clad thighs and crotch region. But not before it looks like he's walking towards your bed when he enters your room. But not before he tells you that you have his lance in a tone of innuendo. Also he never wears those clothes again. Estinien shows up in a glam of which the pants and shirt together typically run at over one million gil... just for that optional scene.

I don't know who on the FFXIV dev team is leading the march of making Estinien into fanservice fodder... but I'm not complaining.

90% of the time i hate how expansive the ffxiv playerbase is bc there are too many freaks i want to gatekeep this game from, but sometimes im happy bc it means statistically every NPC has at least 1 person shipping their wol with them.

anyway i downloaded the free trial again last night. ...if my ps4 finished it while in sleepmode ill have to check i just came home. anyway last time i played i just made a cute viera because im not immune to ass and bunny ears and then played like a couple hours, on my own, and got bored as usual and gave up again.

meaning ill have to make a new character again and while ive been told that you can change classes later and gameplay isnt complicated it still all feels very overwhelming and a bit scary like i have NO clue about mmorpg laws this is like the wild west to me. also while im gamercoded im also a. terrible gamer. i stick to turn based, vns or easy mode in action for a reason. lifes hard enough you know

at least when i hit 70 i get to try a new class. i like dancer and all but i wanna move on tbh. so i’m gonna try reaper, it’ll be my first melee dps job
