❝ Were we in love? Is that why it hurts to look at you? Because this soul you plucked out and put inside this body is crying out at seeing the villain you've made yourself to be, all for me? ❞
❝ ...yes, we loved each other. In my grief, I succumbed to my weakness. And in doing so, I damned you to this fragile body, this diluted and frail soul that is but a small fraction of who you once were. How can I bear to look upon you, when you look at me so? You are right to hate me, I hate myself. ❞
❝ But I don't hate you. That's the problem. I love you. But is it me, the one who has lived this new life you've given me - or is it her? ❞

shadowbringers drabble ft. aea (@tenalac) “Correct me if I am wrong, but I seem to recall only inviting Selphie. I very much remember making that distinction, but then again, I suppose I am hardly surprised you would be inclined to be so rude as to show up uninvited and unannounced. Suppose better you than that white-haired dolt fawning over her.”
Aea stood there wordlessly, hands gripped into fists as she watched the man who spoke such disdainful words towards her walked up - looking at her as he might a pesky bug waiting to be stomped.
“Well then, dare I ask what possessed you to come wandering in?” Emet-Selch drawled, “Did you abandon Selphie then? Assume she will find some way to save the day as she always does, while you come and… what? Teach me a lesson? Why am I not surprised in the slightest.”
“Shut. Up.” Despite her best efforts to remain as cool-headed, to maintain her ever present collected, cold logical demeanor - the presence of the man before her ignited a deep hidden fury within her that Aea felt had been missing for much too long, “I'm not here for you. I'm here because Selphie ran off after YOU messed with her head. After you scared her, made her think she was going to hurt all of us. I'm here to knock the sense back into her. So get out of my way.”
For a split second, the lazy and disinterested gaze of Emet-Selch disappeared, replaced with shock before hiding it behind a sneer, “Is that so? Is that what you think? Well you're wrong. I merely stated the facts - the reality of her dire circumstances, and offered her the chance of a sweet and pleasant undoing by my hands. It is a fact. It is a reality. She cannot bear the burdens she has been given, and so I shall take them from her as my gift to her.”
A scoff escaped her lips- very nearly a full on laugh at his soliloquy before narrowing her eyes into a razor sharp glare, “You say it so nicely, you could almost convince someone you actually like her, instead of hating her. But I know better, you're just using he-”
“Don’t you dare to presume my feelings for her. Hate her? I hate what she is, the reminder of my own failings. But hate her? No. Never-” he paused, looking at Aea smugly - the corner of his lips turned up into a sneering smirk, “Why, your very existence is proof of how much I love her. For how could I have ever tried to bring back my beloved without her erstwhile friend, her most…faithful bosom companion?”
An unfamiliar feeling rose up inside her - genuine confusion and the inability to understand what he was speaking of, which only served to further ignite her tempest of anger. Anger, at least, she could understand still.
“What are you talking about? If you have something to say, say it. Quit messing around.”
But Emet-Selch only sighed, full of disdain as he offered up a dismissive wave, “Stay alive, and perhaps you shall find out. Go on, go and find Selphie. She's here, wallowing as you idly chatter with me - should you not be with her in the final moments before this wretched half-existence draws to a close? It is the least you can do, after all.”
And before she could retort back in anger - he was gone, back into the blackened void that all Ascians retreated into.

I've been going through all the mainline Final Fantasy games (and such side games as well) since I've never really played that many growing up and felt like getting into them all. Doubt I'll ever play all of the main 16, since not all of them look interesting to me, but we'll see.
Final Fantasy X This was the first one I played, back in 2014. I wanted to have at least one FF under my belt before XV came out, and X looked the most appealing. Played it and loved it. Definitely a 10/10 game for me, and I think the Sphere Grid is one of the most fun leveling systems I've seen. The story is so good, the cutscenes go hard, and the characters are really well-designed and memorable. I think one of the most important aspects of FF is a good main party, and X is one of the best in that regard.
Final Fantasy X-2 I've tried twice to get into this game, and I couldn't do it either time. I love Yuna's development from X to here, and I love the aesthetic and vibe of the game, but I couldn't get into the gameplay or how the story was paced and broken up. Maybe I'll get back to it for a 3rd time someday...
Final Fantasy Type-0 I only got this because it came with the demo for FFXV, and I dropped it pretty quickly back in 2015. I only came back to it a couple months ago (2023) and played it to completion. It was definitely a chore. The gameplay itself can be fun/addicting, but everything else is just outright boring or done in a way that makes things as joyless as possible. Especially the story, which is handled super choppily. The cast was mostly one-note (which I get was intentional, in-universe, but still...) and I only really played as Ace and Cater. Machina is probably my least favorite FF protag I can think of while writing this up. I only did one playthrough, and I know there's more in NG+, but I just have no energy to go through it again. Overall, it's like a 4/10.
Final Fantasy XV To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Not really a hot take, shitting on XV, but I mean...it is what it is. I knew it was never going to be the game I was looking forward to back in 2006, but the final product was just so far removed from anything resembling a coherent thought. The combat isn't fun, the skill tree is so boring, and the "open world" is mostly lifeless. Noct and the boys had potential, but they're barely developed or given much to do -- and don't even get me started on Luna and the rest of the side cast. There's a really good story and setting somewhere underneath all the issues, and it's impressive they released anything at all, all things considered. But man, is it just disappointing. 6/10.
Final Fantasy VIII As someone who really loved Leon in Kingdom Hearts, I was always interested in seeing the origin of the character, but just like Type-0, I could just not get into this game. I tried it in 2019, after Kingdom Hearts 3 came out and let me down -- I wanted to pivot to something in the same ball park of Square Enix, so I tried seeing if other Final Fantasy games were up my alley instead. But unfortunately, I didn't click with the gameplay, and the writing felt all over the place. From the bits of it I did play, I did enjoy Squall, Rinoa, and Selphie at least. I plan on getting back to it later, but for now I just don't see myself completing it. And after dropping X-2 and Type-0, and being let down by XV, this was the moment that made me go, "Oh, maybe Final Fantasy just isn't for me."
Final Fantasy XIV The game that made me love Final Fantasy. I've never played an MMO in my life before, but I remembered watching Ray Chase (Noct's VA) stream FFXIV once or twice before and thought it looked cool. In 2020, I got Covid and was pretty much bedridden for the next nine months, so I figured then was as good a time as any to invest myself in an MMO world to whittle away the days. "If I can't live in this world, I way as well live in another," my thought process basically was. And it ended up being a great decision. I love so much about this game, from the stories, to the characters, to the world building, to the music, etc. It's just magical through and through, and I can't wait to see where the next story arc takes us. 11/10.
Stranger of Paradise Jack Garland is an amazing protagonist, and this entire game is so fucking cool. Anyone who hates it doesn't like fun. Chaos/10. The DLC is some of the worst DLC I've ever had the displeasure of paying for, though -- never managed to finish it.
Final Fantasy XVI After XV, I was reasonably hesitant to expect much from XVI, and I remember being turned off by the aesthetic and general art direction from the first trailer. But I was really surprised by how good the game ended up being. It does feel like they're sometimes overcompensating for what they got criticized on with XV -- like having so many cutscenes to the point it feels like a movie, as opposed to how chopped up and bare boned the story in XV was, for example. But the cast is likeable, the gameplay is fun, and boy howdy some of those boss fights will live rent free in my head for the rest of time. Also, the voice acting is on another level. I really didn't enjoy the ending, though, but overall it felt like a step in the right direction for future entries. 7/10.
Final Fantasy VI Man, I just love this game. It was after XVI that I decided to play the older games and finish as many as I could, and I started with VI. I didn't expect a game from 1994 to win me over so badly, but everything about it is so fantastic. I love the whole opera vibe where it's almost like the characters are actors performing a stag play, and it has some of my favorite characters in the franchise. I love Cyan, Terra, and Celes so much. I love the scene at the opera house, the phantom train sequence, the dream world, how some dungeons and parts of the game have you split up and utilize multiple parties in tandem. The music is great. I love Kefka. And dude, the ending is my favorite ending to a Final Fantasy game that I've played so far. It basically took everything I hated about XVI's ending, but did the opposite, and it was beautiful. It was exactly the kind of ending that I needed to see after all the previous games I'd been playing. 10/10.
Final Fantasy IX Another masterpiece. If VI was like an Italian opera, XI felt to me more like a post-renaissance Disney movie. The art direction is so good, and the story is really well written. That said, I don't really care for a good chunk of the main party (Quina and Amarant especially), and like I said above, a good party is one of the most important aspects of a FF game. Zidane, Garnet, and Vivi are all amazing, and I really like Freya as well, but beyond that...meh? I wish Beatrix was a party member. I will admit though, I cheesed it by using the handicaps on the Pixel Remaster version (dealing 9999 damage by default), so I can't actually say if I like the gameplay or not, but it seemed like standard FF gameplay, and the Trance system looked cool at least. But I was just super invested in the story, and didn't want to spend a lot of time fighting. The locations and cities in this game were noticeably good, I do want to say. Overall, a solid 8/10 for me.
Final Fantasy VII I almost didn't want to play this one. It's by far the most popular one and I already knew so much about it through two decades of cultural osmosis and Kingdom Hearts, I was almost content just continuing to be the guy who could say, "Yeah, nah, I've never played FF7" just to be a hipster or whatever. But I did play it. And I can see why it's so loved. The story is so good, and unlike with IX, I actually didn't use handicaps (besides the 3x speed for grinding), and I really enjoyed the gameplay. Probably one of the more addicting gameplay loops from a FF game. The main cast is really good, even if it does have its weaker links (Cait, Yuffie, Vincent). My only real complaint is the translation felt really stiff, like even the translators didn't know what they were reading sometimes. It's probably just because it was the 90s. Still, not a big enough nitpick to not give the game a 9/10.
And that's where I am now.
I want to play Crisis Core and the 7 Remake now, since I have context for what's going on due to playing the OG 7.
And then I think IV is the pixel game I'll tackle next.
I really want to play the XIII series, since I don't believe it's as bad as I remember people claiming it was back in high school. But they're not on PS5, so that'll have to wait.

Part of the FGO X FFXIV fic that I should get to writing. One of a handful couple of fights.
The first one would involved Hylnyan protecting Exarch from Gudako's crew. They were suppose to sneak past Gudako's team but Tamamo smell/sense their spell and broke camouflage. May or may not involve some commentary from Emet
Transition into fight Its probably her Pretender class older SMN self where Ardbert, Fray and Myst step out from behind her/her shadow. Cool effects and all
Partly because Exarch is fighting alongside her and the magic of Azem's crystal.
The Heroes' Gauntlet/ Seat of Sacrifice goes brrr with the past(shards) lives of Azem like Tenzin and immortal(?) summons like the 4 Lords(and any primal she fought in life) and who I assume Azem was in other FF (Sabin, Selphie, Freya, Yuna, Penelo so far).
Also has the ability to manifest her BRD self a la Heroes' Gauntlet. so she's practically being a Cryptor-servants boss fight
If your wol(oc) were to have a boss fight what would it bee like? What would the story behind the fight be?

Untitled Fic.
Setting up my OC for Stormblood. Thancred/OC, past Haurchefant/OC mentioned. I couldn’t for the life of me, figure out a good ending line to this. I still feel like its awkward but oh well.
It was surprisingly easy to find her - she was in the first place Thancred looked. He knew that her Inn room would be empty, she didn't have many things stashed there and he knew she preferred to travel light anyway. No, he knew where she would be and despite the cold, he made his way to Camp Dragonhead to inquire. While he had made the trek to Dragonhead once or twice, he had never gone... there, where he knew she would be, most assuredly alone. It only took a few words with Emmanellain to find out the exact location, and he set out in the cold despite the chill settling into his bones. Coerthas was a far cry from the warmth of Ul'dah, and today in particular the wind seemed to have a particular bite too it. To distract himself, he mulled over the encounter that led to this possible fool's errand - an encounter from what he had thought was the least likely person to tattle on Selphie. "She wants to leave." Thancred glanced up from his near empty mug, raising an eyebrow at 129A, "She wants to what now?" She stood next to him, rigid, those odd red eyes boring into him and repeated herself, "Selphie wishes to leave Eorzea. She is planning to travel with Yugiri and Gotetsu to Doma." Thancred let out a laugh, "Well, if she wishes to help - I think Doma would do her well, although you need to be sure she doesn't get in her head to study the art of the samurai, I don't think she'd do well with such a weapon." 129A shook her head, almost patronizingly as though she were trying to talk to a very small child, "I was not finished. She intends on leaving the Scions, and..." she stops for a moment, searching for the right word, "She wishes to leave everyone behind. She intends on disappearing and hoping you all take her for dead." Her bluntness startled him, and he could only look at her in confusion trying to make sense of what she had said, "So what you're saying is... she intends on faking her death? What kind of nonse-" She interrupted, "She intends on disappearing and letting you fill in the blanks. She thinks it will be better this way, and I do not have the ability to convince her otherwise." That sparks anger in him, and he slams his drink down, "Letting us 'fill in the blanks'? What in seven hells does that mean? What in god's name is she thinking?" 129A offers him a shrug, "I do not know. She is not thinking logically, I agree, it is why I came to you." she stops herself, an odd look of confusion spreading across her usually stoic face, "I do not wish to leave the Scions, and I think perhaps she does not either. But I think her emotions are overriding her senses, and I do not have the capacity to reason with her. I do not understand the feelings she has in regards to all of you, she says it is what is "best to protect you all" - and I am unable to understand her reasoning." Thancred lets out a sigh, reaching a hand up to rub his forehead, "No, it's alright... I can guess why she'd be acting like this. I'll talk with her," he looks at 129A... no, Aea, curiously, "Thank you for telling me." "You're... welcome. I hope you can help her." By the time he finally reached Providence Point he felt like he had become one giant ice block, and for one brief second he thought this journey had all been in vain - and that she wouldn't be there; she was already halfway to Doma and he had already lost her. But he saw her, sitting in the snow, one knee up and her head resting on it, her tail curled protectively around her shivering body. In one hand was a bottle, and scattered around her were empty ones. He cringed, noting the snow that had begun to pile up on not only the bottles, but also on her frail frame. And then... in front of her was the memorial, his memorial - the man he only really knew of as a ghost that his lover had once loved and that had given his life to save her. He could hear her mumbling to herself, punctuated only by the occasional choked sob that was forced back with a swift drink from her bottle. Not wanting to frighten her, he walked up slowly before kneeling beside her to lay a gentle hand on her shoulder. "You really should consider warmer clothes when you come here, my love." She jumped, falling backwards into the cold snow, her eyes looking at him with a wild and surprised look. "Thancred?!" Her eyes faded from surprise to one of guilt, "What... what are you doing here?" He sat down beside her, taking the bottle she held and taking a swig out of it before speaking, "A little bird told me you'd be here, before you left on your journey." "Oh, right...  yeah, I'll be leaving for Doma. I just wanted to pay um, my respects and all that before we left with Yugiri." He looked at her, taking another drink before speaking, "But you weren't planning on saying goodbye to the living?" She looked at him, her expression turning to one of hurt and it stung him to see. But he didn't regret the words, after all... it was true, wasn't it? Besides, it hurt him having to hear from Aea that what Selphie's intentions were. He loved her, and it hurt to know she didn't feel she could come to him to talk - that she felt it better if she disappeared from his memory as thought it would be easy to forget the love of his life.  "N-no, I..." "Selphie, please do not lie to me. I did not walk in this godforsaken weather to be lied too." She took a deep breath, grabbing the bottle away from him and taking a deep drink. It was quiet, the only sound was the wind blowing past them as the snow began to drift down in larger and larger flakes. "It's better this way." her words were so soft they were almost swallowed by the swirling winds of Coerthas and he struggled to hear her quiet admission.  "Have you told yourself that so much that you've actually begun to believe it? Or do you know that you're lying to yourself every time you say it?" he looked at her with a mixture of bemusement and annoyance at her cliched answer.  "I'm not lying, dammit!" Her eyes flashed with anger, but behind the anger he could sense the anguish behind her voice, "Do you really think it's safe for us to be here? To be with the Scions? Do you think it's so great to parade me around as a Warrior of Light when I am a weapon created by the enemy?" she let out a bitter laugh, "Yeah, tell me how well that'll go over with Eorzeans when they find that out. I'm sure that Nero bastard will make that happen sooner rather then later. And then what? Will you be able to stop both the Garleans from forcefully taking Aea and I back? Or will you just let the people of Eorzea pass their judgement on us?" "It's not the people who chose you as the Wa-" She cut him off, "Oh yes, it was Hydaelyn! That makes it all better, that will make the people understand. That will give them pause to think rationally when they find out their supposed hero is nothing more then a mechanical puppet that can be ready to help invade at the switch of a button." She gave him a harsh glare, taking another swig of her drink and daring him to speak. "So, then you have it all figured out then?" he asked quietly. "No, I never said I had it figured out. But, I'm not going to let anyone else die. I'm not... I don't want anymore stupid sacrifices. Enough people have died, Thancred. I don't want to see anyone else I care for die because they believe in what I may or may not be able to accomplish." This is what made him explode with anger, grabbing the bottle from her hands and throwing it aside, ignoring her protests of seeing her alcohol spilled, and grabbing her by the shoulders, "Do you think you are the only one to have lost someone!? Do you think you are the only one afraid of losing what means the most to them?!" His voice was strong, but beneath it was the wavering fear of truly losing her, just as he had lost Minfilia. He looked at her, his shoulders heaving from his outburst, the swirling emotions filling him and making him shake, and he studied her face, becoming frustrated by the empty look she was giving him. He felt his eyes burn, and wasn't sure if it was the blinding snow, or tears threatening to come out. His voice softened however as he spoke again, "You are not the only one to have lost loved ones... we all have, Selphie. But we must carry on in their memory, or what will have they have sacrificed themselves for?" She was quiet, staring up at him with empty eyes, and he noticed she wasn't wearing the patch that normally covered her whitened eye and he became aware of just how light she felt in his arms, and he wondered if she had been taking care of herself... if she had been bothering to keep up with her aether treatments. Or if she had allowed herself to subsist only on a liquid diet... "I'm just... so tired..." she murmered finally, turning her head to face the plaque and shield left behind as Haurchefant's memorial. She went quiet again for a moment, studying the broken and battered shield bearing the Fortemp's sigil. But her face soon began to crumple and tears started to make their way down her face, "I'm so scared and tired... all I know is running, don't you see? All I know is running... I told you that from the beginning. I ran back then, and I'm running now. Because it's the only way I know." He felt her body collapse against his, and he pressed her sobbing body against his, wrapping his arms tightly around her. What she had said was true - it was only a matter of time before her, and Aea's past came to light. But it hurt him to see just how little she thought of her accomplishments... it hurt to see that she couldn't tell she had forged her own path, one that was far removed from the path her creaters had set her on. "I couldn't... protect Haurchefant. I couldn't protect Aea. They believed in me, Thancred. More then anyone else, they believed in...in me, and I couldn't protect them. Th-they died thinking that I was something to believe in. There were times that I thought I could, that I could protect everyone... that I was invincible. But I'm not... I'm not and neither is anyone I love. I'm scared, I don't want to lose anyone else." He held her close, his head resting on the top of hers, his hand gently brushing the snow off her pale lavender hair, "So in your quest to not lose anyone else... you choose to lose them on your own terms? Selphie you've come up with some admittedly odd plans in the past, but this one is truly absurd. Running is not all you know, far from it... I've seen you stand up against the odds before, even worse odds. You're not a runner... you're a fighter. You've been fighting to make your own path your whole life." Her tears had slowly begun to subside, but she still clung to him, and he could still feel her body trembling in his arms. "Please... just come home with me," he whispered into her ears, "I don't want to lose you... I don't want you to leave me. And I don't want to leave you - I would fight the whole of the Garlean army to have you stay by my side. I would defend you from all of Eorzea-" “Don't say that... you'd be slaughtered. And don't say that your love would protect you. It didn't... it didn't protect him." Thancred was quiet for a moment, taking a moment to look at Haurchefant's broken shield. In his mind it served as a symbol of the lengths the man had gone to protect the woman both of them had loved, but to her... he supposed it served only as a symbol of death, "No... but his love protected you, did it not?" He held her tighter in his arms, "You think you are not worth the love others bestow upon you... and I'm telling you that you are." He pulled away slightly, using a hand to turn her face up so she was looking at him, "I first met you far before you were ever the Warrior of Light, when you were just a ruffian on the streets of Ul'dah, stealing riches and giving it the poor, and I'm telling you that you are worth it. You have always been worth protecting, there is good inside of you." "But what if-" "Stop worrying about the what if's for once," he brought her face to his, kissing her gently, "Let yourself rely on others... don't close yourself off to others who care about you just as much as you care about them. No one expects you to figure things out on your own."She sighed, leaning her head against his chest in defeat, "Alright... I get it. I won't, I won't leave. I mean, I'm still going to Doma but I won't-" "Fake your own death and leave me devastated?" She offered him up a grumpy stare, "I wasn't going to fake my own death... I was just gonna, y'know, disappear, and let you-" "Fill in the blanks, yes, I know. And I would've assumed the worst, and would've been heartbroken." He smiled at her, kissing her forehead, "But you're not doing that, so it's alright." A voice broke out behind them, "We're staying then, with the Scions?" They both looked up startled, peering through the thickening snowfall as 129A's form emerged, thankfully holding two blankets. "Aea? What are you doing here?" Selphie pushed herself up from the cold ground, gratefully taking one of the blankets. "I followed Thancred to assure all went well with you two," She looked at them carefully, "And I am making a guess based off your conversation, that we will not be leaving the Scions and faking our deaths?" Selphie let out a frustrated groan, "We were never going to fake our deaths, okay? We were just gonna slip off into the night, never to be seen again." 129A simply stared at her, and then gave a half shrug, as if to say "Alright, if that's what you tell yourself." "Wait," Selphie paused, and looked at the other girl carefully, studying her before turning to Thancred, "She was the one who told you right? I mean she had to be, I didn't tell anyone else." Thancred nodded, "She did, why?" Selphie turned back to stare at 129A, who simply stared back not betraying any sort of emotion on her face, "Well, it's just... why did you tell him?" "I did not wish to leave." "Yeah but, you didn't have to you know - come with. You could've said no." 129A shook her head, "I am unable to disobey orders from any S-Type model." Selphie looked at her, then began to laugh, "S-so wait, you're telling me... you're telling me, you tattled on me to Thancred, so he would get me to give up my plans?" "That is correct." Selphie began to laugh harder, and Thancred glanced at her, confusion written on his face, looking for an explanation for her sudden laughing outburst, "Oh...oh man, that's, that's GREAT... you, you did something totally and utterly selfish! You did something for your own interests instead of just blindly following me!" 129A shifted on her feet, looking for once... slightly uncomfortable, "Your plan was not a logical one I only wished for you to see that, I-" Selphie clapped a hand on the other girl's shoulder, shaking her head, "No, no... Aea, it's a good thing. You need to be a little selfish sometimes, you need to learn it's okay to say no to me, cos sometimes it's for my own good." she smiled gently at her, "I'm proud of you." 129A turned from her, ignoring what she had said and instead looked back towards the path to Camp Dragonhead, "We should head back, Thancred looks like he needs to be warmed immediately." Selphie glanced at Thancred who was in fact shivering heavily despite the blanket, "You're right, let's head back,” she said with a small sigh. As Selphie and Thancred began to walk down the winding snow covered hill, 129A lagged behind, taking a moment to glance at Haurchefant's memorial. "Selfish..." she thought for a moment, thinking back to why she had told Thancred... it had been in part due the stress and sadness she had sensed coming from Selphie - while she wasn't able to place these emotions in herself, she knew that it meant the other girl was in distress.  But there had been that other feeling... and that had been the overriding factor that led to her going to Thancred. She truly hadn't wanted to leave behind the Scions, she had grown to enjoy the missions given, the order it had given her new life. So she had gone to Thancred in the hopes that he would stop Selphie from going through with her plan, if only so they would continue to work the Scions. "Self...ish." She repeated the word... perhaps that was what that odd feeling was. The feeling that had nothing to do with her feelings towards protecting Selphie. "Aea! Are you coming or not?" Selphie's voice rang out from the bottom of the hill, "Hurry up! I think Thancred's getting frostbite and he's getting awfully cranky." 129A nodded, and began to run down the hill to catch up. Yes, perhaps she had been selfish... and it hadn't caused her to malfunction... the thought gave her an odd sense of satisfaction that she was not yet used too.

An excerpt from an Endwalker drabble.
What composure she had maintained throughout it all had begun to splinter and crack, and as her shoulders hunched over, a small sob escaped her lips, “Oh, Hades… she was so angry,” and a miserable smile rose to her face even as tears flooded down her cheeks and onto her lips, “As angry as you are - isn’t that funny? Furious, both of you. Can you imagine that? Can you imagine Io angry? But she was, she even yelled at me - she yelled at me, and I have never seen her so angry in my life. Both of you demanding explanations I cannot give, both of you bargaining for what I cannot offer. I knew you would be angry, but I thought she would accept it, like Hytholodaeus did - of course he did, because he and I are one and the same and he knew as I did when he came to me about offering himself up - neither one of us shall be swayed. But neither you nor Io could ever accept such a thing without a fight, could you? Both of you are so aggrieved by my actions, perhaps rightfully so, I cannot judge either of you. I suppose I would be too, if I were in your shoes.”
Though the tight knot of anger still held fast in his chest, he moved forward at last to envelop her in his arms, bringing her to sit on the bed so she would curl up against him. Rare was it that Azem would cry - even more rare was it to see Persephone cry. More often than not, when she did, they simply were tears of anger or frustration - but seeing her cry now out of profound sorrow had left him feeling dizzy and numb as he held her tightly against him. He had come here to confront her in a torrent of anger, feeling every sense of betrayal the moment he saw her - and now as he felt the wetness of her tears against him, he realized that no one could ever make her feel more guilt and anguish with herself than what she had already condemned herself to feel.
While she would stand up and wipe away the evidence so no other soul would know - though she would leave for her final thing travels with her customary beaming smile gracing her face, he knew that it was simply a lie to reassure those of Etheirys that feared the oncoming Final Days - their Azem would not cry, would not buckle under the pressure and succumb to despair.
He hated it.
He knew the feeling that arose in him was selfishness - crude greed that threatened to swallow him. While his work to stave off the destruction of their Star was genuine, while his love for Etheirys and her people was sincere, and none could sway him from the course he and the other members of the Convocation had set upon - holding Persephone in his arms now caused a selfish and ugly feeling that while they deserved the salvation that he and the others would bring - why did they deserve to be comforted by her? Why was it that she had to give herself unto the people, allow them to pile onto her all their grief and despair, all the while pretending foolishly that she had none of their own?
The thought terrified him suddenly - and he very nearly began to plead with her to change her mind, to bring Io with, if only so she had someone to rely on - so she would not become one of the abominations by allowing herself to be the lightning rod to which people could expel their grief and fear. But he knew she would tell him no, just as she told Io herself. And instead his anger grew again - Io had nothing keeping her here, she was not shackled as he was! How could she say she would protect Persephone, using him as a reason to justify it, only to so easily give in to her request?!
He of all people knew how stubborn Persephone was - this was true, but if she cared as much as Persephone insisted she did - why was she not here now? He had no choice but to stay, it was his duty to the Star, and he would show Persephone that it was also out of his love for her, that he pushed ever forward, even if she could not join him. He would hold his faith that the Convocation would save them all, and just like that day at the Bureau, she would come back to him, and their souls would sing. He could not join her, but he would do anything to ensure she had a home to return too.
And yet Io was content to lock herself yet again into the cage of a bird, to be covered with a sheet to allow herself the blind faith that things would turn out alright when it would be taken off - and it ignited in him blind hatred and fury that in these final hours, she allowed Persephone to wear her down.
‘I have never been alone,’ she had said tearfully - and suddenly he was frightened of what that loneliness would do to her.
His grip on her tightened as he began to place gentle kisses on the crown of her head, slowly moving her so her tear stained face looked at his - looking at her with one last hope, “Stay, just one more night- you do not need to leave right this second. Stay with me, please. Sephone, just one night, it is all I ask-”
“No,” her voice was soft, but firm as a hand moved to cradle his cheek before moving to carefully take his mask off, “Hades… you are only setting yourself up for a painful reminder in the morning. Giving yourself the hope that in the morning I will still be here, curled in bed next to you. But you will not - that hope will be robbed from you when you pull back the covers and find me gone. No… I do not wish to hurt you anymore than I already am.”
Cruelty sparked at his tongue when he spoke again, yellow eyes harsh and stony as he looked upon her, “Do not lie to yourself, Persephone. Is it that, or are you afraid your resolve will falter? That you will perhaps wake up and realize this is nothing more than another one of your fantastical whims?!”

#10 Foster
Training at Kugane wasn’t ideal, thankfully they were near the Ruby Sea, a small island just nearby was good enough to not only being out of the way from the Sekiseigumi, but also from the Confederacy. Kodie kept his stance as instructed, taking every instruction that Rhyn had given him to exact specifications as he held the gunblade, striking, and blocking. The Roe watched, holding his own gunblade over his shoulder, nodding at every move the Midlander was making. “Yer sure are makin this hard fer me to jab on ya, doin pretty well here…heh guess it’s not a lance so that’s a plus.” The Sea Wolf chuckled.
“It seems more natural to me.” Kodie responded as he made a quick swipe motion. “Maybe because I can hold it like a fire arm, but it’s definitely more my style. Still gotta figure out the aether ammo though.”
“Eh, I be hearin folks with that issue like yerself can have someone else charge their ammo.” Rhyn responded as he looked over to the distance where he could see Tesh and Selphie on the same beach, training as well. Tesh also learning from her, training to use the Thavnarian techniques to her own advantage. “Ya also got the Garleans with their own set of ammo. You got this figured out.”
Kodie nodded as he finished off his combo in the air, finally settling down as he set the gunblade tip into the sand, leaning slightly onto the handle. “Appreciate all the training; I’ll keep practicing when we get home. I owe ya, Big Guy.”
Rhyn immediately shook his head. “You did yer share, ya saved my family, nuthin I can do now will ever repay that debt, but I’ll sure as hells try.” The Roe grinned as he looked back towards where the two women were training. “I ain’t surprised you picked up on this quickly, heh you definitely changed since ya were that little shy brat shite.”
The Hyur nodded his own attention towards the Tesh and Selphie. He watched Tesh with a lot of pride, watching how she was quickly picking up the new dance steps, proud to see how quickly skilled of a fighter she had become partially thanks to his own training. “Lot has changed since those days, but even then it was thanks to you I made it out okay.”
A shrug was the response the Sea Wolf gave Kodie. “Eh I think you would have been fine, but do me a favor? I saw how you were at the base, how you handled them…ain’t sayin what ya did was wrong, they all deserved it but…there was a side of ya I never saw, it scared even me…try not to lose yerself completely arright?”
The Midlander knew what he was referring to, and turned his attention to the Roe. “That’s why I don’t bring Tesh to certain jobs like that with me. You know the old saying, we do the things so others don’t have to.” He lifted his gunblade upwards, aiming it towards the sky. “But I’ll try not to, I got a lot behind me to never forget..”
Rhyn smiled. “You best not ferget, or I’ll come find ya and knock ya back in yer place. Speakin of that, how about we go fer a spar. Lessee how much ya learned..”
The Roe faced Kodie, getting into his ready stance with a cocky grin. Kodie followed by getting into a similar stance, a confident smirk appearing on his lips. “I’ll make sure to go easy on ya, Big Guy, wouldn’t want to embarrasses you in front of your wife.”

Hi!
For the ship questions, could I ask a few? You can answer for SDV or FF - whichever you'd prefer (especially if they're repeats of one fandom or the other)
• what is your absolute favorite ship?
• is there a ship you used to ship, but don't anymore?
(and a bonus maybe, what's a meme/quote that reminds you of Malex? >:3c )
Sorry if any of these were already asked! Hope you have a good day bestie 😤✌️
what is your absolute favorite ship?
I think this is something that changes over time, not a forever favorite like you'd have a favorite color!
I think probably unsurprisingly, at the moment I'm most focused on OC stuff :3 So in sdv that's malex, and in ffxiv that's leigh with my partner's wol! I've really entered my OC loving era again and I feel like I'm thriving because of it 🥰
Honorary mentions though go to: - Marupenny - Sambastigail - Fordolyse - Zenoswol - Estimeric (duh. Those last three are some of my forever faves but I've had them on the back burner lately. But get me going about them and I WILL gush and kick my feet!)
is there a ship you used to ship, but don't anymore?
This one had me racking my brain a little bit because it's not often that I stop shipping something once I get into it. But there are some instances where it did happen!
The main one I can think of is from final fantasy 8, when I was a teenager I was really into the pairing of Selphie and Irvine. I have bad associations with it now due to some trauma I suffered at the time, so while I still love both characters separately and have tried to make the ship mine again years later, I just can't bring myself to do it 😭
(and a bonus maybe, what's a meme/quote that reminds you of Malex? >:3c )
Omg okay actually I do have something in mind for this... and the millennial girlies will know what I mean.. This line that Blaine says to Kurt in glee, when they first get together?
"There is a moment when you say to yourself, 'Oh! There you are. I've been looking for you forever.' "
dieddd deadddd dyinggggg I've always been so obsessed with that scene, and also with the one earlier on in the same episode where Blaine has his aha moment while Kurt is singing and his expression slowly changes and he's like ohhhh fuck I'm in love with my best friend oh my god okay this is happening!! This one right here:
Tumblr media
Like tell me that's not the way Alex looks at Mal when he's lost in his own head gdshjghjds ANYWAYYYY I'm not exaggerating when I say this show did irreparable damage to my psyche (positive) lol this is the reason why Chris Colfer's cover of "Blackbird" is on my malex playlist! The exact reason!!
Thank you for sending me these, Kat!!! You're the best!! 🥰💛💛💛

obligatory “tomorrow is doomsday!!!1″ post.
i will likely be logging off tomorrow for the planned protest even tho this hellsite has literally been part of my life since i was like 15/16 and checking it is pure habit now.
regardless, I can of course always be found in game- Le Duke (and tomorrow is the first day of starlight event so u bet ur ass ima be on all day doin that shit.)
you can find Duke’s twitter here- dukeofishgard which is strictly FFXIV related and Duke-related shenanigans. my personal, public twitter can be found here - kittykaterade which is a mix of regular shenanigans, lots of retweets and dumb memes. occasional tired delusion tweets of me going on about something. im sorry.
you can also add me on discord - Selphie/The Duke#7705 keep in mind two things. 1. sometimes i am slow to respond because of who i am as a person. 2. i totes rp in discord if ya want. let’s find ways to amuse ourselves as tumblr sinks. i rly dont care if ya add me, just lemme know who ya are.
other than that, i do not yet have a pillowfort (gonna try and get one soon tho ;o; i rly do want one.) but when i do i will post it. in any event, c’est la vie for tomorrow. lettuce protest and hope for a christmas miracle that staff can get their head surgically removed their ass (I have my doubts. 1 like=1 prayer.)
xoxo
