Fili/Bilbo fic rec
for @sharktofu as promised.

Confusion by WTFAidaWTF (Aida) (both fem)
Fíli thought Bilbo didn't know. Apparently, Fíli is the only one who didn't know anything.
At a Glance by kasumixkrimm
A collection of stories that detail glances of the evolving relationship between Fili and Bilbo during their adventure.
What you wouldn't do for kin by QueenOfSkaro
Kili knows his brother is in love with the resident hobbit and decides to help out, being the awesome little brother that he is.
The Durin's Hand (And Maybe His Feet, Too) by smileybagel
A play on a old fable, "The Lion's Paw", where a lion is stuck with a nasty thorn in its paw and cannot get it out until a sweet little mouse helps him.
Now let's replace "lion" with "Fili" and "mouse" with "Bilbo" and see what happens.
Nonlinear by StrictlyNoFrills (fem!bilbo)
For dwarves, who love all things geometrical and straightforward, the fact that recovery is not a linear process is entirely maddening.
So, it's a good thing Fili doesn't have to cope with the aftermath of the battle alone.
Leap (Don't Look) by StrictlyNoFrills (fem!bilbo)
It was an old Took tradition. If any Took lass was in love and her lad had not proposed in the timely manner she might wish, then she would set out on a grand Adventure and return with the fruits of her journey to lay them at her lad’s feet and propose.
The Gift of the Hidden Heir by StrictlyNoFrills (fem!bilbo)
It's their first Yuletide after their banishment.
something in each of us is wanting by dualce
"That's not quite what I meant," Bilbo said, catching his breath, his walking stick thumping emphatically with every step. "I am glad for the help. And the company." He said the last bit quietly, eying the dwarves in front of them, a thread of uncertainty in his voice.
"That is well," Fili said. "For I am glad of your company, too."
Bilbo's breath hitched, and he cast a look upward through the locks of hair on his forehead, surprise written plain on his face. "Er, why?"
A Gift Beyond Measure by LadyLaran (fem!bilbo)
When the parents of Ivy Baggins passes, the bonds are shattered and she is sent to her soul-father in hopes of helping her recover. It's there she finds true love.
Fili Fridays by StrictlyNoFrills (fem!bilbo)
Exactly what it sounds like: The place where I celebrate Fili Friday by posting short oneshots appreciating Fili on Friday.
Here Be Dragons by MorinoAthame
A long set of one shots, each inspired by a different word, for various Hobbit pairings as follows:
01. Wonder - Bilbo/Bofur 02. Anchoring - Bilbo/Dwalin 03. Dreaminess - Bilbo/Bifur 04. Passion - Bilbo/Thorin 05. Recollection - Bilbo/Nori 06. Enchantment - Bilbo/Gandalf 07. Exuberance - Bilbo/Kili 08. Unpredictability - Dori, Nori, & Ori 09. Extravagance - Bofur/Nori 10. Desire - Bofur/Thorin 11. Brilliance - Bilbo/Fili 12. Instinct - Balin/Bilbo 13. Subtlety - Dwalin/Nori 14. Truthfulness - Bilbo/Elrond 15. Satisfaction - Bilbo/Dori 16. Tenacity - Bofur/Dwalin
Ereborian Justice by Madkat89 (fem!bilbo)
Although Erebor has been reclaimed and is currently being rebuilt, an attack on Bella shows that although Erebor has been reclaimed, law has not returned to the Lonely Mountain. But the line of Durin will not permit such travesties to go unanswered and justice will return to Erebor and the dwarven people once more
(Read the note at the beginning of the first chapter before reading)
An Unexpected Courtship by Bead (fem!bilbo)
Fili sets himself the task of looking after the newest, weakest and least skilled member of the Company of Thorin Oakenshield.
Tiger's Eye and Flower Crowns by GwendalfTheGato
Fifty years after the Battle of Azanulbizar, Frerin lives as a slave in a compound of Men. When a Hobbit Fauntling by the name of Bilba is unceremoniously dropped into his life, Frerin does everything he can to do right by his wee one. And if that means eventually being freed and returning to Ered Luin, well, at least his little one will be safe.
Or, how Frerin gains a Wee One, how Fili gets engaged over sweets, and how Bilba is a master frog hunter.

break of day [fili/bilbo] mcd
i watched the battle today. yesh.
--
There’s really not much left to do when the one you’ve loved with all you are is executed in front of you and his kin.
Bilbo has a sword he can barely wield and barely any armor. He has tears in his eyes and regrets building like a screech in his chest-- and a broken heart. And Kili’s devastated roar ringing in his ears.
And the image of Fili, resigned to his fate and pleading for them to run burned into his core.
The watchtower had been so deadly quiet then, all of them tense and unable to do a single damn thing, that Fili’s grunt of pain as Azog pierced through him with the blade echoed around them, the sound carried on the wind.
Bilbo doesn’t even get to say goodbye, doesn’t get to apologize, doesn’t get to--
He feels guilty and horrified with himself but he wishes, in the dead of night, that it wasn’t Thorin he got to have last words with. He’d give those to Dwalin or Balin, even Dain. If only he’d get to speak to Fili instead, hear his voice one more time. Feel his warmth.
He’d give up Bag End, the troll chest, the Valar-forsaken ring. He’d give up it all if--
But he can’t. He can’t.
All he can do is wait and hope that when his time comes…
Maybe then he’ll finally get his chance.

if it’s to end in fire [bilbo/fili]
oh hey, smth for @sharktofu
canonical character death, my boo, but i think you won’t mind
--
When Fili wakes in the Halls he is surrounded by kin. He meets the father he barely remembered, the uncle he knew more from tale than memory, his grandparents and ancestors - they're all there to greet him. But so is Thorin. And so is his brother.
As happy as Fili is never to be parted with Kili he mourns the life his younger sibling never got to live. And he mourns for his mother, left completely alone until her own time comes, her sons breaking the one oath they swore.
Fili can already feel how his ears will be boxed and how heavy her scowl will be, yet he hopes Dis will get to have some peace and happiness before she joins them.
No one else in the Company is there with them and doesn't follow in the days to come and that warms Fili's heart. Gives him hope that they all survived and the battle was won. Thorin's last memory was of the eagles and Bilbo, of being forgiven by their Burglar and it’s that that truly breaks Fili's heart.
He never got the chance to make his apologies. He caught only a glimpse of the hobbit on the battlefield before he'd been slain. And last they had actually seen each other Fili almost allowed his uncle to throw him from the battlements.
It's his greatest regret - the things that remained unsaid to the very end, things he'll never get to tell his hobbit. Mahal's Halls aren't meant for hobbits even if they are the children of their Maker's wife.
But then again, Bilbo Baggins was no ordinary hobbit, was he?
It takes over sixty years in the world of the living and an eternity equal to the blink of an eye in the Halls but suddenly there he is. Appearing in the midst of the great dining hall as if he was just popping in for dinner, healthy and smiling in his red coat, all his buttons in order and just as young as Fili remembered him. Just as beautiful and dear.
"I've been searching for you!" is what he tells Fili, once the once-prince finally manages to pull him away from his bewildered kin. "These halls are absolutely confusing!"
Fili should ask him how he managed to get here for the Gardens, tell him that he's glad he's here, that he hopes he led a happy and plentiful life. He should apologize for what the gold sickness made of him, for the time they lost. He should maybe even ask how long they had before Bilbo would have to leave.
But they've lost so much time already, been apart for more than a lifetime and if it's Fili's last chance, this miracle, he'll make the best of it.
He silences Bilbo with a kiss, interrupting a tirade about something or other, but all that matters in the end is that Bilbo's hands find his. And that his hobbit kisses him back.

don’t come for me, i never wrote for the hobbit or lotr.

when you’re lost [fili/bilbo]
post BOTFA, nobody dies.
@sharktofu is still to blame
--
"You don't understand…" Bilbo insists but he's not looking at Fili, seemingly unable to meet his gaze. Like he's afraid of what he'll see.
"I don't want to understand," Fili says, clutching Bilbo's hand in his. He doesn’t yet have much strength for anything more than sitting up after all, "I want you to stay."
"But Thorin--"
"Thorin rescinded your banishment as soon as the sickness receded. It was partly thanks to you that he came back to us after all. It was also thanks to you that he lives, that me and my brother are alive," Fili has to pause for a moment, the battle, all that happened on Ravenhill flashing before his eyes. Blood and death, determination and despair, and somehow, amongst it, his hobbit offering warning, diversions, and help. “I won't ever be able to repay you for what you've done for us, Ghivashel, but I beg you to give me a chance to do it either way.”
Bilbo doesn’t answer, seemingly lost for words but he hasn’t left the tent yet and hasn’t let go of Fili’s hand, their fingers still tangled together.
“I know my inaction hurt you. I realize that-- I could have just as well been me strangling you and dangling you over the battlements--
“Fili!” The hobbit interrupts him loudly but Fili isn’t done.
“Bilbo, please, let me speak my mind,” he pleads and Bilbo allows it although he doesn’t look happy about it. Fili takes a moment and continues what he meant to say, “I have wronged you greatly, Bilbo, I’ve abandoned you when you needed me most and I regret that, I do. Please allow me to do right by you. To treasure and love you as you deserve? Allow me the chance to gain your trust and care once again?”
“Oh Fili,” Bilbo says with such affection that Fili can feel his heart swell, “My silly dwarf, there’s nothing to gain. You’ve lost none of it,” the hobbit promises, leaning over Fili to press a kiss to his forehead, “You lost none of my love.”
