Midorima x Reader and Chocolate Brownie

The very first fanfic I wrote for Midorima.

I slammed my last wad of cash onto the table, before calculating exactly how many days of the month were to be spent cashless. I sighed. 2 weeks. Not good. The cashier frowned at my empty wallet before handing me the bill receipt and the brown bag that had my favorite warm chocolate brownie swimming in chocolate syrup. I reached forward for it when my hand met a larger…taped one. I tilted my head as my eyes bore into blank green ones. “That’s my order.” I managed to say, craning my neck to look at him. In my defense, I was barely 5 feet and he was definitely more than 6 feet tall. The green haired giant looked down at me, not out of spite, but because he had to. “I ordered first, nanodayo.” I frowned, grasping the packet tightly, before snapping, “I don’t care. Get another.” And turned to leave. Of course, the cashier had to pipe in, “That is the last piece we have. I apologize for the inconvenience.” The last word came out as a squeak when my glare met greeny’s annoyed frown. The cashier busied himself, hoping to not to be accused for causing a murder.

“Look. Order something else. I’m sorry, but I’m terribly late.” I said, eyes glancing at my wrist watch. If I didn’t reach the gym in the next ten minutes, Riko-senpai would have my head on a spike. He taped fingers wrapped around the brown cover, inches away from mine. “I need this today, or my day won’t be good. Get something else to eat.” He pulled at the bag, and me, by extension. Man, was he strong. I huffed, pulling it towards me. “Do I look like I care how your day goes? Please, let go of my breakfast.” I bit out sweetly and as politely as I could. “That cannot happen, nanodayo. Oha-asa says that chocolate brownie is my lucky item of the day. Hence, I need it more. You can eat something else.” He said, voice indifferent as he adjusted his glasses. I adjusted mine too, on instinct. “And waste another ten minutes? No, thank you. Let go.” I replied, not intimidated as his shadow loomed over me. “You are wasting time right now. I have better things to do than argue with someone so immature.” He replied, voice flat. Immature? Me? Says the guy who wants brownie because “Oha Asa” says so. I rubbed my temples with my other hand; grip still tight on the bag. “Wanna split?” I squeaked, when I realized that I was late and hence dead. “No.” He deadpanned. A bulb went ding! in my head. And I asked, “You do not intend to eat it, do you?” I raised a brow as he visibly stiffened before relaxing and answering in a why-are-you-even-asking-me-this?-don’t-you-already-know-you-moron voice, “Of course not. Are you deranged?” I clenched my fists, “You want to carry around a brownie for the next 24 hours and you think I am insane?” Our glaring contest was broken by my cell beeping. It was Riko-senapi’s ringtone and I jumped. Damn it! “Fine, keep it. I won’t be able to eat it in peace anyway.” So I stomped off, leaving the jerk with my brownie.

I had transferred to Seirin from Rakuzan a few months ago, where I was the team manager. I had helped Akashi with most of the team strategies; of course, Mr. Absolute would rather bite off his tongue than say it. I knew enough about the sport to be appointed as Assistant Coach, thanks to my elder brother who was an international level basketball star. I wrapped my arms around my stomach as I leaned forward, elbows digging into my knees as I leaned forward from where I was sitting on the bleachers as another stab of hunger tore through my insides. I pouted as my wallet felt thin and light against my back pocket. “Need. Food.” I groaned out loud and Teppei chuckled from where he sat next to me. “Do you have a death wish?” I asked, whirling in his direction. Kagami would have shit his pants by now, but of course, Kiyoshi-senpai didn’t even flatter. “Why didn’t you just say you were hungry, huh?” He asked, his voice deep and jovial. My eyes trailed over the team, warming up for the practice match against Shutoku. They were really fired up, especially Kagami—I rolled my eyes as an aura of dark red surrounded Seirin’s tiger. “It’s fine, senpai. They are all really excited. We’ll all eat after the game.” I smiled. The Shutoku team entered the gym. He was amongst them, hand taped and holding my brownie bag. “Him?” I yelled in my indoor voice, as Teppei hastily shushed me. Of course, my outburst was loud enough for him to ignore Taiga and gawk at me from across the court. I huffed, turning away as Teppei laughed his ass off. “Him? Midorima Shintaro, “stole” your brownie?” “I paid for it. So it IS stealing.” I crossed my arms on my chest,as everyone took their positions.

The game was better than expected. It would have been a draw, had Mr. Arrogant not sunk in a 3-pointer from across the freaking court as a buzzer beater. No one was depressed, though. Well, no one, but Kagami, who demanded a one-on-one with Midorima. He was a really sore loser. It was when I was leaving the gym with Riko-senpai discussing something regarding the game, when something or rather someone very large and very heavy knocked the breath out of me as my back hit the ground, head painfully colliding against the concrete. “Ow!” I groaned as I looked up, eyes meeting green. He abruptly stood up apologizing, dusting himself, before holding out his hand for me, looking away. I snorted, standing up on my own. Riko-senpai gaped at the Shutoku player who glared at his teammate. Said teammate was laughing like a buffoon. “Takao, that was not funny. Someone could have gotten hurt.” The team’s captain, Miyaji Yuya said, pulling him up by the collar. “Excuse me? Someone?” I replied, crossing my arms. Everyone looked at me, before Takao, smiled apologetically at me. “Shin-chan wanted to talk to you. So I gave him a push. We’ll let you talk now.” I gawked at Midorima whose cheeks turned pink, eyes still averted from mine. “So?” I asked, after everyone had been dragged away by Mr. Hawk Eye. “Takao, speaks nonsense all the time.” I sighed, shrugging at his response. “So I’ll go now.” I was about to step away when the taped hand wrapped around my wrist. “Huh?” My eyes met his and he abruptly let go, adjusting his glasses. “Great game today.” He started. “You guys, won. Congratulations.” I never said I wasn’t a sore loser. His lips tilted upwards in a smirk. “Of course, we did, nanodayo. I had my lucky item.” “And..?” I pressed, leaning up to look him in the eyes. “And a great team.” He said, clearing his throat. I smiled. Kuroko’s basketball worked wonders. “..for the brownie?” He mumbled out. “Huh?” I asked, eyebrows raised. He looked at me, all serious, and sighed before he asked me if I was deaf. “Thank you…”, he said, “I could do my best, because of you.” My stomach growled and I flushed. Why? Why, in front of him? Said guy smirked again, before arrogantly stating, “Let me buy you another, nanodayo. You have no cash.” “Are you asking me out, Shintaro?” He flushed before walking ahead as I followed him.
