Why You're Wrong About Rachel Zegler
This is a long post, but there's a lot of context missing from the Rachel Zegler "discourse" that I thought I could add with my history of watching this unfold from the beginning.
The Snow White Thing
You probably know this part. There's a curated video of Rachel going viral, framed to make her seem like she's never seen Snow White, she hates the story, she hates the character, she's ungrateful, and single-handedly ruined Disney's brand. The clips from these videos are not new— they were released nearly a year ago in September 2022 and nobody cared about them at the time. Why? Because all the full interviews she did that day at the Disney Exo in 2022 showed a young, charming woman who was excited and proud to be cast in an iconic role. The interviews were very well received and it was a non story. Now that it's been edited down and cut together in a malicious way, and the people sharing them are purposefully misquoting her, they've twisted the context. Normally, this would be a non controversy. Even if that video wasn't taken out of context and spliced together to make her seem like she hates the film, most people wouldn't care. The issue is the response to the video.
Let's get this out of the way: Rachel Zegler doesn't hate Snow White. She relayed that she was afraid of the forest scene as a child and didn't revisit it again until after she was cast in the role. She has since then watched it several times and has expressed for YEARS before that interview came out that she was incredibly honored and grateful to be playing such an iconic Disney princess. If you watch the full videos that those clips came from, this comes across immediately to anyone with their own mind. If you hate someone for being scared of something as a child, I don't know what to tell you. If the role was being given to the biggest Snow White fan, you would be correct that she doesn't deserve it. Unfortunately for you, this role requires talent and Rachel has the Golden Globe and critical acclaim from people who matter within the industry (her peers and critics).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know who does hate their beloved characters in beloved franchises but the general public still applauds them? Harrison Ford, Sean Connery, Daniel Craig, and Robert Pattinson. They've all expressed outright contempt for the roles and the films they were part of, but nobody cared. People had fun with their quotes but they still respected them. Rachel said nothing even closely resembling their remarks, but she's being torn to shreds. Are we seeing a pattern here?
Rachel never said a single bad thing about the character or the animated film— she said that it was outdated and that set people over the edge, foaming at the mouth to have her burned at the stake. If you think it would be perfectly fine to have a movie about an abused 14 year old girl run away to play housemaid for a bunch of men, get kissed in her sleep/death by an adult man, and then wake up to fall into his arms in 2024, that's certainly a hot take. If you're against remakes, direct your ire at Disney. But if you truly think that plot would work with young girls today, you're the one who's out of touch. It would do far more harm than good to portray a young woman in that light.
She also never said that there was anything wrong with romance or love. She said that the new Snow White wasn't only dreaming of that. I can't stress enough that this wasn't her decision… she was describing the plot of the new film that was written by Greta Gerwig and approved by Disney. There's a prince in the film and he will also have a more developed personality and storyline. If you have a problem with the writing, wait until it comes out so you can write your strongly worded letter to Greta. If you have a problem with the concept in general, take it up with Disney. There's no need for you to be defensive over hurting the legacy of a multi-billion dollar company or a 87 year old cartoon written by a proud racist antisemite. This is the most confusing part of the hate campaign to me because it wasn't even her opinion— she was literally describing the plot of the film she had nothing to do with. It also isn't a new thing. Disney actors have been promoting their newer films this way for years.
It's perfectly okay to like things that are problematic. It's becoming an issue that we refuse to acknowledge that maybe some things we love are harmful. What we can't do is justify why it's not problematic, and in fact everyone who calls it out is the problem and NOT their precious cartoon. The 1937 Snow White was an amazing feat of animation. It's a classic for a reason. But it was also Hitler's favorite film and was directed by a white supremacist (the one who is "rolling in his grave" due to Rachel's existence, according to his son). Things don't exist in a vacuum and we can't ignore the bad parts.
How We Got Here:
The thing that everyone is missing is the source of this campaign. This started in September of 2020 when transphobic actor Gina Carano made fun of trans people by changing her pronouns to beep/bop.boop. Rachel indirectly called her out by coming to the defense of the trans community.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She never called out Gina by name (though she rightfully could have). Mind you, Rachel's first film hadn't come out yet. Nobody knew who she was outside of those of us who were anticipating West Side Story and were fans of her covers on YouTube. She was a "nobody" in the industry. Take this part with a grain of salt because I can't confirm it, but Gina and her fans directly blame Rachel for her being banned from Twitter. Again, I really don't think that matters as she's harmful to the trans community and shouldn't have a platform. What does matter is that fans of Gina (which, let's be real, are just fans of transphobia) have been stalking Rachel's every move since then. Unfortunately for them, there wasn't much they could use against her other than to call her woke and #snowbrown when she was cast a year later as the Disney princess. The noise has always been there, but unless you were a fan of hers, you probably didn't hear about it. It wasn't until two years after this that they had something else against her.
If you've recently seen a video of Rachel crying circulating that claims to be her reaction to the recent Snow White backlash, it's an old video. It's from a vlog from her youtube channel posted in June 2022. It was in response to these exact same transphobic anti-woke conservatives who thought that they had something when she did an interview on the red carpet of the Shazam premiere. When asked why she joined the DC universe, she responded "I needed a job." It was generally well received by most people who thought it was cute and funny, but those who were waiting in the shadows latched onto it as an excuse to send her death threats.
The video was also about a month after she was invited to present at the 2022 Oscars and was made to seem like she bullied the Academy (as a no name newcomer, mind you) into letting her attend. In reality, a fan left a comment on her Instagram asking what she was wearing to the event. She responded that she wasn't invited but would be rooting for everyone from her couch in her boyfriend's pajamas. It was the public who demanded she get an invite and the Oscar's must have agreed that it was very odd that the lead actress of a film that was nominated for Best Film wouldn't get an invite. Whether it was an oversight on their part or a scheduling issue with Rachel's filming, I truly think there was no malicious intent from either party. Keep in mind, she used to be very active with her fans (she's a huge fangirl of things herself and has always had a strong relationship with her fans) and she wasn't used to her comments becoming articles and national tv segments. This was the first time it happened to her. It appears she learned that she's not just a girl who posts on YouTube anymore and she's going to be put under a microscope for every move she makes. She has since shut down her Instagram comments and rarely interacts with fans outside of liking comments these days because of this.
I know this is long, but I need people to understand where this is all coming from. It didn't just happen out of nowhere. It's an orchestrated campaign built by violent conservatives, and thousands of women who saw Barbie this summer are hopping on the bandwagon to beat another woman into submission because they have a lot of internalized misogyny to deal with. She's not smug, you just hate women. It's okay to find people annoying, but it's valuable to look into why you think that. If you see a confident young woman expressing views that don't actually harm anyone and you think she needs to be "humbled" and "put in her place" by the entire internet dogpiling her, you've lost your mind. Using "body language experts" (fake job) to diagnose her as a psychopath is so vile. Everytime someone mentions her name online, the comments beneath it are full of the most violent, misogynistic, racist things I've ever seen. If you're contributing to that, you've chosen your side. Reevaluate or seek help.
I'm tired of seeing this happen to young women. We let this happen to Jennifer Lawrence, Brie Larson, Millie Bobby Brown, Halle Bailey, and Jenna Ortega. It's one thing to call out celebrities and hold them accountable when they're doing something actively harmful, but that's not what this is about. That's never been what this is about. We pick these girls to pieces and examine them and pull them apart to justify our hatred of young women who rise to success too quickly for our liking. We dogpile and try to stamp out the flame before they burn too bright. Barbie is still in theaters and you all loved it, yet you're demanding that a bright girl with a big future be small and submissive and humbled because you have issues. That's not feminism. You're just the girls who would have bullied Weird Barbie for using her hands too much when she talks.

Best Friend’s Crush
(Harlow sister’s best friend reader x Jack)
T/W: smut❤️‍🔥, self-stimulation
You and Sophia Harlow were best friends, it had been this way ever since you met in college at 18 years old. You and Sophia met in class and immediately became best friends, instantly becoming inseparable. You knew Sophia had two brothers, Jack and Clay. Clay was one year younger than you and Sophia, while Jack was one year older.
From the very start, Sophia told you about how Jack didn’t go to college and was instead chasing his dreams of becoming a rapper in Atlanta. Sophia was always very supportive of Jack and happy for him. In 2018, when you girls were 19 and he was 20, during the Gazebo tour, Jack had a tour stop in your college town. She asked you to go with her, and you happily agreed. You had only heard one or two songs that Sophia would sometimes play in the car. You had never taken the time to actually listen to his music, you pretty much didn’t know anything about him.
You both went to the concert, and you had a lot of fun. You were surprised at how talented he was. You had noticed he was cute but didn’t give it a second thought, you were dating your ex-boyfriend Chase at the time anyway. You were madly in love with Chase, so the idea of fancying other men didn’t even cross your mind. You had a very healthy relationship and only had eyes for him.
As time went on, you and Sophia were amazed to see how big Jack was getting, and you could see how happy and proud Sophia was for him. You and her would always play Jack’s music, and you really became a fan, you even went to every single one of his tours each time it stopped in your college town. With all that said, for some reason you and Jack had never met, it was not like you girls would go backstage or hang with him after those shows.
Fast-forward to the beginning of the spring of 2022, you and Chase broke up. Basically, you had grown apart and changed as people, so you were not looking for the same thing anymore. It was tough at the beginning seeing as it had been a long relationship; but more than anything, it hit you because you were used to dating him, not because you loved him. I mean, at one point you did, but not anymore. It was college love.
A few months later you were over him and living your best life. Jack started getting really popular, and you would find yourself constantly listening to Come Home The Kids Miss You. Were you a fan of his music? You totally were. Did you think Jack was cute? You sure did, since 2021 you were in awe of how handsome he had gotten but never thought too much about it. At the time, you were in love with Chase and didn’t think much about other boys’ looks. Did you have a crush on him? You kinda did. You thought the lyrics on Come Home The Kids Miss You were kinda hot.
When the Angie Martinez interview came out, Sophia had sent it to you. You watched it and to your surprise, you couldn’t stop giggling and smiling like an idiot. You were crushing hard… You couldn’t believe you were crushing over your best friend’s brother and acting a damn fool over him. You were mad at yourself. You debated on stopping the video but decided it was too good to deprive yourself of something you were enjoying a lot.
After you finished the video, you didn’t even respond to Sophia letting her know you had watched it. You just left her on read and changed the topic, you were too embarrassed about the fact that you were drooling over her brother. Why were you embarrassed, she wouldn’t know about it if you didn’t tell her?
One night a few days later, you found yourself scrolling through Instagram in bed. Suddenly, your Explore page was filled with pictures and videos of Jack, and you looked at picture after picture and video after video. You ended up stalking his profile for a while and even saw he had recently posted a series of pictures from his Rolling Stone cover story.
You were foaming at the mouth with how handsome and sexy he looked, you started having all these dirty thoughts about him and thinking about the things you would want to do to him. Your hand slowly started moving down, making its way inside your shorts, and your fingers started slowly rubbing circles around your clit, a tiny little moan escaping your lips. While this was happening, you were intently looking at picture after picture of Jack.
“His arms are so strong”, you thought. Your finger movements became faster and faster and the pressure became stronger and more precise, the feeling was delicious. You started quietly moaning his name.
“Jack, Jaaack”, thank God there was no one home. You started to picture yourself making out with Jack in his bed, you slowly inserted two fingers inside your dripping cunt. Fuck, you were so wet. You moaned imagining your fingers were Jack’s dick, you were sure his dick must be big and that only added to the quality of the sweet image you were picturing in your mind of the scene. You started pumping your fingers in and out faster and faster, perfectly touching your cushiony ceiling each and every time. You were a babbling mess when you decided to take your other hand’s index finger down and draw circles around your clit.
“Aaaah, Jack”, you were mentally moaning his name, you were just in so much pleasure. 10 seconds later you came, and hard. You were a heavy-breathing mess and started to slowly ride out your high with your hand slowly rubbing your vulva once more, but this time delicately.
You finally came down, your breathing was erratic and your mind was a lustful mess. You were cock drunk without a man even touching you. You plopped down on the pillow, thinking about how horny you were for this man. As the weeks went by, you made it a point to not look at any Jack content or think about him. You were so against the idea of having a crush on him.
Sophia was like a sister to you, and you were scared that her finding out about you having a crush would make things awkward.
*Second chapter teaser: Sophia asked you to go to Louisville with her for the weekend. She wanted to visit her parents and she thought it was the perfect opportunity for you to see the city and meet her parents. You were looking forward to it, Sophia would always talk about Louisville and about her family, so to say you were excited was an understatement.
Lmk if you would like me to write another chapter…

TV - Mighty Ducks x GN Reader
“Don’t know where you are right now…did you see me on TV?”
“Maybe I, maybe I, maybe I’m the problem…”
-TV, Billie Eillish 2022
Mighty Ducks 3/Adam Banks x GN Reader
Fem or Male, I imagined it as Male but it works either way. Y/n’s sport is not specified either.
Warnings: Angst, jealousy/comparing yourself, implications of depression, might sound a bit dramatic and kinda me projecting just a wee bit , and no real implications of romance.
3-8
The other team was up by 5 points, and the score board only 3 minutes to sounding. I could see people rushing around me, eyes trained on the ball. But I was just too tired to move my legs.
My mind was swimming, the people sat on the bleachers were screaming into my ear like fuzzy, TV static. But my brain dampened the noise, putting a soggy blanket over my ears. My eyelids were heavy, and the rim of my eyes were feeling warm and heavy like I was gonna cry;  but I wasn’t crying.
People whiz past me again, and I turn and try pushing myself to follow them. They were getting too close to the goal; I saw them rushing towards it. But for some reason my dampened ears and brain weren’t letting me comprehend what was truly happening, only faintly reminding me that some of the staticky-screams were from my teammates yelling at me.
The buzzer blares, overlapping with the ‘end of game’ alarm that sounds right after it and I feel my shoulders slump.
3-9.
Next to me there’s grumbling, a few mutters to “go after it next time” as my teammates go past me. To think I’m the captain, absolute shit.
Their condescending tones and energy are enough to shove me away, stumbling over my feet as I squeeze my eyes shut. Maybe I was crying, maybe that’s why the ground below me felt so unstable and blurry.
I walk over the the sidelines with my head hanging low and fists clenched as one thought echoes through me;
I want to go home.
The air in the locker room was suffocating, coach’s after-game talk doing nothing more than stirring the annoyance everyone felt. His words felt like lukewarm water against my fizzling ears, skin melting away like foam. It felt as if every look, word, glance was pointed towards me, and the ‘C’ on my jacket burning until I felt I needed to cover it; hide it away from them all in shame.
No one spoke to me when we all poured out into the afternoon’s air, the near-empty parking lot giving plenty of space for me to duck into my car without speaking a word.
****
“The Eden Hall Warriors, though nicknamed the “Mighty Ducks” are on the ice again as they face their neighboring school, the Brookefield Bears…”
The TV echoes through the living room, only a portion of the screen visible to my eye as i sink further and further into the cushions of the couch.
Scraps of food, left on my plate that now sits on the coffee table accompanied by a singular soda can. I wasn’t hungry enough to finish it.
“Player Adam Banks goes for the puck, with years of experience under his belt! Oh and boy is it showing tonight, with a slick pass to Conway…”
The familiar name makes me narrow my eyes at the tv screen, thinking back to that name.
Adam Banks.
I knew him, once. Back in elementary school we’d all gather together on the playground to play whatever game was most “popular” at the time.
It’s a weird feeling, seeing this random boy from years ago suddenly on television.
He was always talented, passionate. Sometimes I wonder if he’d recognize me, on the slight chance we’d ever see each other again. I mean, it’s not like we were best friends or anything, but when he seems to be on television as often as he is it’s hard not to think back on him.
My head was still cloudy, from todays events. Seeing the Ducks, how they so easily glide across the ice in such a synchronized manner it really makes me wonder - what the hell have I been doing?
Todays game was not unique, the flaws to our skills showing with ease.
What was he doing right, that I wasn’t?
I sit up, shakily moving my head away from the scratchy pillows as I analyze the game through the TV.
It’s always easy to compare yourself to someone. Just a quick thought, able to bring all sorts of insecurities that you hadn’t thought of before.
I never thought I’d be sitting here, in this dark, depressing living room comparing my skills to Adam Banks of all people.
Though maybe it wasn’t all about skills.
Maybe it was the fact that someone my age, from my town, could’ve evolved into this successful athlete in just a few years while I had no choice but to watch.
Maybe I should be happy for him- he was always nice to me, after all. But then again comparisons are just so much easier for the envious, greedy bystanders like me.
How does high school hockey even end up on the television? What channel am I on again?
‘-it goes in! Another point for the Ducks-‘
I groan, letting my head fall back and rest on the couch’s back. I crane my neck to look at the ceiling, unmoving fan casting a shadow on the plain white area. The announcer’s voice pricks my ears, as I try blocking him out to think.
But as hard as I tried, the thoughts had more static to them than the TV itself. And so I tried to stop, but it didn’t go away.
A mix of comparisons, jealousy, images from sports fails bounce around in my head until they overlapped in the most obnoxious way possible.
That damn announcer’s voice screamed, echoing in the back of my head like a bad song being repeated over and over.
“Oh, shut up…” I groan, hitting my hand against the pillow as a wave of exhaustion washes over me.
The thoughts fade in and out, volume turning up and down, up and down, like an echo.
“Banks steals the puck, bringing it back up towards Brookefield’s goal-!”
God, could this guys voice be any higher in pitch…
“Mendoza follows up, he’s got the puck now!”
“He’s going for it!”
I flinch as the buzzer goes off, echoing through the speakers and wafting through the living room.
“And there it is, folks! Yet anoth….
I roll over onto my side, loosely hugging myself as my fists unclench and my eyes squeeze shut once more.
I could hear the announcer rambling off into the microphone, people on the bleachers going wild in the background.
It was so loud.
“Maybe I’m the problem…”
.
I let the remark hang in the room for another moment, all my thoughts suddenly going quiet. It felt like a sort of confirmation, in a way. Something agreeing with me- yes, you are, the problem.
I slowly open my eyes, letting them wander towards the screen. Hockey players in red jersey’s celebrating, skating laps around the rink. Of course.
I move my gaze back to the scratchy pillows and couch cushions.
Maybe I was just being dramatic. After all, that is what it felt like. Such a small comparison to make, though it felt like hundreds of signs, just pointing at me.
One final, sour laugh escapes my throat, before disappearing. “‘M definitely the problem…”

well, if it helps, both your layout and your writing always makes me foam in the mouth. i’ve been following you for quite sometime, even before i started to be post here, and you’ve never failed to make me go aaaahhh, pretty!!!!!
wait a carrie fic would go so hard, actually, pls do!!! ONG halloween is my favorite time of the year (and we don’t celebrate it in my country), but i love the vibes of spending the night with horror movies. what’s your favorite btw? mine is freddy vs jason, and i like the first conjuring a lot, but fucking hate lorraine and ed (the real ones)
spine tattoos are so fucking cool, except this one girl i went to high school with, she made one and fucks sake i’m not one to judge others tattoos (physically can’t because mine are weird af) but she made all the wrong choices one could do, she is a terrible person so let’s just say it was karma, i guess.
how many piercings you have? i have 5, want to do my lips and eyebrow until next year, and more tattoos, as well.
i want to, really do, but i’m not comfortable with my drawings yet, you see when you are born in a family of artists and you have a sibling that is a tattoo artist you kinda keep comparing and going “i fucking suck at this” but at least free tattoos for moi :)
anyways i yapped a lot, the more i talk the more embarrassed i’ll be when i come clean on who i am, totally worth it tho.

Today's film is The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. To see if the "nic cage film subversion" applied.
I'll be honest. It felt wrong. Subverting the Nic Cage film or character archetype is one thing, riffing off the real man's life was too uncanny. Actors have pulled off cameos as a version of themselves but a whole film felt oddly... exploitative. I mean, I don't exactly feel strongly about it like the way true crime media has me foaming at the mouth about revictimization or bad biopics flatten a life into a hero's journey. Nevertheless, the real life fact is Cage made a bunch of stupid purchases during a career low and then had to take a bunch of films he didn't care for to repay his debts instead of doing his usual one for work, one for the art. In 2022, he was solvent again and able to choose passion projects. It's hardly tragic compared to your average worker's dilemmas and yet, having a meta film made about your bad choices still has a cringey taste to it.
Pedro Pascal is not well served by the script or the tone shifts, he pulls off being a genuine man and fan but he's not given anything to flesh that out or add dimension to what could have been an interesting character torn between his own ethics and his family. As for Cage the character, he's a cartoon and part of me is glad he stayed that way and cage didn't offer up any personal information or anecdotes to make the caricature more legit. He played it like a stranger unwilling to dive deep into this cartoon cage. Tied to his philosophy of not wanting to taint your experience of a film with his beliefs or personal life. I guess that's part of the uncannyness : the man who won't tell you about his faith so you won't view a film about faith any differently is having to make a film about a fictional version of himself based on a bunch of things he probably wishes he could debunk.
The bromance was sold well but the story was not credible and neither actor got to show their range. Neil Patrick Harris as the manager breaks immersion in the story everytime you see him, Tiffany Haddish to a certain extent too. They could have pulled this off with unknown faces and fully leaning into a different genre like dark comedy or surrealism. I think a less "accessible" film with a more trippy vision and reflections on the public performance as a similar performance to movies could have been a cult hit. I recommend looking up nic cage interviewed terry wogan where they both are on cocaine but Cage is totally off his gourd for a taste of what it feels like to watch a man perform himself.

Caffeinatedflumadiddle put up a post on their pjo specific blog - apparently they're quitting because their personal information got too widespread and there was an unspecified incident. They're fine but it made them think so they're quitting the fanfic scene. Caffeinatedflumadiddlebutpjo
Damn. That sucks. I’m on the Son of Sea Foam discord and we’re all scrambling to archive their stuff atm, but if it’s better for them to go, then that’s what’s gotta happen. I just hope they’ll be okay going forwards. x

My #1 post of 2022
I just have to say, sometimes actors are...not wasted on low-level shows, but the talent they exude doesn’t match the rest of the media.
A good example is Charles Dance as Aredian in BBC Merlin. He’s excellent, unbelievably good - but there’s an edge to his acting where you can just tell he’d be a tour de force elsewhere, to compare, think about his Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones. Charles Dance’s performance is always exemplary and when it comes to shows like Merlin, that exemplar talent is sometimes too much for the vibe of the show they’re playing in - especially when it comes to minor villains like that. His death at the end of the episode was an insult to the amount of effort he put into that character. Aredian easily could have been a recurring villain instead- but I’m getting carried away with myself.
In comparison, Liam Neeson in the new season of Derry Girls? Perfect. Outstanding. You see a big-name actor and go AH-HA!!! IT IS YOU!!! and instead of going YES, IT IS I, THE ACTOR WITH THE FAME, Liam instead is relegated to the background where his character belongs, the main group taking centre stage.
I think my point here is that Aredian was over-acted, but its 5am and I just want to talk meta. Kudos to anyone who wants to add their favourite examples to this, good and bad!

Loki, laying in the floor with his legs in the air: Hey, Thor. Come here.
Thor: *approaches*
Loki: Closer.
Thor: *bends over*
Loki: *kicks him in the stomach*
Thor: Y/N, LOKI KICKED ME IN THE STOMACH!!
Loki: No I didn’t! I tapped you with my toes!
Thor: Do you even hear yourself?!
Loki: It’s your fault. I’m always wary when you call me over!
Thor: Because you’re worried I’m going to hug you! I thought you were going to say something nice, but no! You kick me in the stomach!
Y/N: *sighs*

Boo!
Loki: Boo!
Y/N: Jeez, Loki, I think you just took three years off my life.
Loki, panicking: WHAT?!? Quick, how do I give them back?
Y/N: Oh, don’t worry! It’s just an expression here on Earth.
Loki: In that case, I think you just took 20 off of mine.

If you’d like another Rise prompt, maybe something about Donnie’s battleshell? If that’s too vague, maybe its origins, or maybe what Splinter thinks about it?
this is also set in the human splinter au <3

When Donatello was a baby, Yoshi didn’t worry quite as much about his soft shell. He and his brothers were all the same sort of fragile, questionable mutation and its potential effects aside, and Yoshi panicked over each of them an equal amount.
They played hard. They always wanted to climb and run and tumble. Yoshi is inclined to blame the ooze that psychotic goat-man alchemist pumped them full of, because blaming him is neat and comfortable and makes Yoshi feel warm inside.
But Yoshi has also spent a not-insignificant amount of his fortune on parenting books and magazine subscriptions, and according to the experts, children are just tiny crazy people who will run at full-speed into a wall multiple times for no reason.
Which is fine. Yoshi has been a papa for almost four years now and it’s quite possible that he’ll never want to be anything else ever again for as long as he lives. His boys have secured their place in his heart and no amount of broken windows or crayon-scribbled walls or gutted kitchen appliances (???) will change that.
The problem is that Donatello’s shell doesn’t afford him the same protection that his brothers’ do. He’s as fast and strong as the other three, and easily twice as smart, but he’s just not as hardy.
Yoshi has no idea what he would do without his credit card and his talent manager-turned-reluctant-godmother. Between the two of them, he has an answer for everything.
“I don’t want to,” Donatello announces before Yoshi has even opened his mouth.
“You don’t want to go roller-skating?” he says, affecting a tone of complete surprise. It causes Donatello’s chubby face to fold into an epic pout, which is adorable, which makes up for how frustrating he can be when he digs his little heels in about something.
“No, papa, I want to go. But I don’t want to wear that dum-dum thing.”
“Your Auntie Hala is going to cry for days and days when I tell her how much you hate the present she got you,” Yoshi tells him solemnly.
Donatello considers this. Then he says, “Don’t tell her.”
Ah, logic Yoshi can’t actually find fault with. He never would have guessed he’d spend his early thirties losing so many arguments with a turtle toddler.
“You are wise beyond your years,” he says, wondering what it will look like when Donatello is a teenager, and whether or not Yoshi will survive it.
The ‘dum-dum thing’ in question is a modified back brace, meant for children with spinal disorders. Yoshi is pretty sure this qualifies. The reason Donatello hates it so much is the modifications Yoshi made to it; namely, the memory foam cover for his leathery carapace. It’s bulky and it slows him down and he hates falling behind the other three. Lately he’s taken to sitting out of their games because he would rather tinker by himself than wear the brace.
Yoshi is a little worried about that. He hasn’t come up with a way to make everyone happy yet, and he’s losing sleep trying to figure it out.
Leonardo pokes his head through the doorway. “Papa you said we were going,” he whines. “How come we’re not?”
“Negotiations have broken down,” Yoshi says, kneading his forehead with his palm.
“Dunno what that is,” Leonardo declares and visibly puts it out of his mind as not his problem. “Don-don, come on. We’re gonna skate.”
“No,” Donatello declares. His mouth is screwed up, brow furrowed, fully ready to be a little monster about it. “I don’t want to go if I have to wear the dumb fake shell.”
Leonardo tips his head to one side, considering this. It’s no secret to his brothers that Donatello has no fondness for the brace. This usually culminates in one or three of them helping him to escape it, and then hiding it somewhere stupid for Yoshi to find like the world’s worst Easter Egg hunt.
“We’re twins,” Leonardo says with all the unyielding certainty of a schoolteacher discussing matters with an obstinate child. “So we have to share. I’ll wear it, and then Donnie will wear it, and then it’s fair.”
Somehow—Yoshi can’t believe this, but somehow the logic goes to work. Donatello’s expression shifts from mullish to thoughtful. The most stubborn little treasure in Yoshi’s entire life is giving ground.
“It’s fair,” he agrees. He and Leonardo turn their big brown eyes up to Yoshi expectantly.
Honestly, Yoshi can’t believe he’s not going to have to wrestle Donatello into the brace for once in their lives. He’s a little embarrassed his second youngest child thought of this neat little solution before him. It costs him absolutely nothing to agree, and he straps the brace onto Leonardo’s back instead. When they get to the rink, one that Yoshi has unapologetically rented out for the afternoon so his kids can play freely, they’ll switch, and Donatello will wear it while the four of them turn inline skating into a contact sport.
And nearly a decade down the road, when Donatello is building advanced technology the way other kids his age are building blanket forts out of the couch cushions and Yoshi’s best sheets (re: his siblings) and he has long-since traded the brace for an armored shell of his own design, he goes from absolutely refusing to put it on to pretty much never letting anyone see him without it, ever, or else.
Because no son of Yoshi’s would understand the idea of a happy middle ground. It’s all or nothing, go big or go home in this house.
This is when the twin thing continues to save the day.

“Hamato Donatello,” Leo said, his even tone riding the line of good humor and sternness both. “How much shell time have you had today?”
Donnie pointedly doesn’t look up from his iPad. Making eye contact in these moments is too risky. Leo can clock a lie with such accuracy that Donnie thinks it must be a secondary mutation or something, because it certainly isn't natural. The only reason any of them get away with anything is because Donnie’s twin is an agent of chaos, more likely to encourage their stupidity than put a kibosh on it.
Shell time, however, is one of Those Things Leo Takes Very Seriously.
“Scoff,” Donnie says. “I’ll take a break in a minute, I want to finish reading this dissertation I found about chronic musculoskeletal pain and physiotherapy. Not all of it can be applied to us, given that it’s written by humans for humans, but—”
“Dude, it’s like four PM.” Leo’s tone has made its choice, leaning away from amused and into firm. Nooo. “You’re not gonna be able to sleep tonight if you don’t stretch out soon.”
“And I will, soon,” Don replies. It’s the pinnacle of absurdity that they’re talking about his stupid spine when Leo is the one recovering from multiple traumatic injuries.
Leo doesn’t think so, because of course he doesn’t. He’s like a dog with a bone. His persistent personality has saved all their shells more than a dozen times but that doesn’t mean Donnie has to like it when it’s aimed against him.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” the slider says with no small amount of showmanship.
Despite himself, Donnie glances up from his tablet. He can feel himself go soft to match his dumb shell, even if it doesn’t show on his face. He loves Leo so much, even when Leo’s being his absolute worst self, and right now Leo is being his best. Warmth unspools like fiber cable in Donnie’s chest, prickly and sparking.
They came so close to losing him. What would they have done without him? It’s frightening to think about. For once in his life, Donnie doesn’t want to know.
He sits back in his chair, ignoring the twinge in his lower back the way he’s ignored it for the past three hours, and says, “What does the hard way look like?”
“You’re gonna hate it.”
“Color me intrigued.”
Leo shrugs and starts to lift himself up. The infirmary bed is raised at an angle, to help Leo breathe and reduce the risk of pneumonia that has kept Don awake at night, but now he’s pushing himself upright all the way, kicking at his blanket with the foot that isn’t casted.
“Oh my god, stop, I hate it,” Donnie blurts, all but flinging his tablet aside in his rush to put an end to this nightmare. “You win, you monster!”
Smugly, Leo says, “I always win. Even when I lose.”
“Oh, you must be feeling better,” Don tells him, easing him back down with gentle hands that don’t match his annoyed tone. “Because once again, you are completely delusional.”
It earns him a chuckle, a wheezing shade of what should have been a loud, lively thing, but it feels like a victory anyway. Don will take it. He won’t let it go.
Leo pats the bed beside him. Donnie sighs performatively, but he’s turtle enough to admit when he’s been outplayed.
The battle shell disengages with a hiss of hydraulics and he sets it aside. It’s such an immediate relief to work out his shoulders, and twist his fragile spine, that he maybe should have taken it off earlier, after all.
“Bring your tablet over here,” Leo says. “I wanna watch that baking show where no one knows what they’re doing.”
Donnie settles in beside him, and he doesn’t outwardly fuss the way Raph and Mikey and Casey all do, but he’s very, very careful behind the casual manner. His brother’s body was so broken, almost beyond repair. He has months of recovery left, and as the team medic, Leo knows that.
But he did what he did for the sake of his family and now he just wants to be close to them. He doesn’t want to be shut away in the infirmary and tiptoed around and hugged so gingerly that the mean voice in his brain is able to convince him that the space and distance and reluctant touches are because he did something wrong.
That mean inner voice that Leo sometimes listens to is as much his siblings’ sworn enemy as the Shredder ever was.
So, after a clan meeting taken when Leo was finally, fitfully asleep, and one educational screening of Patch Adams that made Casey and Raph both cry, they decided to forgo all the values of traditional medicine and give Leo what he needed instead.
They’re hardier than baseline humans are, and if the Krang couldn’t kill Leo in its own dimension than it’s likely nothing can, and these are the arguments Leo makes to be allowed out of bed.

for what it’s worth, it was worth all the while

Leo’s arms squeeze tight around them for three seconds, four—and then they fall loose. He slumps forward and would have hit the ground if Donnie and Mikey didn’t scramble to support his sudden deadweight.
They push him back upright, and then ease him into a careful lean against Raph’s cracked plastron. Raph wraps sore hands carefully around Leo’s slim shoulders, hyper-aware of every cut and bruise on his little brother’s battered body.
Leo’s head lolls as if he’s asleep, or—as if he’s asleep.
The giddy relief of an extremely close victory drains away in favor of fear. All three of them are shaking with the leftover dregs of adrenaline.
“What’s wrong with him?” Mikey asks shrilly. He’s clutching Leo’s arm like he doesn’t trust Leo to remain solid if he lets go.
“You want that list alphabetically or in descending order of how much each issue complicates my life?” Donnie replies shortly, lowering the lenses of his goggles over his eyes.
If it were anyone else, Raph and Mikey both would have snapped at the inappropriately irreverent tone—but it’s Donatello. They know how he wears his worry. Whatever he’s picking up with his scan, it’s causing his lips to thin, and lines to tighten around his eyes.
He’s an engineer, not a medic—Leo fills that uncredited role—but Donnie is Leo’s usual extra set of hands in the infirmary, so he picked up a thing or two. Raph can tell, from the careful, deliberate way he touches his twin’s neck and feels around the base of his skull, that Donnie is mentally rehearsing everything he knows about head trauma and spinal injuries.
“It should be safe to move him,” he finally says, sitting back on his heels. Absolutely none of that worry, poorly moonlighting as dispassion, has left his eyes. “I want him back home in the medbay immediately. Like, a week ago immediately. But,” he adds, uncomfortable being the voice of comfort and doing his best with it regardless, “he’ll be okay.”
It’s like Raph’s shell was too tight right up until that moment, crushing his lungs and restricting his air. And now he can breathe again.
“Of course he will,” he chokes out.
“It’s not a medbay if it’s not on a spaceship,” Mikey replies absently, doing a decent job of sounding like he’s not on the verge of hysterics as he helps tuck Leo safely into the crook of Raph’s arm. “You normally just call it the spa.”
“Ninety-nine percent of the time we only use that room for mud masks and manicures. So sue me.”
“Alright,” Raph butts in, not unkindly, “we can argue about it later. I’m sure Leo will have some key points to add. Donnie, the tank is out of commission for the time being—do you have any other ride you could call for us? If not, we might need to, uh—borrow one.”
He can’t even bring himself to feel guilty about it. He would do a lot worse than steal a car for his family, even if it sets a bad example. Donnie’s frown deepens as he taps on his holo-gauntlet, which Raph takes as a sign that he doesn’t actually have a secret fleet of vehicles he can summon from now that most of his tech has been soundly smashed by the Krang.
“Way ahead of you, mister,” a voice chimes in from the comms, and as one, the turtles glance at the glowing emblem on Raph’s forearm.
“April?” Mikey’s voice shoots upwards gladly. “Hey! You’re okay!”
“Of course I am, what’s a little city-wide alien invasion? I went to public school. And you boys need to update me pronto! Splints and I have been losing our minds over here! We got Leo back?”
“Yeah, we got him,” Raph affirms. He holds Leo a little tighter. They very nearly almost didn’t get him. “You can thank Mikey for that.”
Their sister makes a choked noise, what was clearly a sob before she strangled it into submission. “Angelo, you’re getting one helluva hug from me the second I see you. Brace yourself, baby.”
“Consider me braced,” Mikey says. His smile is shaky, but he manages to keep it.
“We just picked up Future Boy, and we’re on our way to you now. Give us two shakes—maybe three. Traffic’s kind of not great.”
“Ten-four, Apricot,” Donnie says, and then the comm goes silent, and the three of them just sort of look at each other.
With help on the way, and nothing to do but wait, there’s time for the hurts they’ve been too busy for to finally settle in.
Raph can barely keep his right eye open, it burns so much. His left shoulder is a solid ache. Mikey’s hands are still shaking, and Raph thinks maybe it has less to do with adrenaline than he thought, and more to do with that golden portal he tore open out of sheer stubborn, inexhaustible love. And Donnie is sitting in that tense, stiff way he only does when his battle shell is hurting more than it’s helping, his mouth set in a firm line that Raph knows means he’s gone nonverbal for the time being.
Still… still.

Prompt: rise!Raph’s relationship with sweaters/jackets and how they always tear
x
Raph is twelve when he finally gets the jacket he’s been dreaming of forever—since he saw it in a magazine April left in the lair weeks and weeks ago.
Pops doesn’t usually go in for new clothes. They’re harder for him to get his hands on, and Raph can definitely understand his school of thought—new clothes would only stay new-ish for a handful of hours, given the rough way he and his brothers tumble around and play.
But Raph really wants this jacket. And he swears up and down that he’ll take care of it, he won’t practice ninja or skateboard or play in it.
April’s mom works at a big fancy department store and she’s happy to use her perks for one of her daughter’s best friends. Pops has lots of ‘savings’ leftover from his old job, even though he refuses to tell them what he used to do, no matter how much they pester him about it. So on Raph’s next birthday, he gets the jacket.
He’s so excited. Normally his presents are things that he and his siblings can all share—and he’s happy with that! He loves to share with them! But this is nice, too. Having something that’s just his.
“Put it on, Raph, let’s see!” April says eagerly over the sound of his brothers’ raucous cheering, so as soon as Splinter hands it over, Raph does.
And it rips.
He can hear the sound of shredding fabric. It seems impossibly loud. It shouldn’t cut through the noise of the party like it does, but it does. Everyone gets very quiet.
The thing is—Raph is built different, just like Donnie. But where Donnie is soft, Raph is sharp. He’s always had to be very careful with his brothers, because one wrong move and he could accidentally hurt them. He’s grown up that way, being careful of others. He forgets to be careful with himself.
“Red, it’s alright,” Pops says quickly, laying a hand on his arm. “We can get you a new one.”
But the same thing would just happen again, no matter how many replacements they buy him.
Raphael is the oldest, and he has to set a good example, and throwing a tantrum or bursting into tears at his birthday party isn’t a good example. So he wrestles for control of his expression and says, “Let me just stick this in my room real quick,” and then vanishes as quickly as he can so the sniffles don’t start until his siblings can’t hear him.
In his bedroom, he slides the jacket back off, wincing when the torn parts of the sleeves catch against his rough skin. He wants to throw it far away from him, but it's still a gift. He sets it down instead, folded inward so none of the tears show.
When Raph gets back to the atrium, he’s managed to come up with a grin, and he waves away his brothers’ worried glances. April has forced the party back into momentum by sheer force of her substantial willpower, though she does spare Raph a soft, big-sister-look that promises they’ll be talking about it later.
Years and years down the road, that particular birthday is a crystallized memory, one he thinks back on a lot. It’s the first time Raph remembers hating something about himself. But he also remembers that the feeling only survived until that same evening, a few hours later, when Leo poked his head through Raph’s bedroom door.
“Raph, c’mon, birthday dinner.”
It’s tradition, by now, for each of them to end their birthday with their favorite takeout at their favorite place in the underground, just the four of them. (This has to be negotiated days in advance of the twins’ birthday, because arguing for sport, and sometimes in song, is one of their favorite hobbies.) Raph’s is easy, though—the City Hall loop station, with its massive arched ceilings and the beautiful broken skylights. Donnie even gets the lights on for him, so the whole place is glowing and warm.
He can already smell pepperoni and garlic. He can hear Donnie and Mikey talking further down the hall, a little more subdued than usual. He should go out there since they’re waiting for him. He doesn’t want to disappoint them, but he isn’t sure if he can find a cheerful face to put on. He thinks he wants to just…stay in his room, maybe.
Then Leo says, “But can I please wear your jacket?? Please please pleaaaaase, Raphie?”
Raph blinks, glancing up at him. The gaping surprise makes his tear-sticky face feel funny.
“The one I just got? Leon, it’s—” Ruined, he can’t bring himself to say. He can’t even bring himself to look at it.
“The coolest thing ever, I know,” his little brother says enthusiastically, pushing the door open the rest of the way and hurrying inside. He snatches the jacket up off the back of the chair it’s resting on and holds it out at arms’ length, admiring the details. “Honestly—can I be honest with you? I didn’t think much of it at first, like, when I saw it in the magazine. But after your modifications?” He whistles low, something he learned to do specifically to annoy Donatello.
“Modifications?” Raph says uncertainly.
“Yeah! DIY style is big, you know! And ripped clothes are in.”
Leo slides the jacket on. It’s comically big on him, and the holes in the arms are mostly hidden by the way the fabric bunches up; the tears along the shoulders are more obvious. It does something unhappy to Raph’s stomach when he sees them.
But then Leo starts posing in the mirror, and pats himself down for a camera he doesn’t have, and hollers down the hallway for Donnie to come get a picture of him.
It must be cool if Leo thinks it’s cool.
“So?” Leo asks with those big puppy-dog eyes he taught Mikey when they were little, to absolutely everyone’s detriment and Leo’s eternal chagrin. “Can I, Raph?”

mx Kendra, I have two points I must bring up (technically three but I'm mayyybe lil drunk, so it's cool) 1. every picture of your meow meow has him up and centred, like he really can't help being the point of absolute magnetism. sir I hope you enjoy people throwing themselves at you willy nilly I can't see the future, but anyone can tell that's what ur going to get and the most interesting thing is, it's true for his vocals too, I don't know this man but every time I hear his voice I start foaming at the mouth, thank you for introducing me to him kendra!! and my technically third point is that I listened to doechii's recent colors show vid and spent the evening getting zooted on some cheap wine, and I'm close to crying on my kitchen floor (happy and overwhelmed), it's worth it :))) have an amazing day 💚💚
i love your cheap wine drunk anon. im there with you in spirit drinking wine out of a spongebob mug. you're so welcome for the introduction to the leoonaverse nd so true to all of this!!!!!!! im serious if leo didn't become an idol he was just gone be some kiddie soccer coach that had everyone obsessed with him like everybody momma nd daddy acting a fool cuz he just has It!!!!!!!!!!!!
he's on my short list of idols that were destined to be famous somehow (right underneath chuu) nd a double so true for the comments abt his vocal tone like it's 2022 nd i still lose my mind that the quality nd sweetness of songs from 2013 nd the vocals from piano man do make me want to be raptured. UGH! there is talent left in the world.
nd i had no idea doechii had a new colors show let me go watch i love herrrrrrrrrr. tangentially related but we need to bully her to get an official release of anxiety bc she fucking ate that! i can't for her to blow up! oh and you have a great day too luv!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We Are Who We Are
The Need for Transparency in the Mattress Industry's ESG Practices
The soaring significance of environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategies has encouraged mattress industry players to boost their sustainability quotient. Reporting on non-financial information has become pronounced across business verticals. Stakeholders are poised to take a quantum leap to embed ESG considerations into their portfolios. Companies are championing sleep as an invaluable pillar to underpin the work environment and emphasize talent attraction, equity, diversity and inclusion. Amidst increased responsibilities, demanding schedules and feelings of stress, the addition of ESG pillars to help people foster positive social change and improve health and well-being could provide impetus to an equitable and fair world.
There has been a palpable trend to recycle and reuse mattresses to minimize waste from landfills. Amidst climate change creating pressure on the planet, well-established players are expected to emphasize minimizing carbon footprint, sourcing raw materials sustainably and using resources more efficiently. Strategic aspirations and priorities could take center stage to provide sustainable sleep solutions. Companies are likely to seek ESG goals to expand their physical and digital footprint and provide customers with seamless products and services.
Key Companies in this theme
    • Tempur Sealy International, Inc.
    • Serta Simmons Bedding LLC
    • Spring Air International
    • Sleep Number Corp.
    • Kingsdown, Inc.
    • Southerland Sleep
    • Boll & Branch
    • Casper Sleep Inc.
Environmental Perspective
As companies embark on the ambition to be more environmentally friendly and transparent, goals to attain carbon neutrality could receive an uptick with investments in ESG reports. A buoyant environment profile has become paramount to raising the bar for sustainability. In January 2023, Tempur Sealy International revealed its 2023 Corporate Social Values Report noting that it achieved around 3% dip in GHG emissions per unit produced at wholly-owned manufacturing and logistics operations. It kept the sustainable reporting in line with the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) framework. The American manufacturer of mattresses suggested that 100% of waste was diverted from landfills from the U.S. wholly-owned manufacturing operations as of September 2022, up from 96% during the same month in the preceding year. It also bolstered its commitment to achieving zero landfill waste to include its research and development facilities and corporate offices by 2025.
Forward-looking companies are exploring opportunities to decarbonize operations and inject funds into boosting energy efficiency. To illustrate, in 2021, Sleep Country Canada rolled out a pilot project at three locations connecting AI-powered technologies to HVAC and lighting equipment at retail locations and warehouses. The company has also bolstered its efforts to minimize landfill waste under the aegis of recycling programs and mattress donations. It claims to have diverted more than 165,000 mattresses and foundations (in 2021) from landfills through recycling or donation. The Canadian retailer company claims around 91% of its mattresses and foundations have sustainable materials. It has also banked on several of its suppliers that use CertiPUR-US-certified mattress foam. The certified foam is made without flame retardants, ozone depleters, lead, mercury, phthalates, formaldehyde and low VOC emissions. Emphasis on environmentally responsible products will provide impetus to the use of sustainable materials, helping stakeholders use resources efficiently.
Social Perspective
Stakeholders are recognizing the importance of underpinning programs that can bring a paradigm shift in the way corporate philanthropy achieves social performance. Concerted effort on workforce development targeting underemployed groups, and gender discrimination management has provided tailwinds for investors, manufacturers and suppliers. Leading players are poised to observe an inclination for equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging, retaining and recruiting talented people from diverse backgrounds and creating a safe work environment. Social performance has become a vital cog in reinforcing brand value and reputation. For instance, Avocado Green Mattress, in its 2021 Impact Report, alluded to developing a nationwide network (in the U.S.) of over 1,000 nonprofit partners, such as rehabilitation centers, local women’s shelters, centers for people with disabilities and refugee centers. The company donated 90% of returned mattresses to shelters and gave away 2% of annual revenue to environmental nonprofits.
Recognizing performance has become one of the most compelling factors to offer rewards, compensation packages and learning & development training. Key players have included LinkedIn Learning in their toolkits to offer access to thousands of courses to associates. Additionally, equity, diversity and inclusion training has also spurred, creating an aura of strong growth for mattress manufacturers and suppliers. To illustrate, Sleep Country Canada noted that 98% of associates were trained on diversity, harassment and respect in the office, while 24% identified themselves as visible minority leaders. Meanwhile, Tempur Sealy propelled the percentage of U.S. employees who self-identified as a minority to 49%. The prevalence of robust and inclusive culture could place companies vying to propel their ESG portfolios in the driver’s seat.

Governance Perspective
Lately, good governance and strong ethics & compliance have come into the spotlight to ensure risk management, ESG accountability and performance. Embedding a robust culture of sustainability has become pivotal for buoyant governance standards. An emphasis on fostering corporate behavior, board diversity, anti-competitive practices, tax transparency and eradicating corruption could be the precursor of sound and sustainable governance. In April 2021, Serta Simmons Bedding promoted two major leaders and streamlined the organization’s structure. Venture capitalists, manufacturers and other stakeholders are expected to place bullish measures to address major ESG risks, such as cyber security, talent attraction and retention, reputation and shifting consumer behavior.
Integration of ESG priorities into the code of conduct has become prevalent across business verticals. Tracking and reporting of possible code violations and strengthening of cyber security could be pronounced. Companies are updating their information security policy, reporting policy and mitigating the ESG risks. Organizations are prioritizing data management and developing strategies that are in accordance with the law of the land and which can keep up with the demands of shareholders, venture capitalists and other major stakeholders.
The competitive landscape suggests industry players are likely to focus on brand strategies and develop retail partnerships. Industry-leading innovations that can provide customers with increased quality sleep could be the major selling point. To illustrate, in July 2022, Bryte raised USD 20 million under the aegis of Tempur Sealy. With mattresses being trendy, investments and revenue forecasts could be bullish. The global mattress market size is poised to garner significant gain in the ensuing period.

Harley Weir
About the Artist
Harley Weir’s photography has become synonymous with a way-of-seeing that is empathetic and true, approaching bodies, nature and materials with a tenderness that feels transcendent. Across commercial and editorial work, photography and filmmaking, the London-born artist has traced a visual atmosphere that has left an indelible impression, one imbued with a highly-attuned sense of colour and composition. An imagemaker who constantly subverts the expected, Weir has greatly influenced ideas of how a woman’s gaze might be engaged with, reshaped and made new in our current era.
For Weir, the camera is her tool for gaining knowledge, a deeply-felt imagemaking practice that extends into her personal projects. Wherever she travels, the photographer seeks a deep sense of collaboration with her subjects and their environment, an attitude that extends to forming partnerships beyond the frame. With her own varied projects, Weir has sought to increase awareness around plastic waste, the rights of refugees and migrants, marine conservation, and therapeutic support for young people, as well as raise funds for organisations supporting those causes.
To date, Weir has published five books: ‘Homes and Paintings’ with Loose Joints, 2016 and 2017; ‘Function’ with Baron, 2018; ‘Louis Vuitton Fashion Eye Iran’, 2018; and ‘Father’ with IDEA Books, 2019. Elsewhere, her work has also extended beyond the page to be exhibited at institutions like Foam Amsterdam – where her work is now part of the institution’s permanent collection – as well as Hannah Barry Gallery, Fabrica Gallery, 180 the Strand and MEP Gallery. Her latest show, taking place at Hannah Barry gallery in spring 2022, showcased unseen work as well as new, experimental pieces.
Weir’s widely-acclaimed editorial work has appeared in magazines such as Vogue Italia, L’Uomo Vogue, American Vogue, The Face, Re-Edition, Self-Service, W Magazine, Dazed, Pop, Marfa Journal, British Vogue, T Magazine, i-D, AnOther, System and M Le Monde; her brand collaborations across print and film have included Balenciaga, Gucci, Isabel Marant, Marc Jacobs, Blumarine, Ambush, Versace, Proenza Schouler, Salvatore Ferragamo, Courrèges, Missoni, Dior, as well as projects spotlighting her home city’s design talents such as Wales Bonner, Simone Rocha and Charlotte Knowles.
