#FreeganFebruary meal shots! #whatieatinaday changes based on what pops up on the #freegan apps and olio and dumpster dives. Today I ate: 🍌 Banana, almond croissant from @olio.app, with coffee with soya milk that I tried to make from beans ... It was gross. 🍔 Veggie sandwich with cheese and pesto and an orange 🥑 Veggie and lentil "Bolognese" open sandwich with smashed avocado (#dumpsterdiving win) and charred cabbage 🍈 Melon and orange juice for desert! Again it was so easy to make three meals today that were delicious and healthy from fully rescued food. I even have plenty of leftovers! This is your reminder to check your fridge and plan some meals around using up everything in there! I love handing out rescued food! I did a little promo and awareness raising at a university campus near me where I showed up with about 60 pastries that were "best before" the day before and plums and bread that was all destined to be wasted. It took me less than 20 minutes to give it all away! Not only did the food get diverted from being wasted, it also helped to teach a few dozen more people about food waste and some of the cool aps like @olio.app that are helping to tackle this massive problem. Fingers crossed we will have a few new #FoodWasteHeroes signing up to help save more food in the future too. My first @olio.app haul as a #FoodWasteHero is an EPIC amount of pastry! OLIO connects people with each other and with local businesses so surplus food can be shared, not thrown away. This could be food nearing its sell-by date in local stores, spare home-grown vegetables, bread from your baker, or the groceries in your fridge when you go away. OLIO can also be used for non-food household items too. OLIO is super easy! To make an item available, simply open the app, add a photo, description, and when and where the item is available for pick-up. To access items, simply browse the listings available near you, request whatever takes your fancy and arrange a pick-up via private messaging. As a #oliofoodwastehero I collect food from a local shop and list it on Olio so that people can pick it up from me for free!
