turns out I am not immune to dungeon meshi's propaganda
#shout out to my man mithrun#for making it clear through example that not having the natural queues to preform a life function means you have to like. compensate#I'm on the extreme end of the adhd 'no hunger' and I often don't notice I need to eat until I'm literally about to faint#hunger to me is the symptoms of low blood sugar#but mithrun's character arc (and especially the meta AROUND mithrun here on tumblr)#have made me notice for the first time that this is perhaps... something I can and should change#I've started to make myself a schedule#five hours is a normal amount of time between meals right?

Unpopular opinion: but they look normal. You'd probably pass them by in the street and wouldn't bat an eyelash. You'd bump into them at a mall or hand them a pen they dropped. You've probably sat next to them at the movies and haven't even noticed them because they're so painfully average. Attractive sure, but nothing stands out. With the only exception being that if you focus on them long enough, they start looking... off. Not weird or monstrous, but like someone was given the task to make a realistic human being from scratch and they successfully managed it, but the end product looks like they worked too hard in making it appear like a person, rather than being a 100% natural human. Like hyperrealistic silicone statues, with every imperfection being a perfectly calculated touch added to give it more realism, except you can somehow notice that it isn't. One of them smiles at you as you stop to coo at their dog, and the smile they give you is honest, but you can never shake the feeling that it was a practiced one, that they spent years managing to perfect that lopsided turn of their mouth, that their canine tooth was made to look crooked. That they're preforming humanity, that they don't even know they're doing it, that they're entirely unaware of the fact that once you get close the illusion stops.
There's also more things off about them that most people don't notice/tend to brush off quickly. They have very old eyes, for example. Imagine you're standing in line at the supermarket and out of boredom you look around and see someone on the queue next to yours. You're absolutely unsure how old they are: they could be somewhere between 22 or 45 for all you know. They don't exactly have any noticeable marks, crow marks or spots, anything you can notice to signify older age. But despite their clear skin, there's something about them that looks decidedly older. Maybe it's the way they have their mouth set, or how they're standing. You don't really know, and you're about to turn away, having stared for too long. Then they turn and they look at you, straight ahead meet your eyes — and they aren't right. It's not the shape or the length of the eyelashes. Their color is normal, just like your own, maybe even your own, but,, you didn't know colors could wash out like that. You didn't know eyes could be that dark and somehow still look so dull, so lacking in light. Eventually they turn away, but you can see the small twitch of their lips, feel the way they look at you through the corners of their eyes. Like you're part of some secret joke now, privy to something no one else knows and likely were never meant to know.
Hetalia people! Talk to me abt how subtly weird you think the Nation Representatives look.
#hetalia#fun fact: as a result of the eyes thing they tend to avoid direct eye contact and compensate through other body language means#esp when it comes to asserting dominance or inspiring confidence#they imitate postures and gestures to give the sense of equality + ''you can trust me bc we're alike''#they've mastered the art of looking @ you without really looking#other headcanons i adore is them being able to have children BUT said kids aren't always immortal#catch the og empires trying to have their own little nation children and outliving nearly all of them bc YEET your kids are human
