Rules of Fossball

There is a long list of rules to follow when playing tournament level foosball. These rules are very comprehensive and lengthy. However, there are a few rules that every foosball player must know. These rules cover the fundamental aspects of foosball as a game. NO SPINNING The first and foremost rule of the game is – NO SPINNING! Spinning is defined as the rotation of rods more than 360 degree before or after striking the ball. Spinning makes the game shallow and void of any skill. Nonsensical spinning and whamming of the ball in hope of putting the ball in the goal is illegal because it takes away all the fun in the game. The player looking to outscore the opponent with technical ability and tricky shots will be left flustered against such opposition. FLIPPING A COIN Who serves the ball first, is decided by flipping a coin. SERVING Serving is putting the ball through one of the holes in the center to start the ball rolling on the table. The player has the option to serve the ball with spin to alter how the ball acts after entering the table. After every goal, the player scored against gets the serve. NO JARRING Jarring is the act of hitting the rods against the table that causes distraction for the opponent or causes any unforeseen changes to the trajectory of the ball. A player however, may hit the sides in attempt to defend his goal or in an attempt to play the ball. This makes this rule subject to analysis of the referee when he decides whether or not the ball was jarred or the player was distracted. Picking the table up is always a foul. DEAD BALL If the ball stops in a zone where no player can touch it, it is called a dead ball and must be served again by the player who had the last serve. OUT OF PLAY If a ball hits the top railing or flies out of the playing area, it needs to be served again whether or not it reenters the playing area.
