#363: in medieval times, salt was a big thing. in various places around the world, it was used as a currency. the average english person allegedly ate 30-50g of salt daily but if you ate that now you would certainly be ill, probably even die. apparently the average european in the 20th century ate half as much salt as the average european in the 19th century. salt has played an important role in history since it was required for civilisations to store their harvests and meat and stuff from the summer through the winter. but obviously we have fridges now :)
