"Learning from the Earth"

Responding to the times of planetary crisis caused by the effects of extractive, racial and colonial capitalism, the symposium Learning from the Earth aims to bring us closer to our planet to forge modes of learning from the Earth, including these alternative—at times unlearned or forgotten—ways of listening to other earthly beings. Gathering fourteen speakers representing various perspectives, specialisms, and approaches, the symposium addresses issues of sustainability, biodiversity, the human-animal-plant hierarchy, holism, cosmology, and nature(culture). It asks, what should be learned, and unlearned, in order to create a more ecologically just future and how can artistic practice contribute to these processes? The symposium’s speakers will present contributions that are both commentaries and proposals critically examining the present and suggesting alternatives to the current planetary developments.

Hello Everyone. This is theilustrado, aka Franchesca, a Filipino study and personal blogger based in Texas. Today, I want to share something with everyone.

I finished my 1-year clinical pharmacy program in UIC-Davao. 6 years after passing the Pharmacy board exam and just entirely working in Texas, I was given the opportunity to study clinical pharmacy remotely. Which all of you here on tumblr world knows already.

Nandito parin ako sa Texas pero yung classes ko ay Philippine time. I go to school at 7PM-5AM and then pahinga konti then go to work at 9AM to 7PM as a pharmacy technician turned to Pharmacy Operations Manager (Since I got promoted 3 months ago). That is Including commute and prep time.

Let me just share with you the greatest things I learned working Full time & studying Full time at the same:

You are not alone in this battle. I also have classmates from the USA with full-time jobs, are full-time moms, and wives, and no doubt that there are a lot of ways to get yourself motivated and not fall behind. You share your struggles together. For me, One thing I did was to create a studygram (@studywithfranchesca on IG). That was a way for me to remind myself to do good both in school and work and be with people with the same goals

Going back to school made me realize I want to teach pharmacy. But of course, I know I can't. In some way, I feel like there is lacking. Not the passion, but the knowledge itself (or should I say, maybe I feel like I can’t deliver). I have posted a sample of my slides during my clinical pharmacy classes which you can see below. I think there's should be an easy way to discuss pathophysiology/pharmacology through visually pleasing presentations, perfect analogies, partnered with relevant animations, and confidence to deliver. I've never done it before pero na-enjoy ko talaga ito. This was an avenue for me to show my creativity (since I'm a frustrated artist Lol). The only problem is, it takes time to finish this. I guess it worked out in the end. But without having to go back to school most especially being with UIC, I won't be able to discover this passion and interest.

(My favorite subjects to create a presentation: Pathophysiology and also pharmacology). - Made a report on Lipid-lowering drugs (Ft. MOA of bile acid sequestrants) and the 2nd picture is the Patho of DM.

Don't be too hard on yourself and your SUPPORT SYSTEM will play a big role in your life's success. Yung frustration to be excellent in both aspects of my life (work and school) is always there. Pero you can only do so much. Ang daming expectations and sometimes I fall short in life (Which I feel allt the time). BUT, remember, our best isn't always consistent. And that’s OKAY!

I learned that you can create a strong bond despite the difference in time, distance, weather, and personal battles -- even if you met virtually. My classmates are from Davao, South and North Cotabato, Cagayan De Oro, Bukidnon, Albay, Manila to Las Vegas, California, New york, Hawaii, Indiana. Ang saya diba. Pwede na kami mag-tour sa iba't-ibang places. And because of that, we have also made a connection almost around the world. 1-year lang kami nagkasama-sama at nagkakilala pero I felt like you've known each other for so long. Section A, Hulog ng langit, the best.

Salamat UIC-DAVAO! Salamat sa mga professors, salamat sa aking support system (Tito Aboy, Mommy, and Franchette at siyempre kay Conor na sobrang nagtiis at talaga namang nakasuporta). I don't think I can finish this course without them.

I know I'm probably dramatic posting this 1 year lang naman tinapos ko.. But hey! we celebrate big or small victories in life. It's time to be proud of yourself. Online learning isn't easy. This is a special moment for me because I finished school 8,000 miles away from the Philippines, 14 hours time difference, during a pandemic while working in the front lines. This is something you overcome by being mentally, physically, and spiritually strong. Kaya naman, sa lahat din ng estudyanteng nawalan ng wifi, kuryente, self-motivation, or tiwala sa sarili na nakapagtapos ngayong taon while fighting pandemic, Congratulations!

“Media and Government: A Love-Hate Relationship”

In this century, people need both the media and the government to guide and to establish connections, but despite the peoples’ need of these two, the media and the government seems to repel from each other. Both can work together effectively, yet both can’t because of this love-hate relationship. How can we say that the relationship is love-hate? There are quiet few evidences that can answer the question. First, their love relationship can be explained with how both parties gain benefit. The government needed the media to share information, especially during this pandemic, while the media they used could gain more users and viewers. Both benefits the situation. Some people might say this is not love at all, what would you call it then? Both could gain and benefit at the same time by working together, the same way goes for the people in relationship, does it not?

As for their hate relationship, it’s something both parties can trigger. The government hides details of the information they shared which could trigger the media into investigating. During the investigation, the media might spoil characteristics that might tarnish the government’s reputation, creating a reason to hate media. The government makes a move to bring the damaging news down, triggers the media to investigate further and creates a personal reason for the government to shut the media down. With the lack of reason to shutdown and with the refusal of rebooting, the media learns to loathe the government. This is not the only scenario where media would hate government. There is also the scenario where government could be restraining media to tell the truth, and when the media got enough, they would break free. Other reasons exist, but their relationship is very obvious to the public’s eyes.

"Understanding the Relevance of Information Literacy in the Midst of Social Era"

A lot of people are into social media today. We use it not just once but a hundred times everyday and at anytime we want to. Somehow, everything we want and need to know is a click away to the internet and the fact that it is convenient and fast made it really helpful for us. A lot of information are going on at its all kind. As a person, you can also share credible information when the abilities to identify, find, and to evaluate are being used and applied, it could also be of help if the information is well-handled. Information literacy isn’t something you can learn by reading a book, it takes hands-on practice. Somehow Published books are more accepted as reliable sources, but on the other hand, Internet is one of the best places to practice information literacy for where you can access everything easily and fast.

Many of you have been wondering how was Information literacy connected or maybe like related to our social life and somehow in our society. Well in fact, we all get our knowledge, learnings and other new information from the internet, on the other hand this information literacy helps us to identify things, find new data and it evaluates ourselves, it also helps us organize and apply the things we have learned, this develops our life skills to do actions especially in our society. Most importantly information literacy was more effective to the students, helping them make decisions and cultivate their success. Luckily, in todays era, it has been more convenient in accessing the browser as an instrument in doing some research and digging information. For with a student who has great intelligence will surely be a great leader and a better person in the future that everybody could count on.

A Zurich art publishing fair is proving the printed book isn’t dead. The “Volumesexternal link” event is more popular than ever, attracting publishers from the world over.

Switzerland has a long tradition in independent publishing. In the early modern age, many scholars and artists, such as Erasmus von Rotterdam and Albrecht Dürer, would come to Basel to print their works, considered offensive by the Catholic Church. With the Reformation, after the 1520s, protestants, anabaptists and other anti-clerical authors also sought refuge in the Swiss city attracted also by its printing presses. They were eventually followed by anarchists, socialists and revolutionaries from further afield.

Today's independent publishing market has very little to do with politics or religion. Rather, it is a niche increasingly explored by visual artists, with or without renown, as well as for designers who work this medium as an art form in its own right.

“Independent publishing is not just about self-publishing,” remarks Anne-Laure Franchette, who runs Volumes together with Patrizia Mazzei, an arts educator, and the editor Gloria Wismer. “At Volumes we welcome zines and artists’ books, but also small publishers, indie magazines, poetry collectives and performance artists who deal with publishing,” she says.

The fair's international scope is also expanding, but cautiously. Bookstalls are not organised by country, nor are all continents represented. That said, most of Europe is represented, including Turkey and a couple of Japanese publishers. This year the spotlight is on Chile, with Chileans from the book fair Impresionanteexternal link, whose presentation comes under the motto "Sin ninguna vergüenza" (without any shame).

Comment avez-vous rencontré Eric Rohmer?

J'ai rencontré Éric par l'entremise de Marie Rivière, juste après Peceval le Gallois. Un après-midi, dans son bureau des Films du Losange, il m'a reçue et nous avons discuté sans façons autour d'un thé de Chine.

『聖杯伝説』の直後でしたが、マリー・リヴィエールの紹介で、監督と出会いました。ある日の午後、フィルム・ド・ロサンジュの事務所で、私に会ってくれて、中国のお茶の話をとりとめもなくしたんですね。

Je me souviens simplement qu'il m'a demandé d'écrire ma date de naissance sur un cahier d'écolier et m'a fortement déconseillé le métier de comé-cours enne. Moyennant quoi, quinze jours après il m'a rappelée pour me revoir et finalement, l'année suivante [en 1979], il m'engageait sur La Petite Catherine de Heilbronn, une pièce de Kleist qu'il mettait en scène au théâtre des Amandiers, et dans laquelle jouaient Pascale Ogier, Pascal Greggory, Arielle Dombasle, Marie Rivière.J'y tenais trois rôles (un petit garçon, un ange et une servante), et c'est peut-être pour cette raison économique qu il m a retenue...

Comment se passait le travail avec lui, et comment ce travail a-t-il évolué au fil des ans?

J'ai tourné avec Eric dans six films de cinéma, et malgré les différences entre ces euvres, et entre les rôles,je peux dire que méthode libre quoique réglée est toujours restée la même. éric ne dirige pas, il est là. Lorsqu'il donne ses textes, il sait d'avance comment on va les dire, parce qu'il connai t qu'on a beaucoup répété en amont. Il aime quand les acteurs t nos vo lent et veut qu'on comprenne bien le texte, sans malen- articulent tendu regarde.

監督との仕事はどのように行なわれたのですが、またそれは時間と共に変化したのでしょうか？

ロメール監督とは６本撮りました、作品も違いますし、役も違いましたが、監督の自由でありながら、きちんとルールのあるやり方は、いつでも同じでしたね。監督は演技指導はしないんです、そこに居るだけなんですね、台詞を俳優たちに渡す時は、それをどんな風に言って欲しいのか予め知っていました。俳優たちの声を知っていて、かなり以前からリハーサルをやるんです。俳優がきちんと台詞を言って、誤解なしに、曖昧さなしで、台詞をよく理解していると、とても喜んでくれましたね。こちらを信頼もしてくれて、よく見ていてくれるんです。

Pour les mouvements, on est libre en mais non sans ambigüité. Il nous fait confiance et nous répétition, et sur tournage la caméra s'adapte à nous, sauf pour L'Angla Duc où l'on devait tourner devant un fond vert avant incrus- tation dans l'image.

動きに関しては、リハーサル時はとても自由で、撮影時にはカメラがこちらにあわせてくれるんですね、『グレースと公爵』だけは違いましたけど。合成のための背景の前での撮影でしたので。

Pouvez-vous nous parler de vos collaborations hors longs métrages (comme Bois ton café, il va être froid, etc.) ?

Au début des années 80,j'ai commencé à tourner les aven tures de Rosette en super 8. C'était un peu des fictions de vacance faites en toute liberté avec une famille d'amis rencon- trés dans le monde d'Éric (Arielle, Pascale, Pascal, Marie, Béa- trice Romand, Virginie Thévenet, François-Marie Banier...)

Il y en a eu cinq en tout. Eric, qui avait une caméra,s'occupait de l'image et ça lui permettait de s'exercer tout en s'amusant. Parfois il jouait même un petit rôle. Cette légèreté l'a inspiré un peu plus tard., je crois, pour des films comme Quatre Aventures de Reinette et Mirabelle ou Le Rayon Vert. Pour le clip, réalisé en 1986, disons qu'il est peu dans la lignée de mes Rosette. C'est une histoire vive et acidulée, j'en suis l'héroine, et il y a un côté sexy qui plaisait à Eric.

J'ai écrit ensuite deux courts métrages qui ont été produits par la Compagnie Eric Rohmer (Les Amis de Ninon et Une histoire qui se dessine) et Eric, sans y apparaître, a bien aidé pour la réalisation technique et l’ambiance. Ces films lui ressemblent par imprégnation.
