“I don’t understand why we fell apart after being friends forever.”

“What do you mean you don’t fucking understand,” Zoey said, looking up from the newspaper she’d been using to studiously ignore him and finally leveling him with a glare. “What part of any of that did you miss? Because I’m pretty sure it was very fucking clear why things fell apart. Did you know that after that I never even fucking graduated? Not that I could have afforded college anyway but at least then maybe I could have dreamed of going to one instead of working two shitty jobs just to support myself and likely working the same shitty jobs for the whole rest of my goddamn life. And you think that somehow we’re going to go back to being friends? Not fucking likely.”
