Julian Assange has been detained at London's high-security Belmarsh Prison, one of the UK's toughest detention centers, since 2019. The WikiLeaks founder has long since completed his original 50-week sentence for skipping bail in 2012. But he has remained in custody ever since, in extremely harsh conditions, in what is essentially detention pending deportation. If the judges deny her husband the chance to launch another round of appeals, Assange's wife and lawyer, Stella, fears the worst. "Julian's life depends on him winning this," she said, in an interview with DW.
Over 200 gathered outside the US Department of Justice in Washington D.C. to rally and hear speeches from a number of speakers. Among the speakers were Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges, Consortium News editor Joe Lauria, and Central Intelligence Agency whistleblower John Kiriakou.
In 2007, Kiriakou disclosed the CIA’s role in government torture programs operating out of various “black sites,” at secret locations throughout the world.
Imprisoned publisher Julian Assange will face two High Court judges over two days in February, 2024 in what will likely be his last appeal against being extradited to the United States to face charges of violating the Espionage Act.

Julian Assange makes final appeal against extradition to US | DW News
After more than a decade of fighting authorities in the British courts, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange is now facing what could be his last chance to stop his extradition to the US. A crowd of Assange supporters has gathered outside London's high court calling for him to be released. His lawyers will ask judges there today to grant a new appeal hearing. If that fails, Assange's backers worry he could be put on a plane to the US straight away, where prosecutors want to put him on trial on spying charges. But Assange's wife says he would not survive being extradited.

"The CIA planned to kidnap & kill an award-winning Australian journalist in London. It has the power to place Julian Assange under prison conditions that would cause his suicide. When the news broke, I thought—finally—this has got to end the case"—
The U.S. vendetta on Julian Assange reads like a James Bond movie with Mike Pompeo.
UPDATE: Lord Justice Holroyde will allow U.S. authorities to extradite Assange to face 18 charges in the U.S for publishing documents the government did not want anyone to know about. In exchange, the United States promises not to use solitary confinement and other common methods of torture that the United States is known for.

“Julian Assange’s case boils down to the fact that Assange exposed war crimes in Iraq. If America gets away with plucking him out of the UK to die in prison, then all our freedoms are compromised."—Former Foreign Minister of Australia
