alan shakes his head. "you ever tried a mr. pibb?" it's a joke, of course—they had been discontinued almost two years ago now—but there are few other choices available to them. "i don't know, this isn't how i remember. last time i was here, they weren't leaning so hard into their... branding. actually, i don't remember them having very much branding at all..."

Meyers places a hand over his wounded heart. “That’s outrageous. How am I supposed to eat a–” he references the menu again– “Brisket-back Mountain without a Dr. Pepper to wash it down?” He tries for a disappointed expression, but he can’t help giggling at the ridiculous name.

"don't get too far—" but even before adrian can finish his sentence, lana has him pressed up against the wall with a hand on his chest and lips just shy of his ear. she really knows how to take opportunities as they present themselves. too good, he would say. "—ahead of yourself. you've still got to find some evidence first. then you can make your, um... demands."

The devil would always have its due, and Adrian seemed like the perfect human to satiate the devil within her. She moved closer to him, too close for comfort, only an inch separating her mouth from his ear, and placed a palm on his chest, ❝ I know something you can do, Adrian... Someone! ❞ Forget about the prerequisites and what-not. She was already too focused on the vicious, violent, and absolutely physical future between them. She was too focused on satiating her curiosity. Among other things. ❝ In fact, we can do it right here, right now. ❞

derek returns with good news—theyr'e not going to spend the night out in the desert. it wouldn't be the first time that adrian has done it, but it's always something to pray against. being out in the sun is bad enough, but when the sun goes down... that's when all the real dangers comes out. "good to hear it," he calls back, rolling his eyes. "but careful, or i might make you be the signal. i bet we could get a metal ass out of you yet. a real one!"

Derek snorts and puts on his ash mask, shaking his head. He salutes, mockingly once more as he succeeds in putting himself at ease, a rare feat as he withstands the elements alongside a friend. As he walks off, the sight that greets him is at least, a good sign. The squall of dust and sand drawing back like the shores of burning water reaching low tide, retreating for a moment before coming back. When? In an hour, maybe. Two at most. Enough for a splinter of hope. "We got our opening, Walker," he calls back out, waving at the man in the cave. "Get your metal ass out here, I need to put up a signal for the convoy to get us! Sir!"
