FEATURE: The Genius Mind of Quentin Tarantino

Let’s talk about how Quentin Tarantino changed Modern day cinema and how he get his inspirations from old classics and/or cult films.

It is hard to deny that Quentin Tarantino has already embedded his name in the history of film making in Hollywood, and his artistry made him one of the best and well-known directors in the world. He has in total of nine directorial films, or in better term his nine masterpieces. If you have been following Tarantino for a while, he mentioned that he will only create and direct ten films in his whole career. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel during the release of his 8th film- D’Jango: Unchained, he was asked by the host if he will still continue his promise of just creating ten films and he replied by saying that it was just an “idea”. He wants to create a pressure to himself so he can ensure that all the films that he will be releasing are good and meaningful rather than putting up a a lot of films that most of the directors right now are doing (You can watch the interview on the link attached below).

Now let us talk about the structure of his movies. If you have watched one of his films ( not to brag but I have watched all of them ;) ), you will notice that it has a non-linear structure but it is usually divided in to ‘Chapters’ like for example in “Pulp Fiction”, and on his latest film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood”. This device is called the Verfrumdung, it is used to give distance or the feeling of “Alienation” to the viewers to keep them on their toes, and constantly remind the them that they need to focus on the film so they will not miss any important details in the story. Also, in one of his interview, he told Charlie Rose that he has this thing with movies that he wants to watch it like he is reading a book (Link of the interview is attached below).
