ARTIST OF THE WEEK @merryfinches ♥️

This week's aotw is Kylie who has bewitched us body and soul with her lovely art and even lovelier personality. Always there with a kind word, just all round a stellar human being, and someone who makes my day better anytime I see her on the dash. She was also game for answering a few questions:

Which do you use to draw (app/digital or traditional)?

I use Procreate on my iPad! I like being able to put it on my bag and draw anywhere - I don’t have as much time to draw as I want, so I do it in bits and pieces whenever I get the chance.

I love sketching with coloured pencils in my sketchbook too, I LOVE digital art, but there’s nothing like the texture of pencil and paper!

Fave brushes/pencils/mediums (links/screenshot?)

These are the ones I use most. The top 3 are all standard Procreate brushes. Chalk is my go-to for sketching and line art, and lightbrush and lightpen for highlights. I used Gingerbread Inker for colouring - it’s a free brush I picked up from somewhere, but I can’t find where!

Your favourite piece you've drawn?

Oooooooh, I don’t know! It’s easy to look back at basically every drawing and see the flaws, but this one of Ed and Stede in their inn is special to me, because I think it’s the first time I felt like I’d developed a comfortable style after messing around trying to draw them for months with… varying degrees of success.

And I’m really proud of the comic I drew of Ed having a nightmare, because i find comics so hard to draw and I’m in awe of everyone who does it!

Who's harder to draw: Ed or Stede?

Aaaaah, they both have challenges, but Stede I think? I prefer drawing his left side because of the way his hair swishes differently on both sides, and that side is easier. And he has a very particularly-shaped nose that can be really hard sometimes! Unless I’m drawing Ed’s leathers, in which case it’s him 😆

One essential tip for beginner artists?

There will be a point where you look at all your art so far and think “oh these are terrible, what am I even doing?” But that’s GOOD because it means you’re improving! And I’m sorry but that never stops - you will be improving forever! Nobody I know is ever really satisfied with their own art, and your art style is like your handwriting - it’s unique to you.

Also, get a sketchbook and a pencil, make mistakes, practice drawing your own hands and feet, screenshots, your cat, anything basically. And remember it’s supposed to be fun 🥰

No seriously, I guess I like drawing Ed and Stede so much because they’re everything. Love, sex, tenderness, fun, cuteness, heartache and joy. Two souls who are so insecure and alone, and then they have someone who GETS them, who loves everything about them. They’re just wonderful.

HELP!!!! last challenge one of the contestants in the show I'm in just straight up ran away before the challenge was over and we cant find him. I feel pretty bad because he was really mad at me and maybe that's why he ran away? I don't know but can somebody please offer guidance I'm kind of worried about him we haven't seen him since August 12th 2022 and I don't think anyone else is even trying to find him!

No unfortunately, it's about to be two challenges since he disappeared! I don't know why nobody's looking for him not even the host is! I want to but I think he's still mad at me so I'm a bit nervous. Well hopefully he turns up tomorrow because there's another challenge? I don't know. I really want this to be over. Thank you for your concerns though.

almost 1 month since I grabbed a random small creature from somewhere along my journeys and placed it in the cabin chainsaw was in for paper puppets and it scared him so bad he yelled on here about it and everyone clowned him so hard he deactivated🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 (dw I got the creature out out it is unharmed I have it with me right now)

Eh it was more of an objblr thing than a Goiky thing but basically Teardrop opened a burger stand near the inanimate insanity 2 filming grounds to compete with Gelatin's Steakhouse and she accidentally or on purpose poisoned a bunch of people with how dirty everything was. or so they say. it basically a huge inside joke lmao Teardrop Burger never existed but it's cleanliness was about the same as Gelatin's Steakhouse heh gelatin was pissed for weeeeeeeks after

i was checking back on the other enstars polls and saw you on the lightbrush one— actually wataei sweeped succesfully against pearlxbismuth but a ton of discourse happened in round two.

being someone who was campaigning that poll non stop, apparently they brought the drama over from twt which made both sides very heated but especially the other fandom.

personally speaking a lot of the propaganda at the start was how the other side kept saying "anime men sucks" so I refuted that when it happened, and I did acknowledge the other propaganda (although some were still using the same argument)

though yeah it was bad, i do think it was the other side's responsibility to help other people learn more about their fandom instead of saying that it was inconsiderate that we didn't know much about it alongside the propaganda for their ship.

Really sorry for the ramble here, i just have a lot of thoughts about incidents like this.

i agree with everything you just said, and i was planning to wax poetic about this, but 1) enstars grind 2) a sudden wave of drowsiness, so ill just ramble.

this poll is an outlet for fans of any of the works involved to talk endlessly about not just the ship, but the narrative, the work itself. after all, when a ship is "basically canon," its got its fucking claws deep into the themes of the story.

i think thats what we (and probably other fandoms too) have done pretty well! compiled screenshots of dialogue and imagery and all that as evidence! the passion shows, and you know the propaganda worked when one of my mutuals (who has never touched enstars btw) submitted an ask to me wondering how to get into the series' story!!! the propaganda fucking worked! my screams of agony in the reblogs fucking worked!!!

this made me appreciate the community here even more, because we were respectful, we were so fucking happy to talk about a work we enjoy so fucking much! and now im interested in the other works too! like wtf do the motherfuckers over at night the museum have going on? i dont watch any movies, but im interested in giving this series a try.

THIS is how you engage with other fandoms if you have to. it is simply just a killjoy to convert your passion into vitriol/hate for the other party. if anything, itd push people away from what you love because you left a bad impression on them! that is just not the right way to go about things!! be constructive, not destructive!

and i love how people say anime men suck, but theres literally the orv ship, soriku, narumitsu, and others that i dont remember off the top of my head. its their opinions at the end of the day, but if they draw the line at wataei, they should do the same to those other "anime men" ships too. and here i thought cringe was dead in this site.

overall, let us as a fandom be the better people here. practice some sportsmanship, spread the enstars love, and have fun!

(and we've already done that in the jedtavius and narumitsu rounds, even though we've lost! im so proud of you all. <3)

lightbrush? (for the domesticity thing)

big spoon/little spoon: Despite being shorter, Lightbulb is almost always the big spoon. 

favorite non-sexual activity: They love playing with Baxter. 

who uses all the hot water: Lightbulb. She runs the hot water in the bath and pretends to be a crab. She says it’s to experience the world Baxter experiences, in order to be a better crab-carer. Paintbrush would find this more endearing if they didn’t have to take absolutely frigid showers afterwards. 

most trivial thing they fight over: Whether cookie pizzas can suffice as dinner. And the edibility of oatmeal raisin cookies. 

who does most of the cleaning: Paintbrush

what has a season pass on their dvr/who controls the netflix queue: They switch it up. Paintbrush finds a lot of Lightbulb’s shows amusing, while Lightbulb loves watching Paintbrush when the watch Bob Ross. They just look so peaceful and cute and she loves them so much and oh gosh how did she get so lucky.

who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working: Lightbulb. Paintbrush is usually too busy yelling at the “god-fucking-damn piece of shit” that broke.

who steals the blankets: Lightbulb.

who leaves their stuff around: Lightbulb

who remembers to buy the milk: Paintbrush

who remembers anniversaries: Paintbrush always remembers conventionally big anniversaries. Lightbulb tends to forget about those, instead opting to remember the anniversary of the time that Painty had to lift her up to get the pancake off the ceiling, or the time that Painty’s hair caught on fire, not because they were angry, but because Lightbulb had made them so flustered that their hair just couldn’t take it. 

Who cooks normally? Paintbrush. Lightbulb’s odd eating habits are far too odd to let her cook regularly. Also, when she does prepare something that’s considered food, it’s always a sweet dessert kind of thing. This is wonderful for an occasional treat, but not to make up every meal every day. 

How often do they fight? Surprisingly, not that often. Paintbrush is taking anger management courses and Lightbulb has become more aware of the lines that she shouldn’t cross. 

What do they do when they’re away from each other? Baxter is normally with Paintbrush, so they’ll idly pet him, thinking about her. Lightbulb secretly bought a paintbrush from the dollar store, and she’ll idly pet the bristles, wishing Paintbrush were with her. 

Nicknames for each other? Lightbulb has hundreds of nicknames for Paintbrush. Painty, painterooni, pb, pb&j, bristleface, comrade, cutie, foolish mortal, walnut, big ‘ol brush, my tall and wonderful lover, etc. Paintbrush calls her “dear” or “dearest” and Lightbulb absolutely loves it. 

Who is more likely to pay for dinner? Paintbrush would start to pay, then Lightbulb would slap a ton of money down, far more money than she would make from her job. Where on earth is she getting this money, Paintbrush would wonder, except Lightbulb is now trying to eat the candle from the other couple’s table and jesus fucking christ are you trying to get us banned from every single restaurant in the neighborhood put that candle down, yes, put it down now, I am so sorry, please let us cover your bill, why must you always do this, Lightbulb. 

Who steals the covers at night? See above. 

What would they get each other for gifts? Paintbrush paints for her, as well as gets goofy little trinkets they think she’ll like. Lightbulb surprises them by getting really surprisingly heartfelt gifts. 

Who kissed who first? The first time they saw each other after Paintbrush’s elimination Lightbulb tackled Paintbrush to the ground. They were about to yell at her, but before they could, Lightbulb pressed her mouth to theirs, surprisingly gently. “I missed you.” she said. Paintbrush could not speak at all. 

Who made the first move? Lightbulb

Who remembers things? Suprisingly, Lightbulb. Paintbrush gets distracted with all sorts of different important adult things, but Lightbulb remembers the singular Extremely Important Thing that they needed to do. 

Who started the relationship? It’s not very clear. Two weeks after the kiss, Paintbrush shyly asked if Lightbulb would like to be in an official relationship with them. Lightbulb was confused and thought they had been dating for a while at that point. 

Who cusses more? Also unclear. Paintbrush cusses a lot when angry, but is doesn’t usually cuss in regular day-to-day activities. Lightbulb cusses more casually in a more goofy way. 

What would they do if the other was hurt? Lightbulb would call Test Tube and hold them and tell them that everything is going to be all right. Paintbrush would completely break down and cry.
