Fremtiden for Svendborg Sygehus ligger klar
Fremtiden for Svendborg Sygehus ligger klar

Lars Swane (Oct. 19, 1913 - 2002) was a Danish artist who specialized in color lithographs of flowers and objects in a window with a pleasant landscape backdrop. His parents, Sigurd and Christine Swane, were both artists, and part of the Fynboerne group.

Knud Kyhn (March 17, 1880 - 1969) was a Danish animal and landscape painter and porcelain/ceramics sculptor, who created many animal figurines for the three major, Danish porcelain factories: Royal Copenhagen, Bing & Grøndahl, and Kähler.
He trained at the Royal Academy and Zahrtmann's school, and traveled widely to observe animals and birds, esp. in Northern Europe. His style of painting aligns with that of Fynboerne, esp. Johannes Larsen.

Niels Hansen (June 22, 1880 - 1946) was a Danish marine, landscape and portrait painter, regarded as one of the four great Fynbomalere. He studied briefly at Zahrtmann's school and spent some time in Paris where he picked up some influence from the Impressionists, and other than that he was self-taught.
Hansen was a co-founder of Grønningen and frequently showed at Charlottenborg. He settled on the small island of Thurø, south of Funen, and lived there for 25 years, not least because he could indulge his passion for yachting there.

Christine Swane (May 29, 1876 - 1960) was a Danish artist, whose brother was Johannes Larsen and who was married to Sigurd Swane, both prominent members of Fynbomalerne.
However Christine wanted more than becoming just another regional landscape painter, and she developed her own brand of post-Cubist still life painting, almost always held in green, blue and yellow colors.
She chose Grønningen as her artists' association, and worked across media with ceramics, textiles and paint, creating many decorative works as well as canvas art.

Peter Hansen (May 13, 1868 - 1928) was a Danish painter, considered one of the three original members of Fynboerne, a group of primarily landscape painters, who were the core students at Zahrtmann's alternative Academy, Kunstnernes Frie Studieskole in the late 1880s.
Hansen was a native of Faaborg on Funen, and kept his house there which served as a summer base for him and his painter friends, Fritz Syberg (who married his sister) and Johannes Larsen. During winters Hansen and his family lived in Copenhagen. and he painted urban social realist sceneries. He also mastered portrait and genre painting.

Alfred Simonsen (Dec. 16, 1906 - 1935) was a Danish landscape painter, who died very young from phlebitis, leaving only about 35 canvases behind. Simonsen studied at the Royal Academy, and was a co-founder of the artists’ group Corner. His work is similar to his contemporaries in the groups Fynboerne and the Odsherred painters.

Karl Schou (March 9, 1870 - 1938) was a Danish landscape painter, trained at Zahrtmann’s school. He usually painted in small formats with a restrained palette, but occasionally he did epic murals, for instance for Rigshospitalet in Copenhagen. His motto was “To paint is to be quiet.”
He is represented well in Danish museums, and also in the Norwegian National Gallery. The painting here is privately owned, though.

Ernst Syberg (Jan. 12, 1906 - 1981) was a Danish landscape painter in the Funen and Odsherred tradition. His father Fritz Syberg was a Zahrtmann disciple, but Ernst was autodidact as a painter, having studied law before changing careers.
He showed at Kunstnernes Efterårsudstilling from 1933, and became a member of Corner in 1934.

Elisabeth Neckelmann (Nov. 6, 1884 - 1956) was a Danish autodidact painter (she did receive some home training from her stepfather, Peter Hansen, and drawing classes from Fritz Syberg). She was associated with the Funen painters, like Hansen, and did many flower and landscape paintings up in Odsherred. She was also an accomplished portrait painter, and her portrait of Queen Alexandrine (1943) still hangs at Kvinderegensen in Copenhagen.
Neckelmann was a lesbian and active in improving conditions and financing for women artists. She chaired the Society for Women Artists for 30 years.
