Mahalakshmi Dhobi Ghat, a gigantic laundry service.

Created in 1890, Mahalakshmi Dhobi Ghat is a giant open air laundry place in Mumbai, India. The washers, known as dhobis, work in the open to clean clothes and linens from Mumbai's hotels, hospitals, neighbourhood laundries, garment dealers, wedding decorators and caterers.

For 18 to 20 hours each day, over 7000 people (around 200 families) flog, scrub, dye and bleach clothes on concrete wash pens, dry them on ropes, neatly press them and transport the garments to different parts of the city. Over one lakh (100,000) clothes are washed each day. Some of the wealthier dhobis have given up on manual cleaning and have now installed large mechanical washing and drying machines.

Sunrise on Tuan Giao (Lever de soleil sur Tuần Giáo) J'ai reçu des centaines de plaintes, protestations et autres vitupérations, c'est vrai, cette année, le 31 janvier à 23h47 il ne s'est rien passé, vous n'avez rien reçu, je n'ai pas envoyé mes voeux photographiques. Je sais que pour beaucoup d'entre vous, c'est quasiment vital et que cette absence vous donne le sentiment que l'année n'a pas vraiment commencée. Ce dramatique incident est essentiellement lié à un problème technique de distribution que je dois encore résoudre. Mais pas d'inquiétude, je mijote quelques mauvais coups, vous recevrez certainement bientôt une newsletter pour annoncer le printemps. Mon année 2022 n’était pas exceptionnelle mais j’avais quand même deux ou trois petits trucs à raconter.
