Mirza Anees Ahmed Baig, 20 University: Murdoch University Dubai Major: First major is Public Relations and the second is in Screen Production - both under Mass Communication I chose Mass Communication majors because Public Relations has a high scope in the industry right now and offers opportunities in many other countries. My passion lies in screen production and I am adding Public Relations as a back up. Screen Production is something that I am really looking forward to getting myself into and Insh'Allah, I hope to become a director one day. Reem Atif Mohammed, 23 University: Murdoch University Dubai Major: Double major in Journalism and Screen Production The reason I chose Journalism as my major is because I believe it allows me to deliver stories and news to people in the way that is fun and creative at the same time. I thought of complementing it with Screen Production as our university allows us to take double majors. It has taught me to be more creative and come up with content. It has also taught me the basics of editing and shooting. Anamul Quader Choudhury, 22 University: Heriot-Watt University Major: Bachelor of Science in Computer Systems When it comes to technology, my enthusiasm and passion for the subject show highly. I love reading, exploring and making myself acquainted with latest technology such as smartphones, laptops and gaming consoles. This is one of the prime reasons why I chose Computer Systems to be my major. It not only introduced me to a broader aspect of technology, but also allowed me to have an in-depth perspective of various fields in Computer Systems, including software applications. Now that I have graduated and obtained my bachelor's degree, I would like to pursue further in this field. Abigail D'souza, 22 University: Heriot-Watt University Major: Bachelor of Fashion Marketing When I was younger, I was a bit of a tomboy who was not very interested in clothes or fashion in general. However, as I grew older, it started to fascinate me to the point where I wondered how the fashion industry operated. I wanted to know how organisations purchased and sold clothing, and how the process could be optimised. At Heriot-Watt University, I came across the opportunity to learn how fashion marketing could be applied to a real world setting. It gave me the opportunity to create customised marketing campaigns for brands throughout the fashion industry, something that completely changed the way I viewed fashion brands. Emaan Zaidi, 22 University: Heriot-Watt University Major: Bachelor of Computer Science I chose Bachelor of Computer Science because my favourite subjects were business and IT in school. Among the topics, we had web development, which was a really exciting thing for me, and I always scored well in the subject. As I love learning new things, it made me feel that this is what I would want to do once I complete my A levels. It is an intriguing subject; everything now is controlled by technology, which is why I felt this would be a good field to develop into a career. Technology is always evolving. There is much room to grow and learn in computer science, as well as do something great and get a good pay. Saif Ahsan, 24 University: Heriot-Watt University Major: Bachelor in Computer Science I have always been obsessed with technology and information technology in particular. Computers have always fascinated me and the idea of making websites and webpages appealed to me, which is why I chose to do my major in computer science. After some research to find the fastest growing jobs in the market in the foreseeable future, I have found that software and IT-related jobs are in most lists. Furthermore, any profession that combines my interest in information technology along with a good set of incentives and benefits is of utmost interest to me. Charliemagne Cabrera Avelino, 25 University: American University of Sharjah Major: Electrical Engineering As a kid, I enjoyed taking my toys apart to learn about their inner mechanisms, than actually playing with them. I wanted to know how electronics worked, with magnets and lights manually connected to batteries bringing the greatest sense of joy to my younger self. My father is an electrical engineer and I wanted to follow in his footsteps, as he is a great mentor to me. This helped me turn my passion into a profession, and I opted to study electrical engineering at the American University of Sharjah, one of the most prestigious universities in the UAE. Sajith Pinto, 23 University: American University of Sharjah Major: Electrical Engineering I wanted to do electrical engineering because I feel it has a lot of scope in today's world. The world is moving to an intricate electronic era and there is a never-ending need for electrical engineers. I was also encouraged by my family and friends to study electrical engineering despite the fact that we have two doctors in the family. Personally I feel that electrical engineering will always be my number one choice over any other form of engineering. I enjoy working with circuits and making my own circuits from scratch. It really built upon the fundamentals we learned in high school. Shahd Takrouri, 20 University: Murdoch University Dubai Major: Screen Production I opted for Screen Production because I am interested in filming and editing as well as acting. I have acted in many of my friends' movies. I'd wanted to study interior design at first, but when I found out that my university did not have the course, I chose something with a lot of creativity, which is Screen Production. I am really enjoying and liking what I have learned so far. Jason John, 24 University: Queen Mary University of London Major: Master's in Material Science I am fascinated with the different types of materials that are used in daily life. I hope to study the basic nature of things around us so that I can understand it better and improve them. I was so dedicated in my quest for this knowledge that I was willing to travel anywhere in the world to satisfy my curiosity. After studying Material Science I am still amazed that a single material can be manufactured and made to satisfy a number of applications. © Khaleej Times via Edarabia.com
