no pocket dimensions
I haven't had any time to work on Before The Strike or Syndical Crossing because of work, but I have been thinking about it non-stop.
ACNH is a strange beast, in that it is a single-player game flirting with multiplayer mechanics. its inventory system is especially telling in this regard. it speaks to the insulating experience of playing the game.
ACNH players are compelled to expand their personal inventory capacity and home storage to facilitate easier gameplay, since there is no such thing as collaborative or cooperative building. everything the player crafts, they do alone by themself, so they must have available to them most of the necessary tools/materials required to do the job. additionally, acquisition of objects is primary to the core gameplay, so players must have a nearly endless capacity to store their unused furniture, tools, and tchotchkes.
I want Syndical Crossing to more accurately reflect the reality of construction, crafting, cooking, making and storing. the player's pockets and home storage in ACNH essentially act as pocket dimensions where things of any shape and size can conveniently sit, waiting for when they can be useful. This includes living creatures like fish and bugs.
materials and objects in Syndical Crossing will all take up the space they take up, always. storage will need to be constructed and allocated by players and will take up actual space in the game world. there will be no convenient bag of holding where awkward planks and boards and bricks and blocks can be neatly kept out of sight.
altering our world has material consequences. warehouses exist for a reason, as do silos, lockers, sheds and basements. things exist and take up space and that is something I am excited to see players deal with in Syndical Crossing.

If writeblr is a community for writers, what is the game dev tumblr community called? Devblr? Surely it wouldn't be gameblr, would it? Where are my fellow game devs so I can follow you and be inspired by your process?
