Being champion led to many rewards, all of which Gannicus was more than happy to exploit. But perhaps the greatest reward was the coin to afford the silence of the night guards. And as he stood from his bed when the door to his cell was opened and a young woman slipped through, he wondered if he should thank the gods for allowing him the strength to continue being victorious in the arena. Though he might as well drop to his knees and thank the woman before him because if there ever was a goddess that walked the earth, she was it.

Demi was one of the house slaves that Lucretia kept in her company almost constantly. She was second only to Melitta in rank among the house slaves and second to none in beauty. Her father had been a legendary gladiator for the house of Batiatus and her mother the body slave of their current Dominus's mother. Her father's dark Egyptian skin had mixed with her mother's fair to create a permanent sun-kissed appearance in their daughter. Bright blue eyes shone through dark lashes, occasionally getting lost behind her long, blonde hair before she'd toss it into a knot on top of her head. "I'm so glad to see you in one piece," she breathed out, crossing his cell to wrap her arms around his neck. "I prayed to every god I could think of to keep you safe."

"If the gods were just they would see us out of these walls and properly wed," Gannicus answered before crashing his lips onto hers.

During his fight in the streets of Capua, the only thought going through his mind was to return to his love. She'd been one of the first faces he'd gazed upon when he was brought to the ludus, freshly purchased in Neapolis. He remembers stepping onto the sand of the training yard and looking up to the balcony, only to be taken aback at the sight of this gorgeous creature watching him. Never one to shy away from a woman, he'd sent her a dazzling smile and wink. He was absolutely elated when she blushed and smiled shyly back at him.

"They said you fought blindfolded," Demi said as she pulled her tempting lips away from his, fear filling her eyes. He hugged her close, his strong arms enveloping her completely.

"It doesn't matter now. I'm always going to come back to you," he whispered in her ear.

"Let's take these off, shall we?" she asked after regaining herself, sending him a devilish smile as her hands tugged at his pants.

"Oh, I love when you take control," he groaned, and together they shed themselves of the offensive clothing that dared keep their bodies separated.
