Love that in New Vegas you can like personally and permanently fuck over your human companions:

You can destroy the Brotherhood of Steel which Veronica still considers her family despite their differences. On top of that you can kill Elijah and Christine, the latter not being necessary or beneficial to you at all.

You can set up Cass and take her to the Silver Rush to be killed by Jean-Baptiste. Which is extra cruel cause you can literally only do it by first getting her to sell out to the people who tried to kill her in the first place.

You can put more innocent blood on Boone’s hands and fuck with his head more by having him kill his former best friend who is the last person he is implied to have any sort of relationship with outside the Courier.

You can literally sell Arcade into slavery to the Legion in where his hatred for every single one of them is so strong he literally disembowels himself as a final fuck you and so he doesn’t have to spend one more second there.

Not to mention how you can just ignore ED-E, Lily, Rex and Raul’s issues leading them to live their relatively immortal lives full of hardships, unhappiness or inevitable slow deaths. Like it’s not cool but it’s really cool that the game lets you be really awful along with really good.

Arcades Latin quirk is so funny to me.

Like some characters being fluent in Latin and adding Latin to daily life talk for no big reason is cool and sexy concept no problems with that.

But considering the same character lives in a world where there is a huge slaver army who happens to be Roman LARPers and use Latin for everything and terrorising the area for 30ish years and there is also an upcoming war with them it becomes hilarious.

Like wtf are you doing babe average wastelander does not even know what America is anymore and he starts quoting some random Roman soldier on Latin or something out of nowhere.

And then he makes so much stress people discovering he has enclave origins like objectively chances of someone shooting him because they think he is legionary is very much higher than someone finding out where he was born.

So much stress to keep his name clean but zero effort to do it smh smh.

James being both a repairman/robotics expert and a medic is funny to me because he's 100% more gentle with fixing machines than he probably is with people. And it probably also makes Arcade jealous as hell and fuels his disdain towards robots when he sees James being so sweet about repairing them

So I'm playing new vegas for the first time (technically second) but I'm in freeside doing the door guard for the van graffs and I turn to look at simon...only to see Arcade making direct eye contact with Simon staring him down.

Thinks about Arcade being stoic and sarcastic and socially awkward as a shield to outsiders, especially potential love interests, not because of how few other gay men there are in the Mojave but how many there are. Thinks about him approaching every interaction with practiced caution because one wrong implication could end with himself and the Remnants on the run again. Thinks about him instinctively pushing away feelings for someone out of fear and needing time to admit to himself he's actually falling, and more still to act on it

Thinks about someone kind and sweet with his best interests at heart and enough intellect and emotional experience to recognize he's not being mean, he's shielding, he needs comfort and love on his terms, not theirs.

Thinks about someone well-versed in people skills reading his vulnerabilities and using them to lure him into a toxic relationship---or worse.

worst arcade headcanons (not mine!!):

he is not a doctor (he is literally a doctor he literally tells you this several times directly and indirectly and he literally goes back to practising medicine in one of his endings)

he is sooo sweet and nice just a little baby (he has been forbidden from dealing with patients in the Old Mormon Fort due to his fuck awful bedside banner; probably not unrelated, his cute icebreaker joke is making fun of ‘junkies’)

BUT ALSO he is sooo mean and harsh and unfeeling (he doesn’t like to say ‘stupid’/etc. in front of someone with a learning disability; he’s sympathetic to you wanting revenge on benny though he finds it distasteful to say the least; he will hear you out in pretty much any circumstance, including if you say you have a ~reason~ for murdering his colleague, albeit angrily)

he would fight boone in the l38 (they are two ncr citizens who are critical of the mojave campaign or at least in boone’s case how exactly the sausage is made; arcade literally expresses sympathy towards the perpetrators of the bitter springs massacre)

BUT ALSO he is as anti-legion as boone (it’s true arcade is the only other companion with a firm stance against them, but he won’t attack them unless they attack you, he won’t take a perfect chance to kill caesar, and he flat out tells you he’s ‘sure caesar meant well’)
