GODDESS JAGATDHATRI Durga who destroys the Ego of everyone -

She is worshipped in the month of Agrahyan in the days of Saptami, Astami, Navami and Dashami in Shukla Paksh. In some places she is only worshipped in a grand manner on Shukla Navami in the month of Agrahyan.

Her worship is very popular in many parts of West Bengal.According to some legends, it is believed that after the defeat of Mahishasura, the other deities started to think that no one is more powerful than them. Dressed in red, Maa Jagadhatri appeared as a four-armed Goddess, holding a conch, bow, chakra and arrow in her hands and challenged the deities to lift a blade of grass. Unable to lift it, the deities realized the power and might of the Goddess and apologized for cultivating ego. In the idol of Maa Jagadhatri, lion thrashing the elephant signifies the ego of deities crushed by her.
