Michele has served as a missionary in Malta for seven years, and has been a pastor for over twenty years. 𝐆𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐬 The great "prince of preachers" Charles Haddon Spurgeon used to tell the story of a duke who boarded a galley ship and went below to talk with the criminals manning the oars. He asked several of them what their offenses were. Almost every man claimed he was innocent, blaming someone else or accusing the judge of taking a bribe. One young fellow, however, replied, "Sir, I deserve to be here. I stole some money. No one is at fault but me. I'm guilty." Upon hearing this, the duke shouted, "You scoundrel, you! What are you doing here with all these honest men? Get out of their company at once!" The duke ordered that this prisoner be released. He was set free, while the rest were left to tug at the oars. The key to this prisoner's freedom was his admission of guilt. That's also true in salvation. Until a person is willing to admit, "I am a sinner in need of salvation," he cannot experience freedom from guilt and condemnation. Have you ever said, "I plead guilty"? If not, do so right now. You can never save yourself, so receive the Lord Jesus as your Saviour by placing your trust in Him. Then, once you are set free from sin's guilt and power, you will know the joy of forgiveness and freedom. Sin brings fear; confession brings freedom. Luke 18:9-14 The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people - robbers, evildoers, adulterers - or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get. "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner. "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. Today our GCS Liberia team organised a successful evangelism training day for a church community in Paynesville, which is a suburb east of Monrovia, Liberia, West Africa. Deeply honoured to lead the final day of lectures for the Bible College students at IDT (Intensive Discipleship Training) in Jacksonville, Florida. We were so encouraged by the genuine hunger for effective Gospel ministry. Please pray that every student will now put into practice all they have learnt this week, and for more lost souls to be reached across the world with the eternal truth of the Gospel. The mission of the IDT program is based on 2 Timothy 2:2, “You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. A PASSION TO GLORIFY GOD THROUGHOUT THE NATIONS The ultimate reason for missionaries to go to places of risk and be willing to die to make the Gospel known is a deep passion to see God glorified in every nation. To insist that missionaries avoid dangerous places is to belittle the lostness of a world without Christ, to demean the responsibility of obedience to God’s call, and to succumb to a convoluted system of values that says one’s own safety and comfort is a higher priority than sharing the Gospel. The call of every missionary is obedience to God, and while suffering is to be expected, God’s glory is our reward! Why do missionaries go to dangerous places and even risk death? They are compelled by the lostness of people who have yet to hear the hope of the Gospel. They are devoted to the lordship of Christ, the obedience to His call, and the desire to make a difference for eternity. The training will focus on how to do effective evangelism, and specifically how to reach Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, Muslim and Sikh people groups. Grateful for your prayers for each of the residents at the Carpenter's Arms in Leicestershire, UK. This coming Monday, I will have the opportunity to share the Gospel and bring some Bible teaching. The Carpenter’s Arms is a Christian run residential centre for people challenged by addiction, which often results in a breakdown in relationships, homelessness, financial hardship, illness and offending.
