This was supposed to have been ready around Halloween, but moving to an apartment and health stuff happened, so it ended up greatly delayed.

I just noticed the image quality is not fully loading on standard display, but it does look normal when you see one by one. I also noticed I typed "heavy lifting" in two different ways. It's enough now that you get the meaning.

It's a bit on the longer side, but I hope it will be given a chance to be read.

The demons and their vessels + 1 shapeshifter 🪽

Some of you already have seen most of this, but anyways.

First demon/fallen angel is Lucifer. He's going to be red, because why not. Evil red creature is red. You might notice that I applied the vitiligo effect - that's because him being cast out of heaven is supposed to have been brutal and involved a level of struggle that makes him seem almost a chimera of demonic traits and things that speak of when he was an angel.

Said struggle and consequent turbulent emotions and drastic actions are also why his bandages are bloody, but Adder's aren't. It has to do with the ripped wings.

The first human is Valentín, one of people contracted with Lucifer that he occasionally uses as a vessel. That thing on his neck has to do with how fallen angels are able to do possessions. Connie has something similar from Adder, but inside his wrists.

Valentín's contract was a standard gamble for a rich and successful life.

The second demon/fallen angel is Adder. He is very different from Lucifer on the sense that he was not cast out, he left and accepted all the consequences. He's like a younger brother to Lucifer, and they infuriate the fuck out of each other like toxic families would ("YOU WANT TO BECOME DAD, I WANTED TO LEAVE").

Adder is sorts of a name keeper.

The second human/vessel is Connie. His contract was about arranging means for Adder to run the ghost hunting show, and for Connie to deal with his suicidal ideation and desire to not be in control of his body or life.

The last 2 picrews are Tomcat. You see those leathery wings? They have wings because they are a 3rd generation demon. Their mutations allow wings because unlike the ones the fallen angels had, these wings never have and never will mean a certain holy connection with God.

Later demon generations are also usually capable of shape-shifting enough to pass as humans, and as they are purely demonic, unlike fallen angels, they can navigate Earth recklessly without ever needing to rely on vessels

this part focuses on Connie more than Lexi, who are in contracts with Adder, the demon who runs this ghost hunting web series that the public is told is fictional

the public is also told Connie is the special effects director, with a direct hand on the aesthetics and designs of the show, because he has the actual career for it, and as an inside joke about Adder regularly possessing his body to direct the "ghost hunting"

About this fake tweet in particular-

Nellie spent over 90 min fixing the crosses upwards

In her mind, oh, the ghost wants to be "silly"? Let's be silly together, kid! You play with me, I play with you ^-^

She actually found it almost therapeutic once she managed to get lost and automatic on the motions, even though it was harder for her to turn it all one by one than it was for the ghost to turn it all at once

Even when light bulbs started exploding and furniture got slammed around, she kept fixing the crosses

And it's not that she's simply fearless or immune to ghostly attacks - this ghost was a fucking coward and she refused to play into its stupid intimidation tactics

Meanwhile, Lexi, the demon worshipper, witnessed all that with a "whatever way you're fucked in the head, I really like it"

The Hints, but this time with Moodboards ✨

Grim Congregation is a wip about a demon who starts a ghost hunting web show because of God given tasks.

In the wip intro I included vague hints for the episodes of the show, as each episode entails a process of uncovering the ghosts and the demonic pacts involved in the hauntings, before proceeding with the necessary exorcisms.

These moodboards have been made with random pictures from Pinterest. Also, I like how these both add to the hints, but also still don't give away the plots. Some of them (trauma factory and medical malpractice) gravely seem to imply pretty standard execution of tropes too.

Realizing that, to Adder (the fallen angel demon from Grim Congregation), being evilTM is boring and unappealing

He developed skewed morals and a penchant for brutality when it comes to attacks and retaliations, but overall, evilTM is boring and unappealing

So much so that as the exorcisms progress and truths are uncovered, he's like wow ain't the scheming and suffering this all must have taken beyond exhausting

One look at a demon worshipper serial killer who went after kids because his demon patron demanded them as sacrifice, and Adder just. "this is such bullshit, ain't yall got better things to do? Also, by God's name and authority, I'm getting you both a lovely place in hell where His ire still burns the damned"

And the thing of how God is to him both an oppressive father and authoritative boss is kinda humorous kinda tragic; there's history there in the lengths he went through to escape God's "grace" as much as possible, and how he nonetheless cooperates quite willingly with God in the aftermath

Which, whenever God commands demons to do something directly, Adder does not have patience for the the ones that want to stomp their feet and whine about it rather than just getting things done. He even complains to God "I know we have partial free will, but can this partial not cover pity party tantrums over what cannot be changed or stopped and must be done? At least prevent them from whining until after the deed is over - I sure do not allow my grievances to prevent progress"

Which pisses off a lot of demons but they can't do shit because the way God's authority is still continuously acting through Adder makes him stronger

About prop master/Dominique/Jamal, he/they loves their birth name, though during transition he did contemplate what other names he could enjoy enough to go through documentation hassle

Cue Jamal as an alias

Side note, the human "aliases" have nothing to do with any semblance of anonymity, and everything with supernatural hijinks

If a ghost tried to call Jim by his name without having known of him before, they wouldn't call him Jim, they would call him Jiahao in the most unusual perfect pronunciation, because when they reach for a name from the target's soul, they are not gonna catch the aliases

So if a ghost tried to mimick anyone else, it would be immediately outed by name usage

Unless Connie was around while possessed by Adder. Trying to learn and say Adder's true name would straight up obliterate them (cause a fallen angel's true and first name is a holy name whose perfect pronunciation can only be spoken by God, as in, only a fish does what a fish does in the way a fish can, not as a rule; the divine is highly incompatible with the mundane)

Why not just trick the ghosts into saying Adder's true name?

The objective is to send/return the ghosts to hell, not to essentially prevent them from paying their dues

Funny thing. The fake tweets have accidentally established that the longer Milo and Jim know each other, the more Jim will measure how bad things are about to get by how much Milo looks like a wild animal about to fling itself in abandon towards the nearest window for escape

the gang leader Connor was involved with had a contract with a demon and said demon would occasionally come around

shit happens, confrontation starts, and Connor, who never had much faith, goes "wait. if you exist, God exists, and if He exists, you cannot have more power over my life than He does."

and he's filled with such certainty of God's existence that he beats the demon to near a pulp, escapes, denounces and makes known everything surrounding the gang, and then after concluding that part of his life, commits himself to God and the church

I've had the devil as a character in more than one wip along the years, but this is the first time I looked at the fucker and went "you gonna be a chimera of the holy and the damned"
