I can't help but feel Plan B games missed a trick with this one. Century: Golem Edition (left) vs Century: Spice Road (right). The Golem Edition was apparently something designer Emerson Matsuuchi had previewed before the game was picked up by Plan B and rethemed, into the more (dare I say it?) generic spice trading theme. This is the theme they'll be continuing with, but they kindly released the Golem edition as a special release for fans to pick up. The art on Spice Road (David Richards & Fernanda Suárez) is fantastic and suitably thematic, but the Golem Edition (Justin Chan & Chris Quilliams) is just beautiful. Not to mention the gemstones 😍 The gameplay is exactly the same, so it really comes down to theme preference. I'm just honestly very surprised that Plan B have decided to continue with a rather ordinary theme over something more fantastic. Is the fantasy setting perhaps overdone?
